We did it the same as a few brides here, I picked the resort and reserved a date, then i got with my TA and she got us pricing... then we went and paid a $300 deposit which gave us 30 seats for 90 days, I sent out our invites and basically told people they had until the end of January... we are at 29 and now my TA is saying that she will take deposits until they tell her no more! We dont know the exact price, but do have a gaurantee that with the deposit it wont be higher then the quote... and they will give us a one time price reduction! I couldn't imagine trying to get it all organzied in a week that is crazy!

That is an awesome price, man I wish that I was travelling from Ontario, I have family there and our trip is about $300 more from Alberta then theirs is!!! I cannot believe that you have so many people booked that is awesome, we are at 29 to date and we know that there are going to be at least 10 more if not 15 more, and actually that is more than I origianally thought that there were going to be so I wont complain! And you are right about the wedding being cheaper then doing it at home, it is actually unbelievable how much destination weddings save the bride and groom! where are you with your planning? You are getting married around the same time as me? I pretty much havent really done that much I have my dress, the website and I got a few wish lanterns in the mail last week other than that I havent done anything... what about you??? there arent a lot of Cuba brides on this site so it nice to come across one!

I am using Maritime Travel, I have used them for all my travel in the last few years... the lady doing my wedding isnt my normal lady (she had a death in the family and has been out of the office) but we have made it work. and then I contacted the resort directly. I did get quotes from a bunch of the big name agencies and Maritime was still better.

Lauren I am so glad that you got to get out there and found the same dress that is awesome.... I had to order a 16 as well for the exact same reason, and I don't have any hips so don't worry too much about it, those dresses are designed to make brides look like a million dollars! We are getting close to our deadline and we have 22 people booked with 10 more for sure booking and about 10 after that, that are still on the fence and I was worried that we werent going to have anyone book! I still really havent done much more for the wedding I did however get 6 wish lanterns I love them so I am going to order some more they were cheap (they took a few weeks to get here). Could you send me that list of Spanish phrases as well I would love to include them in the package that I am making for my guests to send them before we go, I am doing a brochure that will let them know all the little things about Cuba, and then i think that I really want to do luggage tags if I can find ones for a good price, and I thought that it would be fun to include some spanish phrases, I have some on our website but if you have a good list I would love to see it.

I got a quote from them, yhen when they gave me the rates and wanted a 900 deposit i moved on then 3 of them kept emailing me wanting to know why I chose another TA... They wouldnt take no for an answer and couldnt believe that I got a bettrr rate anywhere else so anoying and I agree a little shady! I would not recommend them either

I hope that you are feeling better, I know that there were some people in my office that were really sick last week and this week, knock on wood I haven't gotten it and I hope that I dont, I dont do sick very well (althoug does anyone). You will have to let me know how things go with your mom and if the dress is still the dress when she sees it... funny how just having one person agree with you makes it that much more "real". As for Christmas I havent even started LOL I am big time wait until the last minute kind of person, why do today what you can put off tomorrow, I was hoping with age that this would get better, but it may actually be getting worse! I plan to do it all in one day next week (maybe) I agree this website is great, there are so many ideas and here I didnt realize how many people actually do a destination wedding! And no problem with the help glad to have someone that knows exactly what it is that we are going through and doing! Have a great Christmas if we dont talk before then!

Lauren Oh that would be awesome to get to have your mom involved I know that my mom is my rock and not sure I could do that sort of stuff without her, I will keep my fingers crossed that you make it home, although you sound a lot like me, and in the case if I want something there really is no holding me back! Yes Jessica's Bridal is on McLeod just north of Chinook. They seriously rocked, I had a picture of the dress that I liked but it wasnt exactly what I wanted and with the picture and my so so discription of how I wanted mine different she pulled 3 dresses and one was the one! It worked our perfectly! I went to a place I can't remember what it was called it was just off Blackfoot, but simallar experience with the I hated everything she pulled I dont think that she got my vision, I am getting married on the beach, but I think that "destination" wedding dresses look like moo moo's so I want a light airy "princess" dress, this woman put me in a 160 pound satin dress with the worlds longest train... dont get me wrong if you were doing a church wedding here at home this dress would be perfect but are you deaf what part of beach wedding didnt you get?? LOL we just laughed about that, and we did Davids Bridal, skip that too it was annoying, they are in the room dressing you and they make you wear this stuff under the dresses, like a hoop skirt that makes the dress look different and you would have to buy this stuff too and they are really expensive, she also didnt get my vision and would only ask what I hated about the dresses not what I liked... oh well I guess all part of the experience. I dont know which provider you TA quoted but I know with our package, Troy and I had to put down a $300 deposit ($150 pp) and that held 30 seats for 90 days at the quoted price, and then once that was done our guests have until 60 days before travel to pay in full! I have actually let this go, I will send out a Facebook reminder when the last day is closer but I can't and won't babysit these people we are all adults!!! PS your price is awesome, sort of makes me wish that we pulled a summer date! Oh well no going back! And I would say get your STD out and then relax for a bit, there isnt much more you can do until people start paying deposits and you have a rough (very rough) idea of how many people you are having!

Lauren I didnt think that I was going to stress about who was coming and who wasnt... sounds corny but I am ok with it just being the two of us! I think the thing that stresses me out is that if you can't come then just tell us that you cant come, dont say oh yeah we are trying to get there to do the deposit, or other variations just do it or dont but let me know either way! LOL as for numbers for planning I think that I am going to wait until the deposit date has come and gone and then I will take that number and add 10 to be on the safe side. I honestly thought that it would be my mom and me going to get the dress but then there wound up being 6 of us! It was actually a fun day! Have you gone back?? Anymore info on resorts and flights? I should be making a list but I am afraid that it will be so long... So I am taking a mini break and will get at it in the New Year (or at least thats what I am telling myself) Sabina, I used mywedding to make our website, good call I forgot that I did it! I also went to Beautifal Bride (appointment) The one dress I loved was about 1000 over my budget (why ask if you arent going to respect it) I also walked in at Blissful Bride the lady there was great! Hi Jolene, Thanks for writing back! My fiance's sister was married in Cuba and they loved it. They had a very intimate wedding which was awesome and the pictures were beautiful. What resort are you getting married at? Have you started looking for a dress yet? I am having a hard time wanting to do that with my mom in Ontario but I know especially with only 8 months to plan I need to start looking soon! I actually have my first appointment tomorrow. So much to look at! We haven't decided if we're going to go with a travel agent yet or not. My family is in Windsor so it's very cheap for them to fly out of Detroit rather than Toronto. My fiance and I both work for WestJet so we are lucky to be able to secure a great deal on flights and vacation packages. I still need to contact our groups department to see what we can do about a block of rooms but so early in the process it's difficult to estimate how many will come. Surprisingly the package price for our guests for August 17th-24th is $1375 from Toronto and $1475 from Calgary! Lol - it's not often we have a better price than Sunwing so I am hoping the deposit goes through quickly so that we can jump on it! Good luck with your planning! Lauren We are getting married at the Iberostar Varadero on November 18, 2013 we are currently scheduled to leave here on the 14th so that part for now is out of the way, and as for the dress yes I just bought one last Friday, and it should be in at the end of April, so that too is out of the way, as for wedding party choices and other smaller details I have no idea LOL I just cant figure out exactly what I want, our colours are pink and orange, but I thought that the entire party in ivory would look pretty cool considering that we are getting married on the beach, but I keep going back and forth! Currently my biggest stress is waiting for people to pay their deposits... we sent out invites and people have until January 15 to pay the deposits, I guess I figured that people would be excited and get it done right away, I guess that was wishful thinking just us and my best friend have paid deposits so far, I know there is still time but waiting is a little stressful! I would love to work for Westjet, I love, love, love travelling. And you are right, I dont think that I have ever seen a Westjet package cheaper than Sunwing I will keep my fingers crossed that it works out for you! my only advise would be to pick a resort and make sure that they have space for the package dates... I check this site out daily so for sure we can use each other for ideas, it is nice to talk to someone in the same city for sure!

HI, I am also from Calgary we are getting married in November 2013 in Cuba, I used a travel agent who is wonderful fast to respond and just had her own destination wedding in April so she has lots of knowledge of questions I should be asking the resort and other tips to keep me less stress LOL and we got hotel and flight package $1493 for a five star in Cuba. There is white sand but the aren't really known for their food but it is an awesome place to visit, I also have family travilling from Ontario and their packages are less then $1300 and it is only a 2 1/2 hour flight for them. I think you are on the right track, once I figured out the country I wanted to travel too I picked 3 resorts that I liked and then went to my travel agent, I wanted to stay under 1500 and wanted to give my guests a year to pay for it. let me know if you have any other questions, and good luck.

Oh I have the same timeline sent invites about 2 weeks ago and have a deadline of January 15, 2013. I have had two people book... I really didn't want to stress this at all but it is already freaking me out a little bit, but I kind of feel the same way as you, if htey havent booked by then I will take it as a no, I am just surprised becuase of how many people were so excited when we first started talking about it and now crickets! Oh well it is what it is I guess but I can't help stressing a little.

Oh that is so me... but my bridesmaids are all abot me having the bridal experience it is actually pretty funny they made me go to the bridal show and then once we were there they realized that nothing there applied to me so maybe they will chill a little!

jonasniki, that is awesome that you are done and ready so far before you go... this is really what I want I dont want to be totally stressed and over thinking I just want to be able to relax and enjoy the time before we go! This is why I wanted to have a destination wedding! did you di a lot of DIY things for your wedding? Are you bringing a lot of decor and such with you???

Wow you must be getting so excited.... just take a deep breath everything will work out perfectly! I sent out invitations last weekend and am just starting to here that people are getting them, and I bought my dress on Friday so things are coming along slowly but surely I keep saying that I have so much time... a year yesterday until the actual wedding so I am just taking it all in and trying to enjoy the planning!
