We are getting married at 5 and are going to do our pics beforehand. I know there is a lot of romance associated with seeing each other for the first time at the aisle, but there are alternatives to ensure that you still get that special moment. My FI and I are going to get together before we see everyone else for a "First Look." It will be a private moment where we can speak our feelings, exchange our gifts, and have our special moment in private. We may even have our photographer there to capture the moment. After that, we can take all of our pics and start off the events at 5 pm and move smoothly from one event to the next without the interruption of photos. Just an option :-) Google "First look beach weddings," here are some of my faves!: http://www.christinechangphotoblog.com/2011/09/laguna-beach-wedding-photography-first-look-chandra-tony/ http://www.google.com/imgres?start=100&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=2oW&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1280&bih=661&tbm=isch&prmd=imvns&tbnid=1t3dT4ymqUgvfM:&imgrefurl=http://www.heartloveweddings.com/2012/03/purple-destination-beach-wedding-from-weber-photography-by-wes-liz/&docid=yE4D2FvZcv7jsM&imgurl=http://www.heartloveweddings.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/TM-RW-Weber-Photography-by-Wes-%252B-Liz-6.7.png&w=600&h=400&ei=vHAyUOL4AYyD0QGZ7gE&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=177&vpy=209&dur=2757&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=121&ty=111&sig=114678053582448427872&page=6&tbnh=141&tbnw=188&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:100,i:87 http://www.heartloveweddings.com/2012/03/romantic-red-white-christmas-beach-wedding-from-luminaire-foto-2/

Hang in there! When my fiance and I announced to his family that we would be having our wedding in the Caribbean, his parents showed a great deal of disappointment. They made comments like, "do you think anyone will actually go?" and "it's just SOOO far!" and "that seems like a lot to ask of your guests." It didn't feel very good to hear these things since I was so excited. I may have even shed a tear or two. BUT, since the plan has been in motion for about 3-4 months now, they are really starting to come around and become part of the excitement! His mom called me the other day to tell me that her dental hygienist's daughter got married at ME, and it was the most beautiful resort she's ever seen and that the wedding was amazing and everyone there had the best time ever! Thank goodness!!! :-) Parents can be traditional and sometimes need a little time to marinate on an idea!

Thank you so much! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for!!! -
Hi There! We decided to get the house DJ. I read great reviews about him, that he kept everyone dancing the whole time and that it was a blast! Our reception will be at the Wet Bar Terrace, so I think it will be a very beautiful spot for some dancing. I believe it is only about 3 hours, so the cost for the DJ was $600. We're doing the "free" See and Sea dinner, so we felt like we could splurge a little for the music! :-) Good luck!

Welcome! I just confirmed my date this week for May 13th at 5 pm. We are estimating about 70 guests. We are going to have a civil ceremony on the beach, and then dinner at the Sea and See, and then a private party/reception at the Wet Bar Terrace! The dinner will not be private, but a nice sit down dinner basically for free is unbeatable! We just ordered our magnetic "Save the Date" cards last night. They are SOOOO cute! I encourage everyone to check out www.magnetstreet.com . I am SOOOOOOO excited!!!

Hey Lucky, it is REALLY difficult trying to nail down a time and date. There were NO Saturdays available for me from the end of April through until June. Then I asked for Fridays, and I got the same response; only one time slot per day, and most of them were at very inconvenient times (like 10 am! I would have to get up at 6 am to get ready in time and then everyone would be plastered before dinner!) Negotiating different times didn't help at all. If you want a later time, you may have to have it on a different date, unfortunately. This is one of the most popular places to get married in the DR, so that's why they are so booked up. On the other hand, 12 isn't so bad, maybe you could schedule a late lunch for everyone right after the ceremony, and try to stall it out so that people don't wander off and get into trouble ;-)

I ended up totally freaking out last night about the date being on the same weekend as Memorial Day, so I just got it changed. I can now say with confidence that the ceremony will be at 5:00 pm on May 13, 2013! I'm so excited! Monday actually ends up to be a great day to have it because those only staying for 3 nights could fly in Saturday and leave Tuesday. Matt and I can arrive on Friday, get everything situated, and then get Married on Monday, and then chill for the rest of the week until we leave on Saturday or Sunday. :-) All of our guests will have flexibility for their travel times too. I told them that I would be open to either ceremony type, so I'm currently down for a "symbolic," but the WC is going to see if she can get the Judge to schedule me in. Either way, the stress is off!!! Time to start making Save-the-Dates!!!! :-)

I like the Ipod idea too!!! Since we're picking all the songs anyway, we could just get it super organized, and not worry about the DJ!!! Great idea to include song requests in the RSVP too, and since the sound system comes with a microphone, we would still be able to announce the events (wedding party intro, toasts, dances, etc.) I'm sure we have a friend or two who would be more than willing to "MC." P.S. We LOVE Dance Parties!!! :-) OH, almost forgot! We got our confirmation certificate for May 24, 2013 at the beach at 3 pm! I'm a little nervous that it's Memorial Day weekend, hopefully the flight prices won't be terrible, and hopefully people won't be disappointed to come to our wedding instead of being with their families. The way that I look at it is that it is an extra day they won't have to take off from work! :-) Today is our "Pre-Versary!!!" LOL!

OK, the communique is HOT with them right now! They are offering Friday May 24th at 3pm -civil ceremony. Still waiting to hear back on if the restaurant (I would be fine with either) and the terrace are available for then. We want a Beach ceremony, then dinner at one of those restaurants (Asadito or Sea and See) and then the open bar reception on one of the Terraces. I REALLY wanted Saturday May 4th, but they do not appear to be able to facilitate that. :-( SO, could be a year from today! We'll see... :-) I don't think we are going to have the at-home reception. I just moved to PA 2 years ago and don't have any family here, so it wouldn't help out my fam at all to have one. Matt's brother got married in Mexico and had an at-home reception later, and everyone said it turned out GREAT!!! He and his wife grew up locally though :-)
