  1. Hi Stephshaw26, have you been on the big Barcelo topic forum, its got tons of recent information in case you haven't been there you should definitely check it out, I think it may be called the Barcelo Palace but it is all in regards to the Barcelo and the packages there! We had our reception on the beach start at 5:30 as well and this is what we did: Extended the reception by 3 hours (two initially and then when it was just 15 minutes left we extended it another hour because it was so much fun). The cost to extend the reception is $12 per person (drinking alcohol) per hour. Our reception went in this order - first dance, then speeches and then dinner - The speeches and dinner could take up a good portion of your 3 hours, so perhaps consider extending your reception if even by just a little bit if you think your guests are going to be giving long speeches. We had two people under 18 (one 4 and one 15) so they obviously couldn't come to the disco but anyone who wanted to continue to party carried on to the disco as it was finally open when our beach reception was done. I would say only about half the guests went to the disco, anyway, the rest of them were pooped/had drank too much already and went home to bed.
  2. I can't remember what the exact time line for purchasing my dress and then getting it was....I think I chose the design and started the whole process in April or so and then I got the dress in about August. I could be mistaken though. I do know that my dress was earlier than they thought it would be, as I messaged her to ask if she had an idea of the arrival of it and she said it had just come in that week. I didn't get my veil from NoviaMia, I got it from BellaBridalVeils on Etsy, it was a fingertip length and had crystals scattered throughout it..wonderful seller to work with and the veil was awesome and only cost $53 (including shipping). I did get my sash/belt from NoviaMia though.
  3. I made a BRIDE bling white zip up hoodie and wore that down with lulu lemon pants (nothing fancy, when I fly I like to be comfy) and for outfits for evenings and dinners I totally spoiled myself and had collected little dresses in the months before the wedding and never wore any of them so I had a new dress to wear every night of my trip!
  4. I have almost 2000 pictures...these are just a few of my favourites showing our happiness on that fabulous day! A special moment caught on camera (this was not staged) Our gift exchange: So caught up in us we didn't even notice the camera set up right behind our heads LOL!
  5. Thanks! I still want to wear it! lol! I was SUPER satisfied with it! It was a personalized dress, top of one and bottom of another, measurements were taken and sent away and voila my dress was amazing!!
  6. Its gonna be amazing, I am sure! ) When do you get your dress?
  7. Menu options depend on the package you are looking at, the Mint Breeze package has different options than the Strawberry Passion. I can send you the menu options for the Strawberry Package if you want them, just toss me a private message ) I can't comment on the DJ because we went the iPod route, many people on here probably have recommendations for dj's in the mexico area. I have heard that you must pay per hour for the dj to use the resort's power and that can get pricey, or have the dj bring a generator. For tables, we were outdoors but we had an option for round or square tables and Victoria said how many they could fit up to and I chose to have 6 at each table. While we were there we saw many different table set ups for different weddings outdoors, I think there are likely many options! I don't know for sure what packaged they would have had but we had the strawberry passion package and the base price for it was something like $3350 (that was 2012 pricing and included 3 hours with 15 people, extra people were $66 per person for dinner and $12 an hour per person more than 15 people for anything more than 3 hours).
  8. I know for sure it works with an iPod nano as that is what we used, but not the new ones with the small little charger. I have previously read that iPhones don't work but we didn't try.
  9. At coral beach there are no chances of having a fat man in a speedo in your pictures! Lol! It's up on some rocks and has beautiful trees/shrubs in the background, it is hard to explain but basically doesn't have direct access into the water but the water is in the background. Playa Azul is a big flat beach area, beautiful still, but different, more space for people to watch or swim in the water behind the ceremony. Good luck choosing!
  10. Great advice!! I did the same thing, they answer quick with straightforward answers.
  11. I am also from Calgary!! Yay for the Canadian brides at Barcelo! I'd say weddings are different from day to day there due to weather, on our wedding we had not a breeze of wind, it was perfect...though some people may think differently because its hotter when there is no wind. Our food wasn't cold either. I wouldn't change a minute of being outside for our reception! Also on a side note...the price per hour is based on how many guests you have, it is $12 per person per hour extra. We actually paid for two extra hours and our guests were having so much fun we extended it for a 3rd hour and then continued on to the disco even!!
  12. Hi Lori, Have you been to Mexico before? I have been many places and the Barcelo is awesome! The beach is huge and has something for everyone! I've never been to a resort I could snorkel at and even see sea turtles!! There are rocky areas but also sandy areas. As for the color of the water, that changes from day to day no matter where you are in Mexico. It was clear and blue and amazing for everyday of our 14 days there except for the last day some sea weed washed in and it was really choppy and so it looks brown in areas as the sand is churning up. The color of the water depends on weather and sea weed etc, and it's been that way at all resorts and condos I've stayed at in the Mayan, including Tulum ruins which appear to have the most amazing beaches but when I visited there it was murky and dark brown.
  13. I know this might not be what you want to hear but the wedding coordinators are VERY BUSY ladies! I was told they do approx 160 weddings a month there! I can say I had Victoria and she was SO amazing and fantastic! My recommendation would be to be patient and nice to them and plan what you can from home on your own and through what you know from here. What is it you are needing from them? Perhaps people like me who have recently been there for weddings could help out! We chose our ceremony location and hadn't chosen a location for our reception and found out we were placed at Coral Beach, as they place groups where appropriate according to size. As far as I think, lots can be planned without the planners. They will ask you about menu choices, centrepieces and flowers, then music (dj or iPod) and other things. Most of these things can and will be planned and/or finalized when you are at the resort. I know that to us as brides it is extremely rush rush rush but they have timelines they follow and if the wedding is too far out they don't start the planning for the most part until very close to the event. Im unsure of where everyone is at in their planning process but they require you to have booked your travel and have a confirmation # before they start planning...could you imagine if they started doing planning for any person who messaged them?! Eek it would be messy!
  14. The trees we didnt pay but maybe its because the trees are wrapped at a couple of the locations already. I had heard previously it was $5 per tree and was ready to pay that. Maybe it depends on the package you have too...? Not 100% sure.
  15. I can't give advice for the cocktail hour as we didn't have one, our guests went and drank at the Coco pool bar between our ceremony at 3 and reception at 5:30. As for the palapa, it's gone, there's nothing there just a huge sandy beach. If you like the trees wrapped with lights (they were a must for me) there are no trees down at Playa Azul, they will still have large spotlights and such, you won't be in the dark, but the tree lights are much more subtle and romantic feeling than a large bright spotlight.
  16. I had better luck contacting the coordinator myself than my travel agent did. Who is your coordinator? We actually ended up changing our wedding date after invites were sent out because we wanted to send them early enough to give lots of notice but flights hadn't been announced yet, so once they were announced we moved our wedding day back a day and sent everyone a message and updated our wedding site. It wasn't ideal or perfect but it was what we had to do!
  17. So much with this planning and wedding stuff is very personal, i had my makeup done at the spa, as well as my hair and I can assure you i didnt look like a drag queen for my wedding, my hair and makeup was a total success at the spa, as was my girls' hair styles. Adrians work is also great, just depends on where you prefer to spend $ and what kind of work you want done on makeup... airbrushing wasnt necessary for me. I have pics posted on BDW on many different forums. For meals I have heard you cannot upgrade anything from package to package, you just have to change packages.
  18. Julie 1025, I think that the reception outside is fabulous, I didn't fly all the way to Mexico to sit in a banquet hall and pay for a reception indoors! I was in tears when we were asked if we wanted to be put inside because it might might rain, i refused to be put inside until it started to rain! LOL! But it is all personal preference, as you can see the review above, that person was very disappointed with the strawberry package and being outside. Every person at our wedding was happy to be outside, the food wasn't cold or anything, no sand was flying or anything, dancing in the sand was so much fun, everything was FABULOUS!! We were satisfied with every penny we paid for the strawberry package, but it is a budget thing as well, because if your budget doesn't allow space for you to step up packages then it doesn't. The menu choices are also a little more extravagant with the strawberry, i think, with options such as surf and turf. In my opinion $60 per person over 15 people isn't bad for a 4 course meal that is privately served on a beach, with surf and turf as your entree! Where else can you get that kind of dinner for that price?! Happy planning! Feel free to ask any questions, it's all still fresh in my memory from our Nov 28 wedding!
