  1. Did you already have your wedding? If not I would highly recommend you do the cleaning at your resort! I did mine there and it was 113 pesos or approximately $11 canadian! They did an amazing job! Otherwise I don't know about places in Calgary, my recommendation would be to call around and ask for prices everywhere and unless it's got sand ALL over dont tell them you trashed it (if you did) because prior to leaving I asked a couple places for prices and they said 'well are you doing a trash the dress' it was like they were going to give me an alternate price if I said yes..?!
  2. We wanted to save money where we could as well and our group had no issue with just hanging out together at a bar having drinks. We told them where to meet us in the end for the reception and they ended up hanging out as a group at the pool bar nearby. Everyone had eaten breakfast and lunch so no one complained about us not having cocktails, plus dinner was so large everyone was full soon enough.
  3. Hey MrsShoreytobe! I was married at the Barcelo, most of our guests stayed at the Tropical and a few stayed at the Palace where we did, we loved this option to stay at different priced resorts. What I found when looking at packages and resorts was that Barcelos packages are a little bit more money but the cost for a trip there was much cheaper than say something like the Now resorts or other beautiful resorts. Our guests paid $1483 (tropical) and $1719 for the palace for a week, prices at other resorts were over $1800-$2500 per person. These more expensive resorts seemed to have wedding packages that were much cheaper. My hubby and I chose to pay more for our package and let people have to pay less for their trips. We figured that we wanted more people to join us instead of people not coming because the price was too high and as it was our wedding we would pay the cost associated with the wedding package and dinner, etc. we would have had to pay for our reception in Calgary anyways. We had to pay $64 or so per person over the 15 people included in the Strawbery package. I went with that package because of the outdoor reception and it was AMAZING and I think worth every penny. I refused to be put in a banquet hall even when it threatened rain, lol! I know it may sound like a lot of money for a meal but I didn't think $64 per person was bad for a private dinner on the beach that included surf and turf (that was what we chose for our entree) This was what we went with but I know other brides have gone with other packages and done adjustments to them. The good options are also different for the different packages as well. I have the strawberry menu options if you want to see them. Let me know if you want more info on anything else!
  4. I believe that the menu is set for the package you pay for but if you can upgrade to a beach reception I don't know if you get a different menu with that. I would say the walk is likely much less than 10 minutes, if you are up along the front walkway where the beach is, from the far back rooms it may be a bit of a walk but entirely do-able. I guess it depends on ages of guests and health. I seem to be opposite of everyone on here as I didn't want my reception at Playa Azul because it was so far away from the Palace and I didn't care to have myself or my guests bussed around.
  5. Thanks! i love to help out, just celebrated lur 6 month marriage anniversary, time is flying by but it still feels like we were married yesterday! I was concerned about it, ALL of our wedding stuff went on the plane with us in carry ons. My hubby and I each had one plus our outfits and my brother carried one for us as well. It was like Jenga packing everything lol! I bought bubble wrap at Walmart and wrapped each one individually and they were all safe! Check with your resort, as well, as I have heard resorts will sometimes rent vases to people for $5 a piece or so. We were married at the Barcelo and I found out that they rented vases but we decided to just go with our own from home. The vases we bought were $2.99 each at ikea.
  6. I think it was somewhere around $12 per person for the extra hour and they made sure they didn't count the kids in ours either. I think it was DEFINITELY worth paying for, we actually ended up extending by 3 hours!
  7. Kissta, I saw your comment on my picture, the purple vase in the background was my centre piece, the teal bottle in the front of the picture was our bottle we put out for people to sign our guestbook, it was a message in a bottle theme. We took everything with us. For the centrepieces it was a glass vase with purple cellophane scrunched inside it, filled with water and then the top was a chiffon flower (handmade by me off a tutorial online) with a purple LED light hot glued to the bottom of the flower and when turned on it casted a purple glow into the vase! I originally tried to do fake flowers with the light on them but I liked the chiffon ones too much so I went with them! **If you want a vase with the look of pebbles or something in it this cellophane was the way to go when travelling! No one had a clue what was in the vases (it appeared to be broken glass) and they all complimented me on them!
  8. We have been to the Mayan Riviera every year for three years at the end of Nov/beginning of December and part of the reason we continue to go is because the weather is great! Not sure where you are from but I'm guessing its in Canada? The temperatures for our wedding trip were in the high 20's daily, it was cloudy and rained the evening before our wedding (yup I almost had a heart attack lol) but for the entire two weeks that was only one of two times it rained. I never wear pants there and haven't needed a jacket or sweater when I'm there. To me it is warm (anything is warmer than Calgary lol) but yes, it is a teeny bit cooler in the evenings, although it's a nice break from the hot daytime temps!
  9. What a crazy coincidence!!! Our colours were not necessarily peacock themed intentionally but they were teal and purple!! Totally Crazy!! Just to show you how we incorporated the colours... (I love sharing because I did a ton of DIY stuff and was so proud of it all) Here were my shoes: Our entire party: (my girls' dresses were Henkaa convertible dresses) Cheers!! Happy Planning!
  10. My hubby wore grey suit pants, a while dress shirt and a grey suit vest. His guys wore grey pants and purple dress shirts. We bought everything at Le Chateau! I don't know if they do linen stuff but for suiting they have lots! I have attached a pic of them in their stuff.
  11. The package included my hair and makeup at the Barcelo spa and I used it for my wedding day and had not a single issue. They did my hair, my bridesmaid and maid of honour as well as my flower girl and her mom and all the hair styles were amazing! My makeup was just what I asked for, they use all Mac makeup too!
  12. I sure would in a heartbeat! My dress was heavy with ruffles on the bottom and a full on non-destination wedding dress and I LOVED every moment in it!
  13. Is it your reception or ceremony there? We had our reception there as if there's rain the back up is the smaller palapas near the pool and not a banquet room. It was threatening rain on our wedding day and I was so sad that they wanted to move us to a banquet hall when I paid for a beach reception (the back up for coral beach is a hall). The area was beautiful for our reception and SO close to our rooms so it was really really nice. No wind or anything there either! I walked down to Playa Azul and it was SO far, I would chose the Palace beach over it anyway. Like someone else commented the beaches are secluded at night, people that walk by done disturb you and you cnt even see them anyways. We danced closest to the water, furthest from the pathway, and we couldn't even tell there were people near if there were.
  14. They don't want you importing things to sell so you have to make sure the value of your goods is not above a certain amount...I can't recall the amount though. We had some michaels receipts, dollar store ones etc, nothing major and they didn't ask to see them. They did ask me how many people were bringing wedding supplies, it was my husband, myself and my brother and sister in law and they asked the value and I said under $200 and they just said go ahead. No huge issues. I guess it may depend on what you are taking and quantities. I don't think you need to have a recipt to account for every single thing, more so prove that you aren't carrying thousands of dollars of stuff in.
  15. Hopefully RNtoBe is still on here and can give it to you, I can't find her business card anywhere! You could also call Novia Mia Bridal and ask them for the information, they gave me the referral to Carmen.
  16. We did We did the iPod and made our own playlists, ill attach them here. The sound system they have is incredible, massive speakers and we controlled the volume, it was perfect! we put only the two playlists on the ipod and that was it, dinner and then dance, this way even if someone wanted to look for music or change the song it didnt matter, it was all our music. we had no issue with anyone doing this anyway, just one rather intoxicated older guest who was at one time 'looking for 50's music' lol, we said no there wasnt any! We considered the dance floor but after considering cost and asking around on here about people's opinion on it we went with dancing on the sand as everyone had said such great things about it! Some people kicked off their shoes, some didn't, but all had an amazing time. They completely rake and made sure the sand is soft with no rocks or anything. Here are our playlists:
