From the album: Barcelo Maya Palace Brides

We had just 22 people including us, yes some of the planning feels sort of silly if it can all be done the days before the wedding but I think it helps them plan a little, changes are easy to make though if you want. On the coco beach we had lights on trees and it was beautiful too! It is just a minute or two walk from the Coral Beach. And the back up for there is the palapa where the ping pong tables are. Playa Azul for me was too far and wide open with no trees to light up, which I really wanted. The seating arrangements are super easy for them to set up and change, it's honestly no big deal! You should definitely ask about where your ceremony and reception locations are, they never have me a choice and had placed me at Coral (which I was pleased with anyway) but if you have a preference you should ask as they may be planning several weddings on your date. There were apparently 4 occurring on our wedding day! We never saw anyone else married that day though.

Our reception was supposed to be on Coral Beach initially but the back up for this is in the banquet hall. Coral beach is the complete opposite of the Playa Azul location. Coral is in front of the palace, sort of up above the water a bit, beautifully lit up and great for smaller groups. If it wasn't for the banquet hall being our back up we would have stayed there. It threatened rain on our wedding day so we moved to Coco beach, this is the beach right in front of the coco bar (beach bar by the palace pool) and it was a great location. These two are closest to the palace resort. Playa Azul is the absolute furthest end from the Palace, in front of the Beach/Caribe resorts. It is past the little activities rental area on the beach. I had heard it was windier down there as well. There used to be a palapa there but it is no longer up. I am not sure what the other location was called but I saw a few receptions there while we were there and it was in front of the grill at the tropical. All the locations are gorgeous and I believe they give options but also place you based on the size of your group. Happy planning!

No worries, I'm glad I can help! I got so much help here prior to my wedding so I am happy to return the favor! If Ivan works with a videographer why can't you just book one room? I had to book two because our photographer and videographer weren't together and both had assistants. Just curious if you could book one room for them...they don't have to actually sleep there or anything, that's their choice! Is your TTD the day after the wedding or the day after the day after?

That That is absolutely crazy! If I were you ladies I would be asking the photographer if you guys could go elsewhere to do the photo shoot, or ask them what their take on the fees are and what other brides have done. It's so frustrating that their photographers are awful so we have to pay the price! It's also crazy you have to book 3 nights...isnt that my for just peak season bookings? My wedding was Nov 28 and we were allowed 2 nights booked, even November is more peak season in Mexico than July/August

The outside vendor fee is just for the wedding day because you aren't using their photographers, that's the way I interpreted it anyway. We did our TTD the next morning after being up til after 1am partying, haha! My makeup was still on so I touched it up, I re-did some curls in my hair and we were off to meet the photographer at 10am! Another option is to ask your photographer where he/she wants to do the TTD, if they are from Mexico perhaps they'll take you somewhere else to do it, maybe a more private beach area or cenote depending on what kind you are doing. we did ours at a cenote across the highway from the Barcelo, our photographer picked us up at the front lobby and drove us there. I am always happy to hear you are doing a TTD, they are such a blast, I loved ours and the pics that came out from it!! Cheers!

No worries!! I'm happy to help out in any way I can! The cost used to be listed under extra services (left hand side before you click on packages) but that fee isn't up anymore. For 2012 it was also $65 per person over 15. We had 22 and felt that $65 for a full private surf and turf dinne on the beach with 3 hours of drinking was well worth $65! The other main extra charges we incurred were for extended the reception, the cost is on the extras, it's $12 per adult to drink to extend the reception, which again wasn't something we thought was overcharged. We extended 3 hours and after that STILL went to the disco! We had 22 and after being on here and hearing sizes of some people's parties we wondered how much of a "party" we'd have with just 22 people but it was an awesome time and it was a great amount of guests for us! Happy Planning everyone!

That's our cake, it's not a fabulous pic of the actual cake but you can see how the icing was done. We didn't request anything be done except put our topper on and that's what turned out. We had 22 guests and not a single person had cake, they LOVED the dessert and were stuffed from dinner! We asked the coordinator if the cake could be put in the kitchen and brought to our room the next day, they asked a specific time to send it and we said 2pm. They sent it on a tray all set with small plates and everything. We later ate some with the group when we all met up in the lobby bar one evening. But even then it wasn't all gone so we kept it in the fridge in our room and had delicious cake for the remainder of our stay! Here is a second picture as well, it's less close up and you can see the size better.

We had a photographer and videographer and were going to have to pay two $500 fees so we got rooms at the beach for them and they both used the rooms we purchased them. The photographer definitely made sense for him as we had a TTD the next morning too! I am not sure how it would work for your photographer if they didn't use the room and someone else did my guess is you'd have to buy them day passes or else they couldn't be on the property for the wedding. When they use the room they are given all inclusive bracelets. If you went the day pass route while also purchasing a room for two nights you are looking at aprroximately $500 cost as the room may only be $300 but each day pass is $95 or $97 and photographers often come with an assistant.

Our coordinator said that our non palace people could not drink at the palace between our ceremony at 3:00 and reception at 5:30 but then the day of the wedding she said our guests could drink at the pool bar at the palace at not cost to us. There were different deals like that put forward by different resorts and flight companies when we booked, make sure you get the full details from your travel agent on what you get from her. Sometimes it's the resort and sometimes it's the flight company that puts on the deal. Most of our guests stayed at the colonial and we had absolutely no issues hanging out with them all the time. We typically laid on the beach closer to the colonial and had no issue with that, if we stayed at the palace then the non palace guests would have to go to their pool bar to get drinks and as far as us palace guests went we didn't mind getting drinks at the pool bar, it made no difference to us. I think you can still get married at playa Azul Beach there's just no palapa there, it is the beach furthest from the Palace, we were never interested in that beach for our ceremony or reception as it wasn't that spectacular to us. As far as the gazebo goes, I fell in love with it and HAD to get married there in it! No one stood around watching our wedding, they aren't seen in any of our pictures anyways, and in our video you can see people walk by but that's it. I know everyone says you'll never notice people looking and honestly you will not! People also move alone too! And don't be mistaken , people will also stand nearby or walk by on the beach too! I watched a speedo clad old man walk in front of someone's wedding ceremony on the beach twice! What a jerk!

Hi there! I bought some fake eyelashes at shoppers drug mart (Walmart also sells them), I think the brand was called Adele. I got the most natural looking ones I could find, not too long and not too thick of ones. They used the glue they had at the salon, just a clear glue and it worked so well I peeled the eyelashes off the next day AFTER our underwater trash the dress session!

Most of our guests stayed at the Colonial/Tropical for our wedding. For the day of the wedding there is no fee as they are a part of your wedding group. For the rest of the trip they would have to use the facilities on their properties as the beach bar at the Palace won't serve them, and for the A la Carte's they can attend dinner with you but there's a $15 charge...when we went with two non palace guests they didn't end up charging them anything for dinner so we left the waiter a large tip we typically laid on the beach towards the colonial tropical because the entrance into the water was not so rocky and then everyone had access to drinks at the bar that was at the pool. If you have SUPER picky drinkers tell them to make sure they ask for the brand of drink they want and show their wrist band from the palace to get premium drinks, they should have no issue. We also liked the open air grill at the colonial/tropical area for lunch, it was close to the beach and quick to drop down and eat at.
