  1. Well we decided to give our hand a try with DIY and tried for invites! I say WE because my dear fiance put in just as much effort as I did and even with the frustrations that went along with them we had such a great time making them together! I think they turned out pretty darn good! Just a couple notes: - We used the Aylee Bits template to get us started - it was SOOO helpful!!! - On the far right side above the box with our wedding date in it we personalized each invite with individual names - And don't mind the bottom of the invite where it says "Friday November Twenty Ninth...." we discovered this error after putting together our very last invite! We went and re-printed them and did everything over again, OOPS!! lol!
  2. I am wondering, what is everyone's take on the dancefloor rental, we were planning on using our ipod for music and saving money on the DJ and my FI just realized we would be dancing on the sand and is sorta thinking he wants a dancefloor. Has anyone rented the dancefloor....did you get the regular or light up one? What did you think? Thanks!
  3. Oh we are right in the midst of this battle! We thought giving people the option to stay at whichever resort they wanted would be perfect so we got prices for both the Colonial and the Palace and have told people to choose as they please, pay more or less, its up to them! Well feedback has been "its not FAIR" lol amongst other things, as well as some people thinking that the option is great! We haven't restricted anyone to staying at one or the other, though. Any which way you put it to guests ALL resorts have the upgrade section whether its called "gold," "premium club, "platinum," "vip" etc, there is always an option to upgrade to a more exclusive section. We are discovering there is no way to make people happy so we are just giving them options and then they can't really complain about anything. There is some different feedback on this forum regarding how guests from the beach/caribe and colonial/tropical are served and such while at the palace for the wedding events, maybe some of the other Brides can speak to this, as for us, we heard the same as you and that the guests can use the bar or restaurant for your reception time but must leave afterwards. Good Luck!
  4. Good Luck Cantstopsmiling! Glad I could help! Oh and one more piece of advice - edit edit edit! We printed ALL of ours, cut them all out and prepared them, right down to tying the very last one with raffia when my FI noticed the day of the week was wrong, we had changed all the info on it when our date changed but somehow missed the date of the week so we had Friday November 29th, 2012....the 29th is NOT a friday! OOPS! HAHA now, but I was so upset then, we had to start over printing and cutting and everything! lol!
  5. I too am searching for purple shoes!! Although I am in Calgary and there are tons of shoe stores I am not having any luck finding anything great that I really love. Perhaps waiting till summer would be best for me, but I am definetely going to check out that Bridal shoes Canada site ! I always shy away from ordering shoes online since the shipping to send them back is never really worth it, but this sounds perfect!!
  6. I am definetely not a pro, haha, but from starting out the DIY project of boarding passes and finding what worked for ours I do have some little hints and pieces of knowledge I can share. I can't speak for the envelopes as we also are having people RSVP on our site Raffia only was sold in a bag for about $5 (Canadian) at a craft store here so we just bought it and I'm sure we won't use it all but it wasn't a huge expense either. I am not sure how much was in it exactly, we are planning on using a couple strings on each invite. **Just a side note on tying raffia on invites, I heard from another bride on here how she had fat bows on her invites and they made her envelope puff up and the postage person automatically tried to charge her more so she pressed them down and the envelopes were more flat and they didn't question it as a regular piece of mail being sent, kind of funny and random so something to think about if you are sending out a bunch of invites and postage costs matter to you. And I second the two sided tape dispenser thing, we used it for our boarding pass sleeves and to put our monogram on as well, its awesome. There are lots of kinds to choose from too - tape dots, solid tape lines, extra strong, etc! Oh and another couple things I would suggest to make life easier would be: - if you are making sleeves for your boarding passes finding something to score your cardstock if it isn't already as it does not fold well without a score line! There is a tool sold at craft stores but its rather pricey for what it is and how long we needed it for, so we used a dull knife type thing on the non-sharp edge - a craft paper cutting board is also helpful with the straight edge ruler and the cutter making lots of parts of the passes easier, our stuff would have been terribly crooked with us just using scissors. - a corner cutter if you want rounded corners on the boarding passes
  7. Thanks ladies! Sometimes it feels like there are things I just have no clue about when it comes to wedding planning! Lol! I am sure whatever we do for music will work out just perfectly! oh and Forever by Ben Harper - I fogot about that song, but I love it!!!
  8. Hey Angela2013, try out Paper-Garden.ca they are a Canadian Company and I ordered our paper from them and was very very pleased! We bought Curious Metallics cardstock paper in Shimmer Deep Purple and made our boarding pass sleeves out if it, and it is PERFECT!!! Their swatch doesn't do it justice on their site but if you check this link I posted below and click to enlarge the sample it is exactly as it looks in person (at least on my computer screen) http://www.monstermarketplace.com/cardstock-paper-and-envelopes/curious-metallic-violette-111-cardstock-12x12-25-sheets Message me if you have any questions, I am also a fellow Canadian and had a hard time finding the perfect paper until I found Paper-Garden.ca
  9. I just received our paper order from Paper-garden.ca and we love the paper! They even sent a few samples, including an envelope (makes me wish I bought them too, lol), as well as a thank you card and a business card - all were essentially samples of what you could buy and had the info for what paper they were. Our parcel arrived very well packaged, double bubble wrapped and in a box so it was practically indestructible, and the package arrived in 6 business days. My suggestion if you would like a better example of the colour of the paper is to google the company and name of the paper and you will find many different pictures, we did this and changed our mind on what colour we ordered based on the other pictures we saw and the colour we changed to was PERFECT!!
  10. We just received our paper from Paper-Garden.ca and it is PERFECT! I thought they had great prices and shipping was quick, 6 business days! They even sent out a sample envelope and a business card with our package with info on what paper products they were, what a great Idea I thought that was...now I am wishing we bought envelopes too! LOL! I was a little worried, as we live in a condo building, that the mailman would shove it in our mailbox but it was so well packaged in a small box and then double bubble wrapped that nothing was going to harm it! I would definitely recommend this company, not only do they ship to Canada, if I am not mistaken, they are Canadian
  11. Very Very well said!!! We are from Calgary and Mexico is again in the news here because of a recent incident in Mazatlan. We are choosing to get married in Mexico because we love it there. We travel smart and are safe and some might thing "take our chances" and some people still think we are dumb or whatever because perhaps the Dominican or Jamaica would be "safer" but we don't care what their opinions are! I always say you hear about all the people who get attacked by bears in the rocky mountains, but you don't hear about the thousands or however many people there are that never encounter a bear EVER while in the mountains. There are a TON of Canadians going to Mexico every week of the year and I know there are some incidents that happen there and they are unfortunate, but these violent acts happen everywhere, even in our own backyards!
  12. WOW! What a fantastic thread! Everything about your big day was gorgeous!!!! Thanks for posting in such great detail!
  13. Great to know, perhaps I will contact her because I am sure if I buy all the flowers I would want to make my own bouquets and corsages/bouts it would be just as costly if I just ordered from her...and I am SURE her arrangements would look much nicer than mine! haha
  14. Thanks for the review Avens - great work! Your wedding was gorgeous! Just a question - do you mind sharing where you got the flowers to make your corsages/bouts? I would love to do something like that, I absolutely love plumeria flowers! Thanks!
  15. Thanks Macker! I hope you are finding all the info you need...this site is a life saver!!!
  16. Hi Alison! Check out this thread and maybe post questions you may have there, everyone on there is getting married that the Palace or has, or knows something about it in some way! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/21746/barcelo-maya-palace-brides-post-here-d
  17. Walkie - Talkies - Best idea EVER! Thank you SOOO much! I was trying to figure out how we could communicate between the two parties to make sure the guys are doing what they should be where they should be, and as we won't have our cell phones I was thinking all hope was lost! We are officially buying walkie talkies! LOL!!
  18. What a great bunch of songs on here! I am just wondering, forgive me if this is a silly question, but when does the Groom and best mangrooms men walk in...do they get a song as well? Also, if doing a symbolic ceremony I think I have seen that we sign a certificate to make it look "official" but is this a long process that will also require a song, or not?
  19. JoanneIreland thanks for all your info and pics, your wedding (and you) looked amazing!
  20. AudEv2012 , check out Juan Navarro for a photographer, his packages are quite reasonable in my opinion and I really enjoy his work! Once we can work out our date we will be booking him!!

  23. oh Blujena, I do have a couple questions I just thought of.... how long was the reception, did you feel you needed to add any time to the pacakge? and you said you used the ipod, just curious, how was the sound system or was it your own you brought, and was their a microphone to use for the announcements? Thanks!!!
  24. Blujena, thanks for the info, you have definetely put my mind a little more at ease! I'm glad everything was so perfect for your day! Congrats!
