  1. My FI and I definitely feel your pain!!! "OMG...you should get married on the beach! I am SO there. We're all coming!" <------- that is exactly what we are going through too! Hearing that from people initially and now they avoid us at all costs when we try to talk to them at all, it's like we are the plague! LOL! In my opinion, we are all adults, this is not a high school party, commit or don't! I think its very difficult for people to think that this is their vacation and not just our wedding, as I put it to a friend, all we are asking for is ONE EVENING, not even a whole day out of the 7 day trip! At this point, in order to not continue to be disappointed we are basically expecting no one but our parents and siblings and this way anyone who comes is a bonus and we are happy for them to be there!
  2. Have you been on the other Barcelo thread, I know its not specific to 2012 brides but it is excellent, whenever I am looking for something the answer is usually on that one. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/21746/barcelo-maya-palace-brides-post-here-d/2880#post_1743101 I posted the menu for 2012 on the other thread if you want to see your options (if you haven't already received it from your WC). Our wedding is Nov 29, 2012, our planner is Victoria and so far she has been quite excellent with getting back to us. I am trying to just remember all the ladies on here who say that everything works out in the end and to relax for now as the coordinators are super busy.
  3. Thanks! The purple paper for the boarding pass sleeve we got from Paper-garden.ca, it is Curious Metallics Violette, it is sold at many different companies online I have seen as well. Had I known the quality of the paper I was going to receive I would have ordered our white and teal from this company as well! The white paper for the boarding passes is from Michaels, it is lighter weight than the purple stuff and it has a small label on the back that says Bazzill Basics Paper, Diamond. The teal colored small square on the front of the boarding pass is the same kind of paper as the white just a different color. The pictures don't do any of the paper justice, they are all beautiful deep colors (except the white of course) with a subtle sparkle. 5. Thanks for the music feedback, we decided to go with the keyboard and bass...here's hoping its great! If anyone is interested and it hasn't already been posted here recently I have the menu options available this year! It appears it is similar to what other ladies have been saying they had at their weddings, but in case you were interested I thought I'd offer!
  6. Thanks ladies! We sent them out and the response was great from some and so-so from others! LOL! It appears people don't appreciate hand made goods as much these days...unless of course they thought they were professionally done! Not so sure about that! Haha!
  7. I just bought these from Victoria's Secret as a back up late night party shoe, in case what I find for my wedding shoes are not comfy enough for the whole day/night event! I bought them in white as well as purple (that's my color for my girls), they are super comfy and cute on! http://www.victoriassecret.com/ss/Satellite?ProductID=1265724401812&c=Page&cid=1327029233500&pagename=vsdWrapper
  8. We are confirmed for November 29th and now get to start the rest of our planning! YAY! Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on the different instruments avaialble, what did you use and what did you think of it. I am planning on walking down the aisle to Canon in D and there is the option of saxophone, violin, flute or keyboard and bass and I have no idea what to pick as a combination of instruments is usually what you find when listening to Canon in D.
  9. It's awesome to see this thread! LOL! Anad1027, my own father would do the Costco shorts thing....instead he has said to me that he is buying a suit for HIS wedding and he will wear it to mine after.....THAT is a whoooolllleeee other story! LOL! I felt very bridezilla-ish for a moment when I was talking about it with my FI saying "how do I nicely tell people to leave their stupid shorts at home!" LOL! I agree with Torilynnsmith, I felt the same way, this is our one and only wedding, I am wearing a beautiful expensive wedding dress, he is wearing a suit, don't show up in your hawaiian shirt! I am happy to see this thread and the way you are all putting the wording, Beach Elegance, Resort Chic, etc, I will for sure be borrowing it!
  10. Hey Angela, the school break most are likely talking about is reading week with Canadian Universities and Colleges, you might be able to find out when the break is from a university website. This year it was Feb 19th-25th, its like spring break for US schools but different timing.
  11. We are doing message in a bottle, setting out a large glass bottle in our wedding colors and small cute paper with ribbons and asking people to write us a tip/well wish, etc on the paper and tie it up and put it in the bottle. We are still looking for some cute wording to put out asking people to write us a note. This was our inspiration: http://www.etsy.com/listing/22868217/message-in-a-bottle-station-guest-book We aren't sure what we will do as the end product, perhaps make a scrapbook and put pictures of guests from the wedding beside their note or something along those lines.
  12. Our original quotes were great, our second round of quotes were pushing $2000 and we started to re-consider resorts until Air Transat's quotes came in! Also, I don't know if you are really set on your travel agent but I have heard that people have gotten different rates quoted from different agents, and some will work very hard to get trips within your budget. It may also be the timing of when you are going as I have heard February is quite a bit pricier, you may want to be sure you aren't going during Canadian Reading Week as prices tend to go much higher then. Perhaps something else to consider too, go onto Westjet, or call their group booking line and give them your request and they will provide you with a quote directly, we did this and the rate we got was better than what our travel agent got...weird! As for booking a group, we aren't having a huge group, less than 40 and still qualify for group rates, we were told by a few providers we just needed at least 10 from each departure gateway. Good Luck! I hope it all works out for you and your guests to make it to the Barcelo!
  13. We did the " no deposit wedding" with Air Transat, so my FI and I each paid a $200 deposit and now 30 seats are held for us; each guests deposit is due within 90 days of our deposit - this was the best deal as most other ones needed deposits within 30 days of getting a quote. THe final amount is due 60 days prior to departure. AT prices are the best we found so far and that's after getting multiple quotes from Westjet and Air Canada and other i think sunwing or sunquest, Westjet was next best with Air Canada being the highest. Each company offers different deals too so whatever you do make sure you ask for one! LOL! They don't always offer it if you don't ask! It may be each 6th room is free (not flight) or the 16th or 20th trip is free (excluding taxes) etc, etc. We are flying out of Calgary and Toronto so have prices from each airport, here are the #'s from some of our quotes: Westjet: Calgary Tropical - $1587, to Palace $1814 Toronto to Tropical $1491, to Palace $1714 Air Canada: Calgary to Tropical - $1736, to Palace - $1819 Toronto to Tropical $1587, Toronto to Palace we didnt have quoted the second time around Air Transat was more than $100 cheaper than the westjet prices so we went with them! We don't have the flight times yet but will soon...our fingers are crossed for good ones!
  14. Glad you found them helpful! Thats definitely not a bad price at all to have them started for you!!! Our paper was 47 cents per page (before shipping) and after shipping was probably close to 80cents per page so really if I had found that deal with pre-made sleeves I would have gone with it! We did have fun making ours though! If you have the time and patience do it yourself as a fun project, if you are short on time (or patience lol) maybe have them pre-made. We made the boarding pass sleeves from scratch and it was not hard at all, but its quite the process, and as we are so picky I had to precicesly measure every piece of paper individually in 4 places, then score the paper in order to be able to fold it as it was thick card stock and would break at the seam and not fold nicely, and then we had to fold them all up once they were scored. It was a fun project but getting it down to a perfect process took a few practice pages.
  15. We are still deciding on how long to book him for as well! I guess it depends on what you want for pictures, such as if you want the getting ready pics before, plus group pics, as well as your entire ceremony and reception photographed. Also it will depend on the timing of your ceremony and reception and if you are also having a cocktail hour in there somewhere too. We don't have an official time for our reception booked so we can't decide on how many hours we will need but we are deciding between 5 and 6 hours as well, we don't plan to have him stay for our entire reception and party as we have many guests who have fantastic cameras and will be taking pics like crazy too.
  16. We have Victoria as our planner and she is quite good with replying to emails, usually we receive a response within a day or so, 3 days at the longest since its the busy season! Sometimes I need to re-send emails to get confirmation or clarification, but I am super particular so that is something I would do anyway. I get a little nervous reading on here that people are having issues getting what they want for receptions as our wedding date is technically just on hold until the travel agent gives me the contract info for our trip to send to Victoria. Trying to stay positive though!!! As for prices, we started requesting price quotes in Dec 2011 for Nov 2012 travel, as we were trying to decide on resorts and everything we ended up requesting quite a few different quotes from Air Canada and Westjet because their quoted prices are only good for so long and we needed quotes leaving from different cities. We also took a while deciding as we were trying to get the best deal for our guests, but also get the best conditions for booking, such as when deposits and when final payments were due. We chose to go with Air Transat and have sent out our invites already, although they still have no flight times posted for us, apparently this happens within approximately 9 months of travel. We are traveling out of Canada, though, so this may be different if flying out of the US or elsewhere.
  17. They look great! Nice colors! I am not a pocketfold expert and have no idea what your plan is for the wedding such as if you will be traveling etc, but maybe for the sheets on the inside what about one with your official wedding invite type info, one for accommodations, one for travel booking info, one for rsvp...something like that? Here are some threads to check out and maybe get ideas from others who have done something similar: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/67938/sunkisseddreams-diy-pocketfold-invites http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/40141/my-pocketfold-invites-are-done http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/58052/cassies-pocketfold-invites http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/54156/my-diy-pocketfold-invitations I did boarding pass invites and even though they are different than what you are doing they still include different pages of info so you could also look around at those posts as well if you are interested in more people's ideas for structure and what they put for information in their invites. There are some really different and super cute ways people have worded their RSVP's and such! Good luck and looking forward to seeing your final product!
  18. Thanks a lot! That's super reasonable! I think I will check her out!!!!
  19. Great job! They are super cute! I thought about these but wasn't sure I wanted to spend a whole lot on them....DIY to the rescue! This is totally do-able! Thanks for posting!
  20. We were just in Playa Del Carmen over the Jazz fest time last November and until a waitress told us about it we had no clue! haha! When we ventured down to the beach club to see the festival it was VERY busy and super noisy, obviously the noise due to it being an outdoor concert. We were staying at the other end of Playa Del Carmen's 5th Ave so didn't notice any big difference in amounts of people prior to the jazz fest or after it happening but when we were in the area of where it was you can tell there is a ton of traffic and lots of drunk people wandering in that area.
  21. I second the www.paper-garden.ca recommendation, we were very impressed with their product, the pricing and shipping! And they are in Canada!!
  22. Looks great! Would you mind sharing who the seller was and what your cost was to have it so personalized with the dog and everything? I have been looking all over Etsy at different sellers for this exact thing! Thanks!
  23. Well we decided to give our hand a try with DIY and tried for invites! I say WE because my dear fiance put in just as much effort as I did and even with the frustrations that went along with them we had such a great time making them together! I think they turned out pretty darn good! Just a couple notes: - We used the Aylee Bits template to get us started - it was SOOO helpful!!! - On the far right side above the box with our wedding date in it we personalized each invite with individual names - And don't mind the bottom of the invite where it says "Friday November Twenty Ninth...." we discovered this error after putting together our very last invite! We went and re-printed them and did everything over again, OOPS!! lol!
