  1. We have a lot of people that are too old to travel or it just wasn't possible financially, so we knew up front we were going to have an AHR. I included a letter with our Save the Dates which mentioned that we understand that not everyone could make it to Jamaica so we would be having a reception back here afterwards. Then we sent everyone the invite to Jamaica about 7-8 months before the wedding and we will send a separate invitation for our AHR as the date gets closer, about 2 months prior to the AHR date.
  2. Hi Krystal, I ordered real touch bouquets for my wedding. They turned out really nice and I like the fact that I can keep them after the wedding. I used http://www.plumeriasweddingflowerboutique.com/ to order mine.
  3. I haven't heard of it being bad luck. I'm planning to wear mine again at our AHR. Like you said, I'm never going to get a chance to wear it again, so why not?
  4. I'm sure you've heard this on here before, but it's YOUR wedding, not anyone elses. If you want a relaxing day at the park on Sunday without it being a total boozefest, then that is exactly what you should do For my AHR, I am holding it at a local golf club with dinner, drinks, iPod/jukebox music. I wanted it to be a celebration, but not with all the formal stuff of a typical wedding reception (DJ, speeches, first dances). My future MIL wanted us to do it in our backyard and ask everyone to bring a dish. That just wasn't how we pictured this reception, plus I still wanted this to feel like MY day and didn't want to worry about cleaning, cooking, and being a good host. My fiance explained that to his mother and she seemed to be ok with us doing what we wanted. Hopefully if you or your fiance explain what you want for the AHR, she will understand and not make a big deal out of it. And besides, if you try to make her happy and wait until August to hold it on a Saturday, then someone will probably complain that you waited so long to have it. I've come to realize that no matter what we/you do, someone will have something to say about it. That is why you should just do what YOU want to!
  5. Oooohhh, now I want to see them!! Congrats on finding 2 that you like You can post pictures using the button in the top of the reply box. The picture one is the 8th one from the left, left of the movie strip looking one. Please post Is that David's Bridal that you found them at? And the alteration cost is over $500? Yikes, I was hoping to spend around $100 for alterations, but I've never had anything altered before and don't know what the standard cost is.
  6. I was in the same situation. I had head that a lot of places could take up to 6 months, so I decided to go and look for dresses in October for my April wedding. I had lost about 40 lbs since the beginning of the year, and still planned to lose at least that much more, but I couldn't wait until a month before the wedding to start looking. I ended up getting my dress at David's Bridal, and they said it would be about 4-6 weeks to get my dress, and it actually came in 2 weeks! Now I'm sure that is because it is a larger chain and they carry their own gowns, but if you are looking for something that is by a specific designer or has a lot of customization to it, it will definitely take longer. I was concerned about the size, and they said they could alter the dress down 2 sizes, which they said was about 40 lbs. They also said that I should try on the dress occasionally, and if it was getting too big, there should still be time to exchange the size. So basically, I agree with Allie, start shopping now! Have fun
  7. I am interested in registering for this webinar. I'll keep an eye out for the link
  8. Thanks Krista! I forget what the paperwork says - is the steel drum band a per hour charge? Are they charging you for that extra time? I'm not going to be hiring any additional musician(s) for the ceremony. I'm just going to use who they provide with the sound system. I would think that since they are already set up it wouldn't be a big deal, but you never know. I should be starting to finalize things with the WC soon since my wedding is 3 months away, so I will double with her as well.
  9. I'm getting married April 27th at the Beach and will be arriving on the 24th. For the cocktail reception, I would recommend the Bob Marley Terrace. The only reason I suggest that is because if it is darker and people are drinking, you don't want to worry about anyone accidentally falling into the pool. But maybe it is far enough away from the pool that you don't have to worry about that? I've never been to the resort so I'm not sure.
  10. It's one wedding per day at each resort, so on any given day there could be a wedding taking place at the Grand, one at the Suites, and one at the Beach.
  11. Have fun! I'm looking forward to hearing how it all goes. First and foremost, enjoy your time down there and don't get too caught up with fulfilling everyone else's requests. But since you asked... I would love for them to be able to play music while our guests are arriving (maybe 15 minutes before the ceremony) and for a bit afterwards while we are having the champagne. Since there is already someone there playing music for our ceremony, I'm wondering if they would accommodate this request. Do you know, or would you mind asking?
  12. I'll be getting married on April 27, 2013. What date are you interested in?
  13. Cancemini - This is the email address I have been using as well. Over the past year I have received responses from Kymoya, Santena, and Trisha. I think they all work (or have worked) in the wedding department. As long as Kymoya is answering your questions, I'm sure everything will be fine.
  14. I emailed their wedding department at [email protected], which is the same email address I have been using for questions since then. Let them know you are interested in booking a wedding, and what date(s) you are interested in. They will be able to tell you if they are available and send you the documents you need to fill out to reserve the date. I have received responses back from a couple of different people over the past year (Santena, Kymoya, Trisha) so I'm not sure who the main contact is right now.
  15. Hi Leah, I sent you a message through facebook with pictures/files of the items I have available. If you haven't seen it, you might want to check your "other" section of your inbox. It might have gone there since we aren't friends. I just found out about that today!
  16. I had those same requirements, and also wanted an all-inclusive resort. Like Animo, I chose the Iberostar in Montego Bay. We went with the Beach resort simply for the cost factor. I was trying to keep the price at or below $1500/person for a week (air, hotel, all-inclusive). And when we priced it out it was around $800 or so extra to stay at the Suites and we decided to use that money elsewhere. There are going to be guests coming that haven't traveled internationally before, so I didn't want to give them any extra stress by having to worry about a long drive to and from the airport. That's another reason we chose Montego Bay.
  17. I'll probably hand deliver as many as possible to save on the shipping costs, and most are family that I will probably see around that time anyways. But otherwise I will mail out any that I can't get around to delivering. I'll send you a message on facebook shortly
  18. I'm including a letter saying thank you for joining us and how much it means, basically something short and sweet. Then each person will get 2 luggage tags, 1 key card/tip holder with wrist coil, a pre-travel brochure with tips & info about Jamaica & the resort, a Jamaica tourism book, a packing check list, a resort map, and information on the optional group excursion we are planning for the day after the wedding. Once I have all the pieces ready, I will post pictures, but if you want to see any samples now, I have everything completed except the excursion info and the tourism books that are coming from my TA.
  19. And I pretty much have everything planned, it's just waiting for the time to come up to do them. For example, I have the items I am sending out to everyone for the pre-travel pack, but I'm not sending it out until the beginning of April. I am waiting until I have a better number of our guest count before ordering favors and chair sashes. We have the details figured out for our AHR, but invites won't be going out until early March. It's mostly those types of things. I made a list of all aspects of the wedding, then broke each one out into further detail so I knew what I had to plan for, and I've been slowly working on the items that I can now.
  20. Hi! I may have to spy on your wedding and take notes, haha. What colors are you using for your wedding? I'm orange and pink/fuchsia. I'm trying to keep the costs down, so I'm not doing too much above and beyond what the resort provides. So I'm bringing my flowers, as you already saw, and my centerpieces. I'm also planning to bring chair sashes in my colors. It doesn't look like we will have 25 people down there with us, so I guess we will just be set up in their restaurant wherever they put us. I'm planning for a U-shape set up, so hopefully that won't be a problem. I don't recall if I already posted the centerpieces on here or not, so here is what I am planning to do:
  21. My ceremony is set for 4:30pm. The sunset in April is around 6:30pm, and I want to make sure there is enough time for some pictures while the sun is still out, and also allow some time in case anything comes up that would delay the ceremony.
