  3. Hello ladies! I need your help! We are finalists in a contest to win a photographer. Please, please, please take a moment to vote for us! We are "Karolina and Michael" (the 6th couple on the list). You can vote once a day until the 28th! Thank you so much for your time!
  4. I found an etsy seller who makes soap pieces that look just like sea glass. I was either going to buy bulk from her and pack my own little pillboxes, or even considered making sea glass candy myself and packing it in cute tins.
  5. I was thinking of just having the dance floor be.. the sand. I have this romantic envisioning of people dancing barefoot with sand between their toes, under the night sky. Is this completely unpractical?
  6. Thank you for your replies everyone. As it stands, my FI isn't even sure he wants to have wedding parties at all. He doesn't want to choose between his friends. So PC, but I suppose I understand. I think choosing the party can be very complicated and hurt feelings are bound to happen. I will insist on at least having my best man. He's like my brother, I love him dearly, and if I could, I'd have him walk me down the aisle.. so, perhaps in worst case scenario (being that my FI refuses to have groomsman), perhaps I can have my "brother" as my MOH, and he can have his sister as BW. The interesting thing is that my FI couldn't wrap his mind around the idea of having mixed gender bridal parties and kept insisting that my MOH stand on his side just because he's male. I had to put my foot down and say, "no way, he's mine!" haha.. either way, a lot to think about and I will definitely take everyone's feedback into consideration!
  7. I just got bank transfer info from Mayte. She said my date for March 2013 is confirmed, but I think we still want to send some sort of deposit just to solidify it even more. BTW, I think it's AWESOME that Mayte takes care of place cards and menus. It's just one less thing to worry about! I am planning on sending my STDs by the end of March for 12 months of notice... and probably the invites somewhere around the end of summer/early fall.
  8. Hello ladies. This might be kind of a strange question, but I have seen many TTD sessions in Punta Cana where the bride and groom are riding or leading a horse. I would LOVE to have a horse for my TTD and I was wondering how you can arrange to have that? I know that there are arranged horseback riding excursions, but these photos make it appear that a single horse was rented?
  9. Hi! Welcome and congrats! I agree that the photographer and videographer may be a good next decision. Depending on who you go with, they may have schedules that book early. Also, I've heard that some dress alterations can take a few months from start to end, so you may want to look into that as well. Other than that, I think 9 months is plenty of time for details! Good luck!
  10. Thanks ladies. I don't think I have wrapped my mind around the fact that his family is going to become mine as well! Since we are mixing genders, at least I am with my man of honor, would it be more appropriate for her to stand on my side or his?
  11. I actually own this dress in black. Although I like it, (you can actually find it for $21 online from other sellers in select colors!!!), the bottom hem is unfinished and rolls up. I think it makes the dress look less.. erm... dressy. Other than the unfinished hem, I wish it were evenly cut on the bottom.. but since the hem is unfinished, I suppose I could mod it myself without hurting anything!
  12. Hello ladies. I have an etiquette question. My FI has mentioned a few times that he thinks the groom's sister is automatically a bridesmaid. I don't know what to do. Although she is nice, we don't really have anything in common, and we're not close. In fact, we don't really have that much to talk about when it comes down to it.. probably stemming from the fact that we are COMPLETELY different people in personality, goals, and views. Family is very important to my FI but he's not super close with his sister in terms of.. they're best buds or something. It's his only sibling, and I'm an only child. Our wedding is going to be a little alternative. First, I plan on walking down the aisle by myself, as my father and I had a falling out several years ago. Second, I'm trying to keep the wedding party small. My MOH is actually my MAN of Honor, as my best friend is a guy, and I only want 2-3 girls besides him. I know everyone says.. "do what YOU want on your wedding day," but I also don't want to break some huge etiquette law and have hurt feelings or something. What I want to know is what YOU would do if you were in this situation. Thanks ladies!
  13. I am MOST excited about our TTD shoot than any other photos/video we are doing! I'm so excited to just have a kick-back, fun shoot where we can incorporate the ocean (something important to both of us!), and just be silly. The best part is that most of the photography packages I have seen have fairly inexpensive TTD sessions. So worth it! I'm expecting that most of the photos that I will frame and cherish the most will be from our TTD.
  14. Many of our guests are in their mid 20's, a few still live with their parents (!), and our family is certainly not made of doctors and lawyers. I am definitely not planning on having a registry of any kind. I think I am going to put something in the invites about their presence being the best thing they can give us.. On top of the fact that I don't want a gift registry for a destination wedding, we are currently living abroad and have no use for any time of physical gifts.
  15. About $15K total including airfare for us. We're also budgeting about $1,000 to spend on townhouse rentals for our friends who are on a tighter budget. I'm budgeting a little higher than I originally would have expected for better photography and videography, but I'm saving on things like my dress ($300!!). Our friends who got married in the NJ/NY area all spent over $30K. During the early stages of planning, I got turned down from 3 locations in NJ that I loved for having under 150 guests!!!! In the end, I'm MUCH happier to have our wedding in the Caribbean. :)
  16. Good info, thanks! I think I will try this too. Since the process seems to be so slow, maybe I'll just do my own estimate and send about $500-600. Did you use paypal or a bank transfer?
  17. Hello, We are in the processes of booking for March 2013 at the Jellyfish!
