  1. Hey congrats! I'm a March Punta Can bride myself! We're looking at Ocean Blue as one of our most affordable options right now.
  2. My fiance and I have this crazy little idea... we want to renew our vows every year, in a different country every year! We wouldn't make it a huge thing every time.. it would most likely be just the two of us, and someone to do the renewal ceremony. I'm super excited about this idea and I think it will be a great way to keep the relationship exciting and fresh!
  3. Awesome! We're still deciding on the resort. Right now, we're considering Ocean Blue. Even though it's kind of far from the Jellyfish, it seems to be MUCH cheaper than the other resorts, and we don't want our guests to have to spend too much money.
  4. Oh my! A dress fire! I was thinking battery-powered lights. And in my head, I see 42" lanterns... of course, I don't know how I would get these to the DR, for one... and for two, I'm not going to spend $350 for TWELVE. I'm glad everything worked out AquaCait!
  5. We're doing seafoam/mint grean/light teal and sand. I'm kind of a control freak (sigh.. it's true!), so there's no way I can leave it all up to Mayte!! I have this vision that I really want to see through. I'm bringing down a tree swing (Mayte said she'd find a place for it!) and I'm currently thinking about centerpieces. I will probably send her a mock-up of what I'd like. I'm thinking a square tray filled with sand on top of fishing nets, filled with driftwood, mason jars with crochet covers, paper flowers, and small photo frames with pictures in them to go with our theme (sharks!). I can't decide whether I want seafoam table linens or more of a natural beige. I also have this kind of crazy idea about decorating the outdoor sand area with clusters of oversized paper lanterns that will be lit up at night. The problem is that I've only found these lanterns for sale in sets of 12, and buying that many at once would cost in the hundreds of dollars...
  6. Jenn, We transfered $500. Make sure you keep all of your transfer receipts. I had to send mine in because the Jellyfish manager couldn't locate our transfer.
  7. Seems like this thread has quieted down lately. Is everybody off and married?? Ha ha.. I do have a question for you.. are you planning anything special with decorations? What colors are you doing?
  8. I got a menu from Mayte a couple of months ago. It doesn't look much different from the one posted online, but I only glanced at it!
  9. My TA said that most resorts will allow you to decrease the number of rooms within 120 days of the booking date, without a fee. I would look into this.
  10. I'm walking down to a slower, instrumental version of Eye of the Tiger.
  11. We live abroad, so we couldn't just go in to our local bank to do it. With help from the 1-800 number, we were able to figure out how to do it online. The final "proof" I sent was actually a screenshot, so that's not a bad idea!!
  12. We won a wedding photography contest which will save us about $1500... I want to reinvest that money in paying for a group dinner... OR... I really want to pay for everyone to take an excursion out to swim in the Marinarium... especially since our wedding is shark themed!!
  13. I figure.. they are spending A LOT of money just to fly out and attend.. I'll be paying for them! I will, however, pay attention to pricing and be sure not to go over $100 each.
  14. Oh wow! This is absolutely awesome!! I love the hanging wire fish and the shrimp bowl!!!
  15. If I were single, I would be upset if I spent over one thousand dollars to come to a wedding, and couldn't bring a guest. I took a female friend to a wedding once and it was such a relief to not have to sit alone with people I didn't know very well. I was so thankful to the bride and groom for allowing me to bring a friend and I had a great time!
  16. We did a bank-to-bank transfer from another US bank. We definitely thought the information provided was not enough info, but we just made it out to "The Jellyfish" and it went through. Make sure you keep ALL of your confirmation numbers and receipts. Mayte's boss lost our transfer for over two months and I had to finally send a photo copy of our transfer receipt before he found it.
  17. Hello everyone! I FINALLY got my STDs sent out. I used postcards.com to print and send my STDs through direct mailing. It was only $45 for them to print AND mail out 53 postcards. Here is my final design: I also just finished my website. The back of the STD asks my friends and family to check out our website, where they can RSVP and get more info. I designed everything myself!! Here it is: www.karolinaandmike.com I had so much fun designing my own STD/invites/website that I opened an Etsy store... I've had 17 sales in the first 2 months!! SO exciting! Only 9 1/2 more months to go...!
  18. JUST heard from Mayte... her boss finally found my missing $500 bank transfer deposit that we made at the beginning of February! Whew!
  19. Thanks for all the input ladies. My initial post was pretty shortsighted. I don't have siblings of my own and have estrangements in my immediate family... so... "family" is still something I'm trying to wrap my head around. I decided in the end, that I will ask her. After all, it's his only sibling, she is going to be my sister soon, AND it means something to him. Get this though... since my original post, she got engaged and scheduled her wedding 7 WEEKS before ours!!! ARGGGHHH! Trying not to pull my hair out and be understanding instead.. it has definitely delayed my asking her. Waiting for my own emotions to cool down, and will probably ask her in a couple of months.
  20. I TOTALLY understand that she's busy! As a professional who get's lot's of client requests of my own, I understand how it's hard to reply to people sometimes. HOWEVER, my clients, although sometimes needy and wanting quick replies, don't have major life-changing events to plan!!! I get that she's busy, and that she's AWESOME, but if it takes 2-3 weeks for her to reply to somebody who is getting married in a month, she ABSOLUTELY should get some help! I have been holding off on sending inquiries because I figured she was busy with weddings happening this month and this summer.. but now I wonder if I should just go ahead and start asking questions I need to know now...
  21. Hmm.. maybe it's time for the Jellyfish to hire an assistant for Mayte! My wedding isn't for 10 more months, but I can't imagine how stressful it must be to not hear from her a month away from the big date!
  22. Nice job! I would suggest making the names larger, as right now they are dwarfed by the S. I would also try bringing the palm trees onto either side of the date for balance.
