Braco Beach/Village Resort & Spa Brides 2013
Ang McD replied to Ang McD's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Hi Andrea, Our wedding was great. The resort was lovely, the staff were phenomenal and the wedding coordinators were great. We had 68 guests in total and had our wedding at the gazebo at about 4 o clock. We met with the wedding planner(s) a couple days before the wedding and they were fantastic. The timing was great because it wasn't too hot and there wasn't any pause between any part of the wedding celebration. The day basically worked out like this: at 1:00 I had my hair and makeup done by Nadra (who is excellent and beautiful). At 3:00 the on-site photographer met the boys for photos. At 3:30 he met the myself and the girls. At 4 we walked down the aisle (I brought a CD of music that they played. After the ceremony, the guests went directly to a cocktial hour where there was a saxaphone player and some appetizers (which everyone loved). There were tables set up for groups to sit at (it was located on the other side of the resort by the beach). During this time, my husband and I went for more photos and then met everyone there. After we came in, we had champagne, speeches and our first dances (from our CD). Afterwards, it was getting dark and we lit Chinese Wish Lanterns - which was awesome! I had to bring those though. Then, we all went for dinner. This is where is gets tricky. If you get married there on a Tuesday or Thursday, the resort holds a beach party or street party and all other food venues shut down. they did not tell us this in advance. It didn't matter to us, but I know it would to some brides. We ate in a segregated section for the street party and then enjoyed the rest of our night with our guests celebrating with the entertainment that the resort had. The coordinator arranged for us to have an additional dinner for us and all of our guests at the French restaurant (absolutely delicious) on the night after our wedding so we got to enjoy two dinners with the guests. All in all, it was excellent and completely stress free as long as you don't let the little things get to you. I'm not sure if I would recommend the on-site photographer or not. He did a good job, but there was no originality in the photos. It was very much like a documentary (this is what happened, and then they did this, and then...) whereas I love photography and asked for some unique shots to hang on the wall. Didn't really get any of those, but the image quality and colour/editing was good. Do not go into it thinking that if you give a decent tip or offer additional money to the photographer you will get more photos or even the uneddited versions of anything. You wont. We had to sit for hours to choose 70 of our favourites from 350 photos. We bought the big package and asked how much for all - we were told $3000 additional dollars. Let me know if you've got more questions. As a side note, they won't likely answer many questions that you have if you email them. Rest assured that they are competent and have created a file of all of your emails and have addressed most of your concerns. That part surprised me when I got there. Ang -
What are you walking down the Aisle to?
Ang McD replied to reevesbride's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
we had two good songs to walk down the aisle to that worked well for my husband's and my style and our relationship. The first was Eddie Vedder - Longing to Belong and the second was Bright Eyes - First Day of my Life (which we used to come back down the aisle together for). It's a pretty cute song. -
Thanks - we did use the resort photographer. He was good, but my advice would be to show him the types of photographs you want if you have something in mind. I wish I had have done that. Nothing particularly important for you to know. We wanted our own music to walk down the aisle to and for our first dances, so we brought a CD and that worked well. We had a saxist play during the rest of the time.I tried to save money where I could and opted to make my own bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquets along with boutennieres, because every paying for all of the additional ones for all 5 girls and 6 guys would have been expensive. I don't regret that choice at all because I got to include my own colours that way (that weren't as island-typical). We did have the reception on the beach. The guests said the appetizers were excellent. It lasted about an hour to an hour and a half and we did our bride/groom photos during this time, then went and did speeches, first dances, cut the cake and then let off chinese wish lanterns that we brought with us. Then we all went for dinner. It was super smooth. We weren't charged for all of our extra guests either (over 65) and I though for sure we would be since we had to feed them appetizers and an a-la-carte dinner. Keep throwing questions my way and I will try to keep answering them Ang

Just got back from our wedding at Braco. You're right, communication was difficult through email, but once I got there, things were smooth. The coordinators were fantastic and more than competent. The wedding went off without a hitch, the resort was great and the food was fantastic. I included some photos on my profile if you want to take a look. Let me know if you've got any questions. Ang

What shoes to wear on the beach
Ang McD replied to Future Mrs. Ligonde's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
I had the same problem - I thought I would wear regular sandals and then remembered that I'm only 5 feet tall...so I went shopping at the Eaton's Centre (Toronto) last week and bought a pair of wedge sandals half price from Guess. Hope they work! http://www.endless.com/Guess-Womens-Galloway-Wedge-Sandal/dp/B0077H6UD0/184-7926182-4443625?ie=UTF8&suppressRedirect=1 -
I'd love to give you answers, but honestly I can't. I've sent out several emails asking questions to the wedding coordinators (even just to verify the wedding date since it was only verified through my travel agent) and have got no response. From what I gather, there are 3 different wedding packages (750, 1750, 2750ish). They offer a dinner within the last two prices i think but only for 20 people, which is fabulous, but i will have approx. 55-60 guests... Still looking forward to it though. Best of luck with all your planning! And hey, if you get ahold of the wedding planners - give them my name I've actually stopped mentioning the date (Feb 14 2013) in my emails in hopes that they will think it's more imminent and respond. No luck. Ang

We are flying out on feb 10. i was told that the 9th flights were pretty booked up already (your party perhaps??) i really can't say how many people will be coming, it's so unpredictable. we have sent many invites ( i have a large family) but you never really know how many will invest the time and money. we've got a large wedding party of 11 plus us and our parents and guests of the party. all in all, we may have about 40ish. i'm really excited about this resort though. Both agents i went through were steering me more to Sunset Beach, but there's something about it that i'm not crazy about. let me know if you find any more info out about anything and i'll do the same.

I have booked my wedding at Braco Beach for Feb 14 2013. We initially had some trouble getting emails back - but my fantastic travel agent didn't give up and now just calls them directly. They have sent me a basic version of their wedding packages since when I asked for one originally they were still in the process of putting it together. I don't know too much about the resort, but the pictures are beautiful and I have only heard/read good things about it. My fiance and I are really excited to go.

These are the boxes that I sent to my girls asking them if they would be in my wedding party. They were a bit of work to put together but all the ladies loved them. Definitely worth the time!

show us your rings!
Ang McD replied to NABUMBAH's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Beautiful rings, everyone! Absolutely stunning! This is a photo of mine. I took a picture of it with the bouquet that my fiance gave me on the night he proposed. It has a matching wedding band that is basically the same as the band of the engagement ring. Looking forward to the wedding in 2013!!
