Show us your wedding dress!
mimiq replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
It looks lovely on you! I am hoping to have some of your luck when I next go looking. I have seen lots of great dresses, but not sure if i've found the one. have started to think that maybe i'm just not that kind of girl too! I am taking a break for a while and then will start looking again with a fresh outlook! -

We're planning to use Karina Jensen. Haven't seen too many reviews of her, but we really love her work!

I was wondering if anyone knows if the tax is already included in the rate in the Jellyfish brochure. If it isn't were you charged 16% or 26% on food and drinks? I'm just looking at the resort brochure (ME) and they state the tax rate for each item. Want to make sure I'm comparing apples to apples! thanks!

Just as a note, the rates that were quoted to us by Air Transat, etc, when were we 12-13 months out were way higher than when we got final rates. We've got guests coming from Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto too. When we got our first round of quotes we were really worried about the rates from Vancouver and Calgary because they were so high, they were out of our preferred price range. Our travel agent said that if the charter companies don't have their contracts settled they will tend to quote on the high side, just to cover their bases. To give you an idea, the quotes were off by a few hundred dollars for most resorts. Hope that makes you feel like there's some hope of them coming down when you're closer! And yes, we were about 11 months out when we booked for Nov. 2012.

Hi guys, Sorry, got distracted by Christmas! Here are pics - sorry they're not super focused. I'm not too skilled with a camera, but hopefully they get the idea across (they look better in real life and without the blackout marks!!). PM me if you have any questions! All in all, our opinion was that if you're keeping it relatively simple and have a handful of hours to spare for assembly, it's worth it to DIY!!

Hi All! My fiance and put our boarding pass invites together yesterday in about 4 to 5 hours to complete 80 invites! I know I was interested in how much time I would invest in cutting, gluing etc before I started so I thought I'd provide some details. We were quite happy with the time commitment and definitely weren't hating our choice of DIY by the end! We kept it pretty simple and only had a single card and a simple sleeve. We felt that most of our guests would look to our website for details and providing info about the Dominican or the Resort on extra cards wasn't really necessary. We got them printed at Staples and they were so awesome. The manager ended up giving us a deal, printing them right there while we waited without charging us for express, and giving us the nice cardstock for free! Not sure why - i think he was just happy to help with wedding stuff! Highly recommend the Staples on Broadway in Vancouver for printing! We had a friend design them for us, printed the boarding passes at staples and the sleeves at my fiance's work, then did the assembly at home while watching a couple of movies - that's it! The paper is probably where we spent the most money because we didn't order any online ahead of time and ended up paying about $0.80/sheet at Michaels. All in our invites cost about $1.90 each and a handful of hours of work. And we love them and had fun doing them together - Not bad!! Most of you probably know this, but I didn't realize this before I started (I'm only kinda crafty), but you can get a corner cutter that will round out the corners in one simple punch. It doesn't take much time and it makes them look a little more authentic (IMHO!). We also made the small notch cut and I only saw comments about people using manicure scissors to make that cut. Our designer friend gave us a tip to score the line, fold the paper, then use the corner cutter again to make the notch! Soooo much easier! It was hard to punch through the two layers of 110lb cardstock, but that has to be easier than scissors! The fold goes back pretty flat and we were really happy with the result. Just about to board a plane so I can't post pics at the moment, but will do so in the next few days. All in all we were really happy we did them ourselves and love the final product! Hope that helps make it easier for someone to decide if DIY is right for them! Feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks Mel! That's good to know! I am hoping to bring very little down with us too!

Hi Melissa, Your pictures look great! Can't wait for more and to hear your review! I was wondering if you wouldn't mind pointing out the things that you brought from home to decorate (if any i guess!). Congratulations!!

Hi Ladies, I think the standard decorating cost at the JF is $500 for 50 people or less, right? Would anyone who has had or is planning their wedding there and having over 50 guests mind sharing what the increase in costs was?

Hi all, I just thought I'd post my progress with 30 Day Shred. I was doing turbo jam, but wanted to try something different so I thought i'd give this a shot! I read some stuff online that said it was really important to do it every single day.. even if you're super sore. So before i started, I committed that I would do it every, single day! And I have for 11 days in a row so far!! Yay!! I set up a calendar on the fridge and every day that I do it I get to put a happy face on the calendar. I've gone back to school recently and this is end of semester/exam time, but I am forcing myself to find the 20-30 minutes a day for this. Before I started, I decided to take some before pics and measurements etc. so I could track progress as much as possible. Nothing like seeing a pic of you from behind to motivate! I'm pretty aware of what I look like from the front, but the behind pic was a bit of a shock! So, after 11 days and not changing my eating habits by any real measures (once exams are over I will try harder with that part of it!) I lost an inch off my hips, half an inch off my thighs, an inch off my chest, and my waist stayed about the same. Gained about half an inch on my biceps (muscle, i hope!). Overall, I'm pretty happy with the results and the workouts. Anyways, I just thought i'd share what my progress has been because it's nice to have some real people results from these things.... and it's a good motivator as I move on into level 2! Did it for the first time today and it's pretty tough!

Thanks for your advice LizT! Yeah, we won't do a beach wedding if we do it at the resort, pretty sure we'd only consider the gazebo because it seems a little more private. Did you happen to see any gazebo weddings?
-
Hi LizT, Your wedding looked beautiful! I loved your pic of the candy buffet and I was wondering if you brought down your own vases or if Mayte was able to provide them for you. Same question for the candy I guess! As far a photographer goes, we are looking for something similar where you just get a dvd with all the pics (edited too). Is that what you guys did? I was just on Michael's website and noticed he had a package like that, but did not have a price with it. Would you mind sharing that? Oh, one other thing I know the beach at JF isn't private so I wondered how busy it was with other people and if was a problem for you (or any other previous brides!). We are hoping to stay at the ME and might do the ceremony there and reception at JF (or maybe just everything at JF!) and I hesitate about the beach at resorts because I know you can often get randoms pretty close by. Was any of that a problem for you? thanks and congratulations!!

Thanks so much! It was lovely!! Now if only I could get confirmation of pricing for all my guests I could move forward! Looking forward to the review!

Hi Jessica, I just did a search for you in facebook, but wasn't sure which one was you!

Hi everyone, I looked on the Jellyfish facebook page, but can't seem to find the video. can anyone send a link? I'd love to see it!

Hi ladies, My fiance and I are considering getting married at the Majestic Elegance, but now that I've stumbled across the Jellyfish, I'm tempted to do something off resort - for the reception at least. It seems like a lot of brides on this thread are staying at the ME and then having all or part of the wedding at Jellyfish. I wondered what your motivation was for having some or all of it off resort. Were you unhappy with the service of the ME? Didn't think they could do as nice a job as JF? Price? Just wondered what other brides out there are thinking. What's drawing me in to JF is the lovely pics that I see with beautiful setups where everything seems to be included for the $500 decoration fee. Some of the pics of the resort setups don't look quite as cute once you compare to JF! TIA for the input!

Weight Loss/Fitness Support for 2012 Brides!
mimiq replied to perry1217's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
Hi Ladies, I'm about a year away from my wedding (having some issues with flight details so haven't nailed it down yet), but FI and I are planning to use this year for gradual changes in lifestyle with the main goal of looking better naked! That's basically what it all comes down to, right? Although looking great for a beach wedding is an awesome motivator, we really wanted to make longer term changes (like all of us i'm sure!). I've been doing Turbo Jam for the last month or so and have been really enjoying it. I think I need to work some more on what I'm eating as well though because apparently it's 80% what you eat and 20% how much you exercise! Anyways, I've seen a few people asking about inexpensive dvds for working out and i just thought i'd point out the torrent sites (ex. isohunt.com). lots of the videos mentioned are available there (P90X, Turbo Jam, Shred and others i'm sure).
