  1. OMG - are you serious?? Those guys are ANNOYING! We paid the fee directly to them. When we went their credit card machines were not working (not online) so we were about ready to leave and be like - well you had your chance, but then they got them going... our WC, Jacqueline just politely reminded us to pay them before we left. She only mentioned it like 2 times and we saw her a lot. I think she understands the frustrations of the bride and groom with having to pay that large fee.
  2. We did not pay for 2 nights for our photographer because it ended up being more than $500 (we had 2 photographers and there was an event there so I guess prices were higher than normal?)... so we said we'd pay the fee. Our WC told us to tell smile market that the photographer and videographer were from the same group so we wouldn't have to pay $1000. I believe we could have gotten out of it, if we completely ignored Smile Market. The only thing I can think of - is if they stopped us at the front desk as we were checking out. Barcelo really should separate themselves from that group.
  3. Completely agree... they are a huge pain! Do not tell them anything about your photographers. The person that needs to know about the photographers (in order to let them in the front gate) is the WC - Smile Market does not have any business in knowing who your photographer is. Every time we called, we just kept putting them off. I think my husband one time told them it was our friend and he hadn't arrived yet. BTW - at this point, you are stressed enough to be bothered by these people, so I also suggest having your fiance handle it.
  4. Here is my review: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/barcelo-maya-palace-deluxe-all-inclusive/reviews/6933 We are still waiting on our professional pictures.

  6. I did not use smile market.. they were way too expensive and their work was not that impressive. I was actually very annoyed by them. They called several times a day to our a room - every day. We used take it foto - Lupe and Agustin (fantastic!). http://www.fototakeit.com/blog/
  7. Your pictures are incredible! I love them all! I really liked how you were able to give gifts like that... honestly, so many things went wrong on my wedding day, and I wanted pictures like that but just couldn't get it done. I'm so glad that yours turned out!
  8. I have the same problem... and I literally had a friend follow me around with these oil tissue things and she'd blot my face every so often... I don't know how to get around it. When I walked out of the salon my make-up was perfect... but once I started walking down the aisle - it "shiny" bad.
  9. We did OOT bags... So we arrived on a Thursday (along with some other family) and others arrived on Friday. When I knew I'd see them, I'd give them to them or I'd ask them to stop by our room on the way back from dinner. I think they typically put the bride and groom in a room that is very near the front and closest to the lobby (which is a good thing). I had a "welcome cocktail" on Saturday night and distributed the rest then. Only 2 other couples were coming a day later. I think the hotel charges $3-$5 a bag to deliver. Believe me, the guests do not expect them so when they get them, they are excited and shocked!
  10. I can only answer the question about the final count - you will give the final count to your WC the first time you meet with her. Our numbers changed DAILY while we were in Mexico so we gave our numbers to her the day before the wedding. I have been in the banquet rooms - but they look like any banquet room at any resort. I had my reception in the Coral Grille and brought most of my own decorations. They did add candles, and rose petals on the tables, linens, chair ties, etc... It just depends on what you want I guess.
  11. Yes, we also did a lot of DIY... I think it's better - especially for a destination wedding - everyone complimented us on all of our little details.
  12. Hi! We got married in the chapel but had our reception in the Coral Grille which is the closest restaurant to the Gazebo. We had the cocktail hour right above the Coral Grille so it was all relatively close. Our only complaint about the Coral Grille was that it was SO HOT... we asked them to close the windows and turn on the AC but it was missing a window pane. I don't know how many people you are having at your wedding but I think they leave the Coral Grille to larger groups. Every other night we were there, it was used as a Japanese Restaurant.
  13. I THINK, if I remember correctly, that if you go with an outside DJ, the light up floor is cheaper than what the Barcelo offers you. In the end, we did the math and the outside DJ was a bit cheaper and they were great! (discomovil) Our videographer was Jorge Dominguez from Cinematik Weddings: http://cinematikweds.com/ He should provide us a "preview" in about 2 more weeks - but check out his work and see if you like it. I can send you the prices he quoted us if you are interested. Videographers are expensive and so we probably got about 25 different quotes. In the end we did not go with the cheapest but we liked his work and he was one of the cheaper ones. I don't know if the resort offers the videographer service... the resort photography is a definite problem that the barcelo should fix. They completely annoyed us to no end, calling every hour on the hour.
