Iberostar Site Visit 5/12/12

Hey! We did tour the rooms at the Grand and they are AMAZING! As far as the actual beds go I am not sure if they are different (our room at the suites had a king bed and the room we toured at the grand had 2 queen beds) however the linens at the grand are much nicer and more luxurious and they provide you with a pillow menu so that you can pick your perfect pillow. I don't know if that helps or not! -

Hey! I did not get an official tour of the beach BUT we did use the pool at the beach one day and ate at some of the restaurants there as well. I do not know whether or not the piano bar is open to guests at the beach but if not there MAY be a piano bar at the beach! Also I am pretty sure the bonfire includes open bar for a certain amount of guests so you may not need to use the front bar/piano bar for your welcome party if you really want to do the bonfire! We saw a bonfire welcome party at the beach when we were there and it looked like a blast! -

if you have a free wedding (ceremony) is it still free for guests from other resorts to come over?! -
We've been to Jamaica 2 times both mid-May. Two years when we went it rained 3 days we were there for about 10-20 minutes (sun shower) and then went back to the gorgeous weather. Two weeks ago when I went it was perfect weather. Did not rain once when I was there. From what I have gathered is there is always a chance of rain (the forecast when we were there said it was supposed to rain every day and it didn't) but it may only be a sun shower. I'm not 100% sure if it is true or not but that is just my experience.

We paid 60 a person for the catamaran(dreamer) which was a resort wide price. When I talked to our travel agent they said that for a private tour she said she has gotten prices for her private tours to around 35 a person for the dreamer- food not included. I don't know what tour you went on for 75 but the dreamer which goes to the montego bay marine park, and margaritaville with open jamaican bar (rums, sodas, rum punch and red stripe) is $60 per person

They have pasta station every night which was good, they also have a lot of rice dishes and paella and stuff like that which we enjoyed. We did not go to the japanese restaurant and the beach, we've been to a few all inclusive resorts that have hibachi places and we never enjoy them so we skipped it this trip. The food is not food like you would get at a "real" italian restaurant in NYC or something like that or a ruths chris quality steak from the steak house but we've been to about 6 or so all inclusive resorts plus a bunch of cruises and we agreed that this was the by far the BEST food we've eaten (also the first resort where neither of us got sick) I wouldn't worry too much about the food its going to be good- and I'm sure the grand's food is even more exceptional than the suites! -
Just Booked Misha! So excited!!!

Hey Ladies- Just wanted to put out a warning that we attempted to use digipix for our engagement pictures- we did a session with them and the pictures came out real crappy, (bad lighting etc.) so we didn't end up purchasing any, just wanted to give a more current version of their work. I hope this helps some of you!
-
FYI- I just got back from Iberostar and used digipix for our engagement session, all of the pictures turned out REALLY bad, lighting was off and they didn't take any of our suggestions for where we wanted the pictures taken. I wouldn't trust them for my wedding photos.

While I haven't gotten married there yet I can tell you from just getting back that the buffet has Jamaican nights 4 day a week (other days are italian and asian) and when we were there 5/12-5/19 lobster was not available (this was all at the suites) also there was alot of Jamaican food being served at the lunch buffets too! hopefully that was a little helpful at least! PS do you mind posting the menu options on here? I'm curious even though i have 13 months to go! -
We did do the dreamer this time, we paid 60 each and were quoted 35(ish) each if we were to do it privately. I have not emailed anyone yet about any of the catamarans because we have NO CLUE how many people are going to come (we invited 130 and are getting "we will 100% be there from EVERYONE) but who knows how many people are going to actually follow through- I figured I would get more of a price point when we get people actually booking... As far as food goes I don't really know how necessary it really is. We had the most amazing time and didn't even think about food. Personally after doing the dreamer two times I think I'm going to go with them reguardless- the crew is AMAZING so much fun. WIth all of that being said it is Jamaica and everything has a price, I'm sure they could do a food thing for you if you really wanted

Piano bar is at the suites but also attached to the grand, the way the lobby works is that you are able to access this middle portion of a common area between the suites and grand which has shops, a cigar bar, a piano lounge, the spa, the casino and a few other places I think, its nice, because you can get here from the lobby of the suites. Not sure where this connects to the grand, because there was a security guard that stopped us and said we were not allowed to go past that point because it was the grand. We will def be utilizing that bar alot for meet up places after or before dinner. They said it only gets crowded on nights they do karaoke. Like I said we were the only ones in there (which got weird for us because there were only 2 of us so we had a drink and left) but it would be great for a big group. Keep in mind when we went was down season so the place was operating at 1/2 or less capacity. It may be different during they're busy season -

Shauna When we went the beach was not very windy at all, we are going to do everything on the beach and we think it will be perfect! However Aunt Ruby's is VERY open and gives you a great view of the ocean and an outdoor feel while still having your feet on solid ground. I did not look into the slideshow thing so I cant help with that- (sorry) As far as the disco went, when we went all three hotels were at less than 1/2 capacity, so the disco wasnt bad at all, however depending on when you are getting married that can change. HOWEVER we talked to alot of the bartenders and workers there and they told us to checkout the piano bar- they said the bar was always open and no one was ever in there. We went and sure enough we were the only two people in the whole place and had 2 bartenders and an amazing space complete with a great balcony all to ourselves, we are thinking of forgoing a welcome party and having everyone meet there- it will be free and still private- it was an awesome place. Hope that helped! Kristi -

Hey Ladies! I just got back yesterday and I had an AMAZING time! I loved to suites BUT I am def happy to be getting married at the grand. The suites has ALOT of kids (i love kids but not on my relaxing vacation) The rooms are great and the food is good too! We saw so many weddings and they were all beautiful! The only issue I can see arising at the suites is that because the suites is the middle property you may get more people passing through than you would at the Grand/Beach because they are down on the ends. We did the Dreamer catamaran and decided that we are 100% going to book the private tour for next year- such a blast. I met with Jenealle she was super sweet and helpful. I don't feel like we accomplished much on the planning part because we are so far out, but it was awesome to get a feel for the resort and I can say with 100% certainty that everyone will have and AMAZING time at the resort! Let me know any questions you have. Allie- I noticed that they have cigar carts outside the buffet on certain nights and they pair certain cigars with after dinner drinks, I would bring that up to your dad maybe instead of cigar rollers, it seemed like a cool thing for after cake or something like that. I have so much info swirling in my head so please ask me anything! Thanks! Kristi
