  1. ElDorado2012- My fiance and I are both certified scuba divers, as well as some of our family and friends, we are planning on taking a scuba trip together (we are all paying for our own excursions; we are not paying for everyone to go on an excursion if that is what you were asking). When I was there for my cousins wedding in 2010, no one our 55 person group went to check out the bar scene elsewhere. I guess we all figured that we had already paid for all the alcohol we could want, so we didnt want to go pay for it elsewhere. I think a couple of people went to see the ruins at Tulum and a couple went to a small bazaar to do some shopping, but they did mention that the sales people were VERY pushy. We just went through our final payment period, so I know how you feel about people pulling out last minute Just remember, that you will have a great time with the people that can make it and you will have more time to spend with everyone with a smaller number of guests! We had hoped that by sending out our save the dates over a year in advance, that people would start saving then, but that just proved to not be the case with almost everyone. Putting away $50-100 per month sounds wayyy more manageable to me, but you cant expect everyone to be as logical haha We are using their ipod hookup for our ceremony and plugging in our iPhone (unless I replace my broken iPod between now and then). We bought a portable ipod player from Costco a couple months ago that has fantastic sound and a long battery, so we are going to bring that to our rehearsal dinner and cocktail reception. I would worry about hiring a classical guitarist if you have specific songs you would like played, as you would not likely get to meet the musician before hand and I recall reading a horrifying review of a classical guitarist that someone hired, who was off key, didnt play the requested songs, etc. Maybe one of your guests plays the guitar and wouldnt mind playing for your ceremony? My cousin's friend played his guitar for them and it turned out really well!
  2. A friend from home is doing ours, but my cousin used Claudia Photo and loved her!
  3. Everything for our OOT bags came in last week and we ordered glow jewelry (in our wedding colors) for our DJ to break out once the reception gets going! Those came today, so I think we just need to order our programs and we are set for ordering things! We still need to pick all of our music, but my fiance has been out of town almost all year, so I wanted to wait to make those decisions when we could be together, so yay for him coming home next Tuesday!
  4. I love that the culinary theatre is ceiling to floor windows, so it gives you the look of the outdoors, but with the a/c!
  5. Meeting with our minister went well! I now feel a lot better that we know what will be going on and I can start getting the programs together! I am not sure how many guests you are expecting, but maybe the health bar could work? It's right next to a pool as well, but it is right off of the main pathway though We have 40 guests and are having our private reception in the Salon Dorado. The space looks very pretty in pictures and since our wedding is in the middle of May, we wanted our guests to be in a/c for the dancing! I begged them to let us use the culinary theater space, especially since it is only open select nights, but they wouldnt budge. I think I still might push it when I get down there, especially if I end up not really liking the Salon Dorado My cousin had her reception on a Saturday at La Isla, which is right next to the main pool. I believe she had about 55 guests, but in order for them to consider shutting the restaurant down, they had to pay for about 64. It was a great space and very similar to the feel of Tucanes, where they had their rehearsal dinner. There were a few rowdy guests still at the pool, but they left shortly. Hope this helps! Sorry about missing out on the space you wanted I was terrified that someone would book the spaces we wanted so I have had our ceremony and reception space booked since March 2011! I'm such an over planner though
  6. We have a meeting with our minister (who is also a close friend of ours) this evening to discuss the order of events for the ceremony, as I am trying to order our ceremony programs this week, but I am at a loss for the wording, what to put in the program, and even the order we want things! Help!
  7. My grandmother is making my veil, I guess there are patterns for veils?? LOL I went to some bridal stores trying different veil options because I wasnt sure if I wanted one, but I think what I wasnt sure about was the price! I am still not sure that a veil will work, especially if its windy, but I wanted to have the option to make the decision that day, and I knew I would feel like I HAD to wear the veil if I had spent a lot on it. At one particulary "posh" store, the owner kept putting different veils in my hair and I looked at the price of one that she of course said looked the best and it was over $600!!!! Are they serious?!?!?! It's basically glorified mosquito netting that if I even decide to wear it, it will only be for the ceremony and some pictures.
  8. We are getting married on the beach and my fiance is a foot taller than me so I couldnt see me being barefoot for the ceremony. I found cheap white and cork wedges that I am wearing for the ceremony in the sand, which are the same heel height as my reception shoes. I was worried about getting it hemmed for bare feet vs heels as well. My thought was I would get it hemmed for my ceremony heels, and go barefoot in the sand for the ceremony by getting a crinolin slip to wear that would push the bottom of my dress out away from my feet and take away some of the length. Then before the reception, I could just slip out of the crinolyn slip and the dress would lay flatter and be a bit longer. My dress is fit and flare/mermaid.
  9. Stick with it! I try not to weight myself too often and just go with how my body feels. Even though I may have only lost a couple of pounds, I know that I have put on a lot of muscle, so I am happy with my progress. I was a competitive gymnast all throughout my life and college, so I am particularly hard on myself and my body image. I found that if I cut out any alcohol during the work week (i.e. happy hours) and also cut out any pasta, rice, and bread, I can recognize a change in my body and I feel fantastic! The first week was difficult and I do have my indulgences on the weekend, but now I find that I am craving more fruits and veggies. Plus, if I let know I let myself cheat on the weekends, it's easier for me to push through during the week! I tried on my dress a couple weeks ago and I was less than thrilled with how I looked in it. It's a really popular dress, so when I see other girls in it, I think "I am totally not as cute in it". With how the works out are, I keep thinking there is NO WAY they won't eventually work, right!?!? So, I will stick with it and come to you girls when I need it!!! That's why we are here!!! Keep up the GREAT work! And know you are building muscle and it will eventually you will lean out!!!! You are doing amazing!!! We are our worst critic and I am sure you are looking good!!!
  10. That is what I was thinking. I am working with Valeria as well and I have been very diligent about making sure the spreadsheet she keeps is up to date with the prices and numbers her and I have discussed over emails. We have been working together for over a year so I dont want to have to tote down a years worth of emails!
  11. At the El Dorado chain in Mexico, they will only do fondante icing because they said the butter cream will melt off. I love the look of fondante, hate the taste!
  12. I know we had discussed these sandals on this thread before and it was mentioned that you cant get them anywhere, but I found a site selling them! A little too pricey for sandals I may only wear at the wedding, but I thought I would post my finding! http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/aspiga/product/aspiga-starfish-beaded-sandal-silver

  14. Our friends and family are spread as well and for everyone to fly to my hometown and stay for a couple of days, it would cost almost just as much as a DW for guests to attend! At first my FI's family didnt seem too thrilled and I think at times they still arent, but now that we are getting closer, I think everyone is getting more excited. We were going to just go to the courthouse as well, but decided to do a small "legal ceremony" a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, my future father in law is extremely ill and may not be with us in May, so we wanted to include him in our getting married, along with my fiance's immediate family. At first I was afraid that it would take away from the wedding in Mexico, but I am very glad we did it early because I know it meant a lot to my fiance and his parents and sisters. After having the small ceremony, I know it will not take away from our big day in Mexico, but you couldnt have convinced me that it wouldnt before hand.
  15. We are getting married on a Saturday at El Dorado Royal in Riviera Maya, then unfortunately my then husband has to come back for work, so we are leaving the day after our wedding. We are taking our honeymoon a month later at Iberostar in Jamaica! At first I was little upset that we couldnt go straight into our honeymoon, but I think it is working out for the better. It will be nice to split up 2 great vacations, Im sure my boss will appreciate that I wont be gone for 2 straight weeks, I will have time to chop off my hair that I have been growing out for the wedding, and my fiance will be working 6 hours away from home, so we wont get to see each other much in between our wedding and honeymoon. My TA also recommended that we stay within the same area as our wedding location so we can avoid being stuck in the airport the first day of our honeymoon. We knew we wanted to go somewhere else for our honeymoon, so we were just going to settle with another location in Mexico, but now we get to go somewhere new!
  16. For anyone that has recently gotten married at EDR, did you have any trouble with the resort wedding planner not having the same info as what was confirmed with your planner online? For April 2012 brides, could you please let me know how the meeting with your EDR wedding planner goes? I have read in previous posts that some brides have actually printed off all email correspondance they have had with their wedding planner, because when they got to resort, they were quoted different prices and/or aspects of the wedding they had discussed and planned were incorrect.
  17. Just booked our honeymoon to the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall in Jamaica! My FI needs to get back to work right after our wedding, so we arent going until mid June. What is everyone else doing for your honeymoon?
  18. I wanted to do sky lanterns at our resort and we were told we could not do them because of the fire hazard they posed. A lot of the restaurants and bars have the dried grass palapas roofs, so if a lantern landed on top of the roof, *poof* the structure would basically go up in flames! I completely understand their reasoning, so I would check with your specific hotel on their policy.
  19. Thanks! *fingers crossed* it turns out well! I figured even if the waves arent as well done, it's white on white so it cant look too bad! Our colors are cobalt blue and tiffany blue (the color of the cake ribbon).
  20. We are only doing a small cutting cake, but they are modeling it off of the middle tear of this cake.
  21. We are having Lomas Weddings do the centerpieces. I believe they are $120 each, which includes set up, vase rental, candles, and flower petals for 3 vases per table. We are having 7 tables, so we just couldnt see us traveling with 21 large glass vases!
  22. MsHuth- We are bringing a photographer with us from home that is a good friend of ours. Because she is staying at the hotel for at least 3 nights at the resort, they waived the vendor fee. We are using an outside vendor for our DJ and that fee is $800, but even the $800 + dj services, its still less than the vendors they use. My cousin got married at EDR and used Claudia Photography, an approve vendor, so no fee. I have read several reviews on this site about her work and my cousins pics turned our great.
  23. I had a difficult time deciding on our center pieces as I wanted some simple, fairly low in height so people didnt feel like they had to duck around them to talk to the person across from them, and were a decent price for what we were getting. We settled on this, but with white rose petals. Our table cloths are a satin tiffany blue color so I think the white will definitely make the tiffany blue stand out.
