  1. I had asked him to lighten it up a bit with some highlights and I think he basically just put bleach all over the top parts of my hair and then left it on for about 25 minutes. When I spoke with the owener of the salon today, they said they would soak it in a toner again, but use a darker toner, so I would still have the dimensions and some highlights, but they would be toned down. I asked if it might be better to actually put darker "highlights" in it and he said that he thought it would be healthier for my hair to use the toner and that it would darken everything up a bit. I am very worried that it might still be too blonde, but now more so that they will make it too dark! I never wanted anything drastic and I have been going to this salon for over a year and have gotten highlights from them before. The stylist knew my wedding was coming up so I am not sure why he ever thought that I wanted a drastic change! With having to take my dog to the vet tomorrow, finish last minute packing/wedding stuff, and now going back in for my hair appt... I am so nervous/anxious I think I am giving myself an ulcer! Ugh i just need to get down to Mexico and relax!... hopefully with hair that makes me feel pretty again and doesnt make me cry
  2. Yea i spent about 30 minutes on the phone last night crying to my mom, but I am scheduled to go in tomorrow morning. *fingers crossed* that they can make me happier... and yes they did charge me $180... needless to say I will definitely not being giving them anything tomorrow Quote: Originally Posted by AllieH oh no!!!!!! 3. If you have never gotten a Brazilian then I wouldnt get my first one the day before my wedding. I get so sensitive that I dont want anything near that area for a couple of days! I used to get brazilians in college and people say you get used to them so they dont hurt as badly... well I didnt and still dont! I spoke with my waxer about 2months before our wedding and we devised a plan... We did a general bikini wax at about the 7 weeks out point, then did a brazilian less than a week before we leave, so about 12 days before the wedding. So far so good!
  4. SO i went to get some highlights in my hair last night since I am a dark blonde and thought it would be nice to have it be a tad lighter... they basically bleached a majority of my head!!! After I almost burst into tears at the salon, they used toner to try and add some color back since I was already their last appointment, but after I got home, I spent a good amount in tears The change in hair color is so drastic I dont even look like myself! Unfortunately the entire salon is doing hair today for an off-site fashion show so they cant fix it today. I am really hoping they can squeeze me in on Saturday since we leave on Sunday, but I am so nervous that they wont be able to fix it enough... 2 days before you leave for your wedding is not the time to be feeling like you are not pretty
  5. We ordered personalized fans from theknot.com to put on everyone's chair at the ceremony and I LOVE how they turned out! We got the tiffany blue silk fans with our names "engraved" into the wood of the fan. The forecast is saying it's going to be 86 and sunny on our wedding day so I am sure that our guests will appreciated them! They are nice enough that I know I will make sure I keep one handy for any other outdoor weddings i go to! When they are folded up, they are pretty slim as well so they didnt take up a lot of suitcase space. We orderd 40 of them and they would take up about a half of a shoe box to give you a size reference. Check on the fans section of theknot.com. They always have great sales and you can generally find a coupon if you google "theknot.com coupon" LOL. http://weddingshop.theknot.com/catalog/searchresults.aspx?search=fan
  6. We ordered our invitations and wedding programs from Wedding Paper Divas. They were great in helping me design exactly what we wanted! Our Invitations: Reply cards: Our wedding programs (the same design concept, but we got our programs on a pearlized paper): Inside programs: (Originally, they said I couldnt put anything on the back, but after I explained that I hated having the "Thank you" and "In memory of" underneath teh Wedding party headline, they put those 2 paragraphs on the back in a smaller, italic font in the tiffany blue).
  7. I am not a big bow person and didnt want to spend $4 per chair for a 20 minute ceremony, so I used these as my inspiration to add a little color and creativity to our ceremony: I will be sure to post some of my actual decor when we get back from wedding.
  8. My mom used a fine tip blue sharpie for the "Riviera Maya" and wedding date, then she had to use a brush to paint the "Mexico" because every tiffany or aqua colored paint pen or sharpie dried too dark.We did some trial runs and also used a fine tip silver paint pen, but it dried into a dark grey, so my poor mom hand painted the Mexico to make me happy with the color
  9. Thanks! My mom actually did all of the writing, as well as the calligraphy on our wedding invites. Maybe you could look into having a calligrapher write on them?
  10. Thanks! My mom wrote on them, but I think she used a fine tip blue sharpie for the "Riviera Maya" and wedding date and she actually had to paint the Mexico because the tiffany blue colored sharpie went on the correct color, but turned a dark teal once it settled in.
  11. We got engaged on January 3, 2011 and since I grew up in a beach town, I knew I couldnt imagine doing a traditional church wedding, but the question was: "Do we have the wedding in my home town or should we do a destination wedding?" While attending my cousin's wedding at the El Dorado Royale in 2010 in which my fiance was not able to attend, I found myself constantly saying to myself "Jeff would love this beach, dinner, resort, etc..." so I am sooo excited that I get to share that with him at our wedding! Neither myself or my fiance are very religious and both love the beach so we are getting married in the sand at Gazebo 55 (When we get our pictures back, I will post my actual ceremony set up) Since I am a foot shorter than my fiance, we are getting the wooden runner so that I will be able to wear wedges without sinking into the sand:
  12. After seeing all of the great ideas on this message board in the past year and a half, I thought I would do a planning thread!
  13. I just finished these last night! Here are our place cards finished: And here is a pic of the guests' place cards before I put the tags and ornament ribbon on them:
  14. I just finished putting these together tonight! These are our place cards: These are the guests place cards for our guests before I put the ribbon and tag on them:
  15. I will post pics later this week or possibly after we get back of our place cards but we wrote "Mexico" in the middle of them, "Riviera Maya" across the top arch and "May 12, 2012" across the bottom arch. The WC said that we needed to differentiate what food each guest was having, so we are doing a dark blue ribbon/ornament string for people getting steak and an aqua green for people getting fish. We decided not to write names directly on them because we had a couple of Julie's and Ryan's and we didnt want to put last names on them either since some of my GFs will obviously not always have that last name lol. I made name tags on card stock paper with the guest's full names and table number. Then I just hole punched one end and put the ribbon through them. Actually pretty easy! Congrats! My wedding isn't at El Dorado until February, but I'm already trying to get a head start on all these little details. Anyways, not sure If i want to try writing names on them or just attaching a card to the sand dollars instead. Any help would be much appreciated!
  16. We are getting married at the El Dorado Royale (gourmet all inclusive) in Riviera Maya, Mexico and our guest cost breakdown is: Flights ranged from $300 to $600 depending on when the guests purchased them and where they were flying from in the U.S. For lowest category room (everyone in our group is staying in these rooms): For 4 nights (majority of our guests are staying for nights): 1 person: $860 per person 2 people: $660 per person
  17. Thanks for everyone's well wishes! I'm hoping that by the time we leave, she is back to her old self again! So I still have a few things I need to do between now and Saturday *eeks!* Write welcome letter: my fiance gave a stab at this one... needless to say, it needs some tweaking LOL Pack OOT bag items: this is is making me nervous. I feel like I kept things to a minimum, but all of the stuff is sitting on our dining room table and I cant bring myself to start packing it because I dont want to know how many bags its going to take! Finish pulling together the rehearsal dinner and cocktail hour playlists: shouldnt be too difficult Put ceremony music in order on iPod Put together our sand dollar ornament place cards: I just need to match up the colored ribbon with the meal the guest ordered then put the ribbon through all of the sand dollars Burn cd to give to videographer Print off important Lomas correspondence emails Finish up wedding party wedding day schedule Write send off email: we are going to send an email out Saturday evening to our guests (most arent coming down until Tuesday or Wednesday) with last minute reminders and well wishes Write vows: I think I have a pretty good idea of what I want to say, but I just need to write it all out. I am a big quote person, so I think I am going to use a quote or two that expresses how I feel and then enhance it a bit. I dont think my fiance's will all that long or in depth (he's not a natural romantic, but he tries in his own cute ways) Also, completely off topic but is anyone doing a pre-wedding boudoir photo shoot?
  18. So I have been dosing her with dramamine to stop the dizziness and off balance-ness and *knock on wood* she seems to be doing much better this morning! Let's hope she continues improving!
  19. So this is sorta off topic, but I need a place to let this out... My childhood dog is 14 and lives with my fiance and I, well late last night, she started having really bad issues, like she can barely walk and her eyes are dart back and forth... It could be something that she will just get over (Vestibular syndrome- an inner ear thing common in older dogs) or it could be something else. I am so busy with wedding stuff and work this week and my fiance is out of town for work, so I have just been trying to monitor her, but she seemed better this morning and much worse when I got home from work. She has an appointment with the vet this Saturday but I am so nervous to leave her in the care of our dog sitter because if she gets worse and maybe even passes while I am away, I will feel so guilty she had to go through everything on her own. I also dont want to put my dog sitter in a terrible position either... I dont know what to do, but it is making me way more anxious and sick to my stomach than normal circumstances one should be having a week before they leave for their wedding. With her being so old, every time she gets sick, I wonder if it's going to be "the time".
  20. It appears as if Valeria is checking her emails while away as she sent me back an email letting me know she would update my spreadsheet today and answer all of my questions later this evening. Phew!
  21. So we leave early this Sunday morning and because of the last minute guest cancellations, there are still a couple of things that need to be confirmed on our spreadsheet as well as some questions I have that need to be answered. Valeria sent me a couple of emails yesterday and I responded immediately, but I have not heard from her since. I emailed her today as I am getting antsy to have everything finalized and I got an out of office response!!! Apparently, she and the entire Lomas Wedding office our out of the office for the week visiting resorts... 1) Shouldnt she tell the brides she is working with, especially those with weddings in the next couple of weeks, that she will be out? 2) What am I going to do?!
  22. The only important opinion on this one is that you feel how you want to feel on your wedding day while wearing this dress. If you are feeling that you wont feel like a bride in it, then perhaps you should look for another option that makes you feel that way. If you are fine with having a short dress and you feel like a confident bride, then stick with the short dress. It is a beach wedding so a short dress wouldnt be weird, but you dont want to look back on your wedding a regret not wearing a long dress if you are feeling anxious about it even before the wedding.
  23. We are registered; however, I have found that a majority of the presents we have received are from people that ARE attending the wedding. I can only think of 3 or 4 presents that we have received from people that cant make it to Mexico. For my fiance and I, if we are invited to a wedding, we give a substantial gift, especially if we cannot go; however, I dont think a lot of people see if that way. I think a lot of people that we invited are thinking "I'm off the hook for getting them a present since I cant make it to their wedding." It is a little frustrating because we wouldnt dream of not giving someone a wedding present that invited us to their wedding and we bought nice wedding gifts for friends of that have previously gotten married but cant make it down to our wedding, but with only a week until our wedding and less than half of our registry fulfilled, I dont think they are all of a sudden going to get us a gift, especially since I suspect some of them brushed off the idea of our wedding once they saw DW on the save the date. Luckily, Bed Bath and Beyond keeps your registry on file for a year so when Christmas rolls around, I will steer people that direction so we can complete some of our sets.
  24. Stina, What specific emails/topics of emails do you suggest bringing down? We have been working with Valeria with DWs.com for over a year, so I dont want to kill too many trees!
  25. Hi Leigh! I am getting married at the El Dorado Royale and they have VERY reasonable prices for a private reception. The only costs associated with a private reception at EDR are the dinner plates per person. We opted for the filet mignon with lobster tail at $26 per person and that includes, salad, dessert, and open bar for 4 hours. From what I have seen on this message board, it appears to be on the lowest price point I have seen. My cousin got married at EDR 2 years ago and she had the same dinner at her reception and it was FANTASTIC so dont be afraid that cheap = poor quality at EDR. I think they are one of the only all inclusive resorts that seem to realize that guests have essentially already paid for their dinner, so there isnt a need for a pricey per plate dinner.Let me know if you have any more specific questions about EDR, but I am so grateful we decided on this place! The resort in Jamaica where we are going for our honeymoon charges a flat fee of a couple thousand dollars just to have a private reception and then the resort adds on a $70 per person dinner fee. NO THANKS!
