  1. Laurie Congrats! I hear that Paradisus Varadero is beautiful! I guarantee it will be amazing. Have you been to Cuba before? The places that we took our pictures were Al Capone's, 53 street and ended at the DuPont Mansion. I recommend all of these places. For TTD, go to DuPont! Renting the cars is an awesome idea, I think it runs about $50.00 an hour. We did tip the people where we took the pictures. I, in no way felt uncomfortable out in my wedding dress. The local Cubans loved it! Smiles and congrats from everyone. No, our guests could not hear out vows, that sucked. Plus they didn't tell us that we could write our own, otherwise we would have.fore If you look at my profile I uploaded some pics, check it out. If you have any questions let me know.
  2. The wedding planner at the Melia is Karina (she rocks and knows her stuff) I was in touch with her long before the wedding. When we arrived at the hotel Karina met us and check us in immediately, along with my parents. The room that Karina upgraded us to was amazing! It was the biggest and nicest room I've ever seen ( could very well compare to a 5 star in Vegas). The next day Karina and spoke and arranged the wedding details. The Melia has a gazebo that was just built late last year, I decided on having the ceremony there instead of on the beach more private. Karina decorated the gazebo with tulle, flowers and rose petals. I supplied my walkout music, there was no issue with them playing it. It was perfect. After the ceremony we rented a bus and went into town and took pictures. I brought my own photographers from Edmonton. The pictures turned out amazing. I paid extra and had one of the a la cartes all to myself, LOL plus my guests. In total we had 50 people. Again Karina decorated the restaurant, it was beautiful. I did bring a few things to decorate from Edmonton. During the meal which was amazing, no complaints from anyone, everyone raved about the dinner, they provided live music! We did have the normal speeches, cake, and we brought our own music, playlist, for our first dance and for the dance that went till mid. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me, I can also show you some of the pictures.
  3. Hello I was just married in Cuba last month at the Melia Las Americas! Ask me anything I would be glad to answer any questions you have. Sheryl
  4. I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this one question. After the dinner there comes the dance..... at least I'm hoping. Do the Cubans supply equipment to use and you have to bring your own music ( on your computer)? Or is it possible to hire "DJ" for this to be accomplished? This is the only part of the wedding I'm really stressing about. Any input would be awesome.
  5. What I did is found the hotel information and emailed them. The wedding planner got back to me within a week or so. I was informed that April is busiest time in Cuba at the resorts and they book up quickly. It is due to the notary's schedule. I had to settle for an early ceremony time, this I'm not to pleased with, it's going to be way to hot, LOL. Oh and having your wedding on the weekend is twice the price from what I was told.
  6. Just reading an older post on this forum about bringing photographers to Cuba for weddings. Has anyone had any recent experiences with this? Is this allowed? I'm a little worried since I have booked and paid for my photographers for my wedding next year.
  7. Which Melia? There is three. I have just booked at the Melia Las Americas.
  8. I have booked the Melia Las Americas for my wedding 2012 April.
