  1. I HIGHLY recommend Gonzalo Nunez! His work is amazing and he is awesome to work with!
  2. I completely agree! I had so many people say negative comments to me and it is all just because they were uneducated to the area. There are safety risks no matter where you go, and you should always use common sense, but for the most part Cancun and Riviera Maya are safe. The resorts are their money makers down there and so they keep those areas pretty safe. You should have no issues switching resorts...I know several people that have done this with no issues.
  3. The only thing I can say is have a seating chart or print something with their names on it and have it at their seat. I gave my guests 3 options and I didn't even think about how they know who ordered what food. I didn't have a seating chart or have their names at their seat but it all seemed to work out. I also only had 15 others with us so I guess it wouldn't chaotic like a bigger wedding. Regarding emailing Pilar, I would just email her until she answers regarding the DJ. She put me in contact with the DJ and they sent me an email with a list to fill out for songs. Since you didn't get a confirmation then best I can say is just keeping emailing her until she answers. Since you wedding is next week I would think she would respond. She got better responding once it got closer to my date.
  4. No worries. Trust me I know that it is frustrating. I would always give her a week and if she didn't answer that I would send another email to follow up. Obviously, the big stuff you need to know and the details will come together. For the most part, she gets better as it gets closer to your date. The language barrier can be a little tough too.
  5. I didn't have my reception in the bamboo room but I know that I got my numbers from a girl who did. I had 30 paper lanterns in sizes ranging from 8-10 inches to 18-20 inches. Hope that helps!
  6. I don't disagree I was just trying to ease everyone's minds. This site was so helpful for me when I wasn't getting answers directly form Pilar. She would always answer just sometimes it took awhile to hear a response, which is when this site became very helpful. I wasn't trying to say you don't deserve a response just trying to help future brides since I was going through the same thing when I was planning my wedding. Sorry if I offended you.
  7. I had maraca's sent directly to the resort but they were already coming from Mexico. Everything else is best to come with you because if you send something it could get stuck in customs.
  8. Future Brides ~ I know it is frustrating that Pilar takes forever to respond but TRUST me...she knows what she is doing. You will go over everything with her once you are down there and it will all turn out beautifully. They do 2 weddings/day plus can do a vow renewal also so they are ridiculously busy! The wedding coordinators get to the resort around 9am every day and I would see Pilar still there at 11:30pm! This is every single day for them. I was frustrated before I got down there but once I did I realized I was in very good hands!
  9. Any where on the resort you can use American Dollars. I am pretty sure any of the shops/excursions take american money but if not, I think the resort has somewhere you can convert your money.
  10. Whatever you bring with you they will set up however you tell them to. I brought table runners with me, too. I would assume it would be an extra charge if you wanted candles on the table but I'm not sure how much. I brought a wooden letter for everyone to sign instead of a guest book and they put candles on that table (I didn't even request that!) I think that when they are setting everything up, if something looks like it needs a little more they will add it at no additional cost. Hope that helps!
  11. Everything is absolutely beautiful!! I think you could rock an awesome pair of earrings and a bracelet. I don't think you will go wrong with anything you decide!
  12. My reception was at Castaways. It has a covered roof but the sides are open. I was worried it would be too hot but you get a nice breeze and it actually never bothered any of us. I don't think that you can go wrong with either location though!
  13. I actually didn't use the private transfers so I was able to get the trial for free. I was supposed to only get either the hair or makeup trial free but ended up not having to pay for either. I made sure to tip well since I didn't pay! Hopefully Pilar will let you do this but based on what I have seen lately she isn't letting anyone really swap things out. Good luck!
  14. I had my make up done at the spa. I am VERY particular with my makeup and I would say that she did okay. I brought a lot of my own stuff for her to use (she has a ton of stuff though) and I kind of added to it once I got back to my room. I wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis so I didn't think that she put enough on. I highly suggest foundation for pics because it will give you a more finished look but stay away from bare minerals because that tends to look not so great in photos. You can always do a trial a day or 2 before the wedding to see if what she does is what you would want for the wedding. I did a trial hair and makeup run the day before the wedding that way I knew what to expect!
  15. Yes, you will be upgraded to preferred. We had already booked an oceanfront room so they didn't upgrade our room but we were given all of the "perks" of being preferred.
  16. This is the same form I received. It probably isn't a huge deal if you didn't get the form...just make sure that you have the songs you want either on a cd or an ipod. The DJ should have most of the songs you want unless they aren't well known so it's good to have them with you. Copia de Formato DJ.xls
  17. I had Pilar and Deisy was the assistant. Both were awesome...Deisy was the one in charge of everything the day of and she was so helpful and super nice. Trust me...everything will be fine once you are the resort. You will have your meeting and go over everything for your wedding and you will be set!
  18. Pilar handled everything with the DJ for me. She emailed the DJ and then he emailed me with a form to fill out. I didn't bring the menus, the wedding coordinators printed them for me and didn't even tell me they were doing them. I'm not sure if this is something they do all of the time though. If you want them, either ask them to print them or bring them yourself.
  19. If you want an outdoor reception but think the terrace will be too small you can have it at Castaways. It is outdoors but has a roof. My reception was booked for the terrace but due to possible rain they switched it to castaways. The space is plenty big and has a seperated space for the dance floor! Either way though you can't go wrong...all of the reception options are nice!
  20. They will cut the music music down. I had a song playing while everyone was being seated and they just phased it out so that they could start the song that I walked down the aisle to. Once I was down the aisle they phased that song out too. Just tell them what songs (and maybe even have them on a cd or ipod) and they will handle it for you.
  21. Not sure about the wine but I can say that it is not worth paying for a bartender. I can assure you that your guests will not have to leave the reception to get a drink. The waiters are very good at keeping the drinks coming!
  22. We had a reception at home. I only invited about 50 people to the actual wedding but we had about 300 invited to the reception at home. I sent out std and invites for the wedding (wish I would have just done invites tho) and then I sent out seperate invites for the reception. Oour reception at home was about a month and a half after the wedding so those invites got sent out right before we left for Mexico.
  23. We only had one long table so there was no need for table numbers but they did print menus for me. I didn't even ask for them and she never told me that they were going to do it...I just saw them once we got to the reception and thought it was a nice little surprise!
  24. Oh my I felt like I was planning 2 weddings too. I don't want to sound ungrateful but the reception here wasn't at all what I wanted so I am so glad it is over. It was turned out good...again nothing that I really wanted (and the venue would not have been what I picked if we had a wedding here!) but I guess on the budget that we had it was good! Speaking of picking our dresses I picked a dress because my mom and sisters loved it and I ended up hating it! I was that crazy bride that bought a different dress because I cried when the original one came in! I bought it and didn't tell my mom and sisters for a little bit and of course they were mad when I said I got a different dress. I am so glad that I did though because I absolutely HATED the first dress! Oh the things we do for family!
  25. It's funny that it is your wedding but yet you have to make compromises! haha whoever said weddings were about the bride and groom were wrong!
