  1. It was all about the accessories trunk show and finding the jewelry lol otherwise I would have waited until July or August I think. Even then I was willing to hold off on starting the alterations, but she was happy to move forward. She said my dress will be fine if I lose up to 20lbs - I still can go down 2 sizes with the corset back. She said if I drop 50lbs or something, then we'd have to make more alterations which would cost more. Yeah - I don't think I'll lose the 20...much less the 50!!!! I will take some pics of the jewelry tomorrow when the lighting is better. I think the cocktail should count as a private event. Let me go through my emails and see what her exact wording was when I asked the question (it was before we confirmed we wanted a private dinner).
  2. Jill - that's true. As long as 80% of the guests are staying at EDR. I have it in my emails from Natalia. I did my fitting for my dress yesterday and also found my jewelry. I decided to ditch my sash & matching flower I bought - it didn't work as well once I had the dress on. I also found out my lovely turquoise wedges aren't as comfortable as I thought they would be. UGH. I'm going to hem the dress to flats anyway, so I might wear them just for the ceremony & pictures, then switch to sandals for dinner/reception. So the plan is I go back for a fitting in a month to see the changes to the bodice (soft sweetheart, adding gel cups to hold up the girls and fitting it to me). She'll wait to do the hem until later in the year. And my friend who went with me to the fitting offered to throw me a shower. I was shocked, and delighted! My 2nd errand yesterday was hitting the paper store to find paper for the sash for our invitations. Found a perfect match in a handmade Japanese paper, and then ordered paper to make the envelope liners. Now I need to find some perfect patterned paper for the pinwheels for our centerpieces. Checked a couple of items off of my list anyway!! Stina - are you back? Have you recovered?
  3. Hi ladies! I bought this gorgeous sash and matching hair flower, and have now decided not to wear it for my Nov 2012 wedding. I paid $80 for the pair, and the seller increased her prices after I purchased them. The sash is a wide ivory satin ribbon, very long so you can trim to your needed length. The flowers are silk and organza in ivory, champagne and taupe. The flower section measures 5" high x 9" wide. There are rhinestones & pearls in the centers. The hair flower doesn't have the rhinestones in the center, but otherwise is the same. I don't have a great pic of the hair flower.
  4. Who can blame you? Heck, I was the one chatting with Lomas at work, and my wedding is still 6 months out. So soon now for you!!!!!!!
  5. congrats on your marriage! your pics are gorgeous - love the dress!
  6. she wouldn't give me a quote. she said I'd have to ask Natalia, and it was based on the size of the cake.
  7. I chatted with Claudia today and asked about these. She said that EDR doesn't allow them b/c of the number of structures they have with the palapa roofs that can easily catch on fire. She said to ask your WC again though, so she can check again with the resort. I also learned that we can do a red velvet, carrot or hazelnut cake - for an extra charge depending on the size of the cake. And they can do buttercream frosting. I'm thinking if we do a couple of smaller cakes vs. a tiered wedding cake, we can get the buttercream. I'd rather do that than have a crappy fondant cake anyway. She also talked with Natalia about the sheers hanging in Tucanes - gave me an outrageous price of $600 for 4 - 2 white and 2 colors based on the labor to hang them. Well, at least I know the price tag now. So proof is the chat feature works if you're impatient like I am, waiting to hear from your WC..
  8. I like the idea of breakfast in bed the day OF the wedding. that's a good idea! geez, what would I do without you gals? I think muesli is some sort of oat/granola/cereal thing. that's what the pics looked like when I googled it. I guess we could try to find our own floating/water lanterns - a quick google/ebay search didn't reveal anything that looked very pretty though. I'll keep looking though.
  9. I would have loved to do the chinese lanterns too. But we'll survive without them. So I finally received my spreadsheet with the services that will be the final invoice. Oy. Anyone have any feedback on the floating lanterns for beside the Tucanes pool? $75 for 4 is crazy, but it might be a nice touch? Anyone have their make up done there? I was shocked to see make up cost as much as the hairstyle (which is expensive, but I'll deal with that). Not sure it's worth it (hair, yes. but make up?!) Also - are their only cake flavors really chocolate, strawberry and vanilla?? As a self-proclaimed cake fanatic, I'm less than excited about the boring flavors. what's the deal with the breakfast in bed? there's a specific menu? can't we just order from room service...? Jill & I are commisserating about the lack of answers from Natalia. We're getting emails back (slowly), but not answering the specific questions we've posed.
  10. ok so this sucks. I'm so sorry!! aw Stina, I'm sorry you are headed back already, but can't wait to hear about your wedding and your stay!! I'm a tipper. Usually about a dollar per drink or every couple of drinks (assuming they are pretty small at the AI). I have always tipped extra on cruise ships, and it almost always results better service the rest of the trip (cruise ships already add a tip automatically, but I give cash too). It's worth it to me to take a bunch of singles to pass out. I usually will tip housekeeping too if they've kept our room clean and are responsive to any requests (we usually need extra towels like crazy people). On the ships, we would tip our room steward $20 the first day, and he took care of everything. While AI is different than a cruise, I will probably stick with what I've found to work...and go from there. If I tip a waiter/bartender and he/she is slow, well then I won't be tipping him or her again! As far as the wedding vendors - I will tip my photographers (friends), and the day-of/onsite coordinator assume she does her job well. Probably our bartenders and wait staff too for the reception/dinner.
  11. oh that's a great site - thanks for sharing!! what size did you get, do you remember? are they big enough to stuff a towel, book and sunscreen in?
  12. wow - gorgeous pics!!!!! I love your dress, and your wedding looks like it was a blast.
  13. I'm not sure if I really want to drape the gazebo at all honestly. I've got two orange parasols that I'll use on it, and aqua & orange paper lanterns too. here's what I was referring to: I just love how that changes the roof and makes it more like a tent. this is still set up for a ceremony, but I'd love to know if they can do that to tucanes for a reception. and how much it'd cost... lol that combined with the lanterns would be gorgeous.
  14. Hi Monique! welcome to the Roll Call. I love Key West - my FI's mom lives there. What a great place for a DW!!!
  15. Well my FI's passport came, so we can officially go to Mexico for the wedding. And Natalia finally, finally confirmed that Tucanes became available for our reception. Two big items checked off!! I noticed in a couple of the Lomas Miscellaneous gallery pics (http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/gallery/photo.php?category_gallery=Ceremonies) there are a few pics of fabric draped at the reception venues. Have any of you asked about pricing for that? I'm guessing it's exhorbant, given their pricing for a few yards of fabric for the gazebo... but dang, it's gorgeous!!!
  16. I go to the salon - I'm just not talented enough to paint my own durn nails in a pretty way lol it's UV cured, so if you get one of the lamps at home, buy the supplies, you can do it at home. For me, it's a nice hour to myself every other week without the FI.
  17. YAY!! You have to be healthy. You leave TOMORROW! Wishing you all the best Stina, and can't wait to hear/see all about your lovely wedding. If/when you get caught up when you get back, we should meet up for lunch one weekend.
  18. I really wanted one from her too, but I ordered a pair of earrings from a seller in Israel back in November. They never made it to me due to errors with the US Post Office (the website said they tried to deliver but I was never home - I never, ever received so much as notification that I needed to pick it up or sign for it or whatever). Finally in January or February we agreed to write off the earrings and I gave up. So I'm extremely nervous about ordering anything from Israel. Those were just $20 earrings, not $150 cake toppers.
  19. thank you! and time is ticking fast. hope you get some relief from the allergies before you head out. seriously? for $42? I'd pack a small bottle of acetone, triple wrapped and deal with it myself for that cost. While I'm not in chlorine or salt water day-in/day-out, my hands are always wet (I'm sort of a freak about washing my hands), and I've never had discoloration. Well, except for a little reddish on the edges b/c I just got my hair colored!! lol
