  1. well then some things are just meant to be, right?? Crossing fingers for you on the dress. 3 weeks!!!! not long at all. I feel the same way you do about the TripAdvisor reviews - most of the time I read the negative ones just to have an idea of what to expect, so I can be prepared. I get that not everything will be 100% perfect. I wondered about bringing a cheapo raft with us. Also thought about a few beach balls for pool games. I guess I should search the sale aisles now for those. We aren't booked in a swim up, but I'm hoping for an upgrade. And even better, it was listed for $100 less than David's price and even included free shipping! That was my sign, so I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival to my door! The dress isn't real big so taking two down and using the old one for a TTD session would work out good. Maybe I can get it cleaned up good enough to sell when we get home too! Thanks for the suggestions ladies We're down to three weeks before take off ! I think I can honestly say I've never been more excited for anything in my life! My FI and I have been on TripAdvisor.com reading people's reviews of the resort and looking at pictures they have posted. Some people really dog the resort but it makes you wonder if they're the kind of people who can never be pleased in life, and others offer really good tips and advice (like packing floats or rafts if you're staying in a swim up). 2. With the guest book, you could do different colored or shaped note cards of a sort. Check out Paper Source's different options - I have square scallop edged cards for instance. Then using a cheap frame from Michael's (or whichever craft store is near you), jazz it up a bit, use white card stock and frame the particular card for each year. Then on the glass itself, with either a sharpie or dry erase marker you can put "advise for the newlyweds on their 1 year anniversary" and so on. so it could be blue squares = 1 year, white circles = 5 years, etc. we went with a favor that is an ornament for the christmas tree, and wind chimes for our parents (his mother doesn't celebrate christmas, so no tree!). they are small enough to easily transport down there. you have the 100 guests, right? what about going to the market in Mexico and getting maracas there? or whatever else you might find...?
  3. making great progress!!! and you're lucky - the hair do and make up at your resort are pretty reasonable. I won't tell you the nutso rates they are charging me. Ahh...paying for my resort choice now lol what's your first dance song?? what type of dance is it? Bridesmaids and groomsmen are in the process of picking out their dresses/shirts Groom's suit should be coming in any day now Wedding dress is in process Taking our 3rd dance lesson this week for our First Dance )))) As for flowers/decor/etc., I think that all gets decided shortly before the wedding, but I have an idea of what I want for flowers, so hopefully that'll be easy. Our final payments are due at check-out, together with all the other fees. Also planning to do a religious ceremony locally next month for the relatives that can't make it, so working on that a bit too, although luckily mother in law is handling that event!
  4. WOOHOO! It's my turn!!!!!! Dee - I'll go ahead and PM you my address.
  5. YAY for checking things off the list! I've lost my DIY mojo. Every time I try to sit in my craft room and work on some of the stuff I have left, I just stare at it, and am not happy with anything I put together lol Hopefully it comes back in the next couple of weeks. I've paid my photog as well, and our favors finally shipped out yesterday (I ordered them 2 months ago). Our final payment is due this week for our room, so the money tree has been printing bills off like there's no tomorrow! And work is a beast, so that's been taking up most of my time and energy these days. I'm just ready to be in Mexico, enjoy the resort, get hitched, and relax. Anyone else?
  6. How's the planning coming ladies??
  7. The cellophane bags and vellum envelopes have been sold. The tags are still available: 50 bright yellow small tags (2.75" x 1.5") $5 50 light pink small tags (2.75" x 1.5") $5 50 (each) red, blue & green large tags (4.75" x 2.25") $7 per 50
  8. oh no!!!! If you're that unhappy with it, and you can afford another dress, I would do it. I agree with you - I wouldn't want to put on my wedding dress and not be happy with it. Quote: Originally Posted by ONEILL12 I need some opinions, ladies! My grandma's good friend did my dress alterations for me. She's been sewing for years and does a lot of wedding alterations. I picked up my dress from her yesterday and its TOO SHORT! I've been holding back the tears . I couldn't bring myself to say anything to her because she's not charging anything for her work and her and my grandma both just thought it looked perfect when I tried it on. I thought maybe I was just over reacting and I knew if I told her I was unhappy my grandma would feel so guilty. When she measured it for me I was barefoot since that is how I will be for our wedding and she pinned it perfectly. I wanted it to still cover my feet but not be long enough to step on. Now you can see the tops of my feet while standing still and my ankles when I walk. I went straight to my MILs house when I left with my dress for her opinion and she agreed that it was too short but didn't think it was short enough for people to really notice it. There is no material left in the hem to let it out and its chiffon so adding material to it wouldn't work either without changing the look of the dress. My FI said I should go buy another dress and have it redone by another person if I'm that unhappy with it. Luckily, David's Bridal stocks my dress in store and the cost of two dresses would still be cheaper than what some people pay for just one dress. After sleeping on it, I don't know that I want to put my wedding dress on and be unhappy with it in any way. We are 28 days out until the wedding and 25 until we leave so I need to be making my decision soon! Am I over reacting? And am I crazy to go buy another dress??
  9. welcome to the group!!!! we are doing the pick & choose dinner. we chose the spicy scallops as the appetizer from the pick & choose lunch menu, the pork chop and surf & turf as entrees from the dinner menu (plus a pasta dish for our vegetarian guests), and the tres leches cake from the lunch menu as the dessert. and cupcakes instead of a wedding cake.
  10. great photos!!! coats and all lol Savannah is such a cool city too, very neat place to have a wedding!!
  11. I found The Bridal Box - a brick & mortar store in CA that will sell them to you via the internet. You may want to call and see if they have any in stock first. If they are out of stock, it can take them (and any retailer apparently) a while to get them back in. http://store.thebridalbox.net/bjstarfish.html
  12. Well, I think we have our group and final number - 42, including us. I'm thrilled with that!! However...today's inconsiderate invitee vent: My poor FI is dealing with his jerk father, who is claiming he had no idea he'd have to make payment on Friday. Never mind that he's avoided my FI's calls, hasn't returned them, and didn't answer my FI's grandparents when they tried to talk to him about it too. We've done all we can. Ugh, I just hate that he's jerking my FI around like this and trying to turn it around like we haven't told him the info. Same guy who asked my FI a few months ago if we wanted to wait 3 years to get married. Yeah, supportive guy. The reality is I'm relieved he isn't going - and my FI probably is too. I just hate that he's being such a prick about it. /vent How is everyone else??
  13. gorgeous rings ladies! I love how they are all so unique, and yet still beautiful. congrats on your engagements. happy wedding planning!
  14. MsT - I'm sorry. I know it's tough to get over these "friend" situations. It's not really a consolation, but I think it's happened to all of us DW brides. Just let time & maybe even some distance heal it over. We sent our formal invites out in late July, with RSVPs due Sept 1st. Our wedding is Nov 5th. I have about half of them (20) back now for the people who are going (and just 3 or 4 back from those who aren't going with us). And of the ones who have sent them back, several didn't indicate their entree choice, so we had to follow up with them anyway!
  15. VERY gorgeous dress!! and way to find a deal too. smart...!!!!!!
  16. My dress has a chapel train, so we'll be futzing with it during the ceremony & photos. I'll bustle it for the recept too - though I don't envy my mom or friend who gets to crawl under my dress lol
  17. thank you!!! and yes - I'm excited about our food lol I realized after the fact I should have just put "beef" or "pork" and then saved the details as a nice surprise. Ah well...hindsight is 20/20!
  18. Thank you!!!! You are so sweet. Amanda of Little Bean Shop on etsy did the design. She's a good friend of mine, and has done all of my wedding designs. In general, no, she isn't expensive at all - she does my holiday cards every year and they are a steal. Check out some of her designs in her shop - she can take an idea and customize it for you too. She's very creative! It took some time to put them together. I'd do an hour or two here and there after work for a week or so, and then most of a Saturday to finish it off. I did it assembly line style so I could do a step at a time - that made it easier to pick up and put down as I needed.
