El Dorado Royale
AllieH replied to Aisha2013's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I'm an EDR bride, getting married there in November (2012). Past brides have given the food great reviews (and that's one of the reasons we chose EDR), and the resort is gorgeous. I don't think any of the recent EDR brides have chosen the chapel, but it is a beautiful setting. Here's a wiki from Del Sol Photographers - if you scroll down to Weddings in Maroma Beach & Punta Brava, you'll see several weddings at EDR, including a couple in the chapel. I will see if I can find the photos of the ceremony sites for you that our wedding coordinator sent. I'm not sure if I have them here at home, but I definitely have them at the office and can post them for you tomorrow. -

DIY Cake Toppers
AllieH replied to MissBubbles205's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I love E6000!!! that stuff will work on anything. case in point: my side mirror on my car broke off the housing. I used E6000 to glue that sucker back in there, vs. a $500 replacement. Ok, so it isn't an "automatic" or adjustable mirror anymore, but it still works! lol YES. We would have some fun DIY parties. With wine. -

I finished my place cards last night - DIY of course. 4x3 scrapbook paper, and then the names. I stamped and cut out the shells/starfish, which indicate each guest's entree choice. This is about half of them. Mine is a little crooked, so I'll be remaking that one! lol -

DIY Cake Toppers

no, you're a bride!! we have so freakin many decisions to make, that after a while it all runs together. I swear! hit Michael's or Joann's or Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon for the rhinestones. here's a site with a good graphic for cake size based on the # of guests: http://www.dailyweddingplanningtip.com/wedding-cakes/how-much-wedding-cake-will-you-need/ -
Yes, exactly. scary and exciting!! all of a sudden the time seems to be flying by. it's all good of course, and I'm more excited than freaked out. I can't wait. DIY Cake Toppers
AllieH replied to MissBubbles205's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
I have something similar to this - originally it was going to be a cake topper. I just glued two wooden skewers onto them. The skewers are super cheap, for a bunch of them. Our letter is an "M", so I just glued them behind the straightest of the lines, so they don't peek out. We're doing cupcakes, so instead of a cake topper, I'm going to put it on our card/mad lib basket. -
Amanda, this is how we feel it will go too. Our guests are only there for 3 nights - arrive sometime on Saturday, there all day Sunday, Monday is the wedding, and most leave on Tuesday. We get in the Wednesday before, and leave the following Saturday, so we'll have several days to ourselves before & after the wedding. The two full days we'll have with everyone - we can go over to the Royale side and hang out with them by the pool.

We're at El Dorado Royale. My friend found the cheapest flights going through Miami (ick). But...sometimes it's worth the savings. One of my coworkers freaked me out today - she said "you're getting married in 6 weeks!" holy crap, 6 weeks sounds so SOON. It's sneaking up on me now. Meanwhile my boss is trying to tell me the wedding is off, because he knows it'll be crappy without me there in the office. tough cookies champ! lol

I've heard that brides have been able to bring the dried (dead) starfish in with no problems. I'll have some with me when we leave (oct 31st), and will post if we run into any issues with them.

Attire: what we are wearing.. My dress is Sophia Tolli's Xandra, gorgeous a-line with organza & lace layers, plus beading throughout. it has a chapel train, and while I wanted texture (check), but was looking more for ruffles, or lace. I got the lace..and organza, but totally different from what I envisioned. I love it though!! I've had them do a soft sweetheart for the neckline though. I got a cathedral veil with light beaded edge from eBay venus_veils (bargain hunters unite!) for $34. I figured if I wear it for just a few pics, GREAT. I just am not sure it will work for the ceremony or not. But hey, for that price, who cares? I couldn't justify spending $200 on one with the risk that I may not even wear it for the ceremony. My hair inspiration is this updo: I want to put the veil just above the bun, or below it - not sure which yet. I know I don't want the veil sitting at the crown of my head though - I look like a nun! I hated it that way when the bridal shops put them there..it just didn't work for me. Still working on the make up look. I'm planning to DIY that one, as I can't see paying $90 at the resort for them to do it. One of the artists at Sephora & I are becoming very good friends...so far we've ruled out a black smokey eye (can you say raccoon?!?). I also had a dress label made by Monde Design; I sent her my invites to show her our colors, and she ended up being able to match our font on the invites. Even better, the shop doing my alterations is stitching it into the hem of my dress for no charge (Classy Concepts in Mansfield, TX - local gals, check them out!! Sue and her team ROCK). I can't wait to flip up my hem and show this off lol I have my "mrs" hanger, from etsy seller Handcrafted Affairs Funny enough, opening the hanger was one of my first "OMG I'm getting married" moments. Not the dress, the veil, the crafty stuff, but the hanger with my new last name. Jewelry - I found my necklace, earrings and bracelet at Classy Concepts too (and the orange pin tuck table runners for our dinner/reception!). close up of the earrings: And this headband from etsy seller ChantalEveleen, it matches the bracelet PERFECTLY. I saw the headband first and fell in love with it, so it was karma that the bracelet happened to be the same. Also, my head is apparently shaped weird, and the tied headbands like this will NOT stay on. I have a plain silver hard (traditional?) headband that I'm going to fix this one to so I can be sure it'll stay on my head (one more DIY project) and last but not least, my shoes. I'm a shoe addict to begin with, and shoes have been a big challenge for the wedding. I've bought 4 pairs of shoes in my quest for the "perfect" shoes for my wedding. One pair has been resold to another bride (blue Badgley Mischka Randalls, found on sale at ideeli.com), one pair will be my welcome dinner shoes (found at Kenneth Cole outlet, $35), one pair for the ceremony, and my silver sequin TOMS for the reception. here are my ceremony shoes - Daisy Duke wedges from Stuart Weisman (found on sale at RueLaLa! did I mention I'm a bargain hunter?). Ok, the SW's were still pricey, but half price...which is a deal to me. And they were what I wanted all along! I've worn them to the office a few times to break them in, and they are definitely a shoe I can wear after the wedding. ok, enough about the bride. my handsome groom is wearing a grey Tommy Hilfiger suit from Macy's, which we picked up (you guessed it, on sale!) at Macy's. I think this is the one... We found his tie at bows-n-ties.com - fantastic value, great products. For the life of me I can't remember which one we got him, and he's put it away so it's not like I can even go peek! (boys...!) I think it's this one: We bought my brother & my dad these orange & white ties from the same website: in typical groom fashion, he'll go out and buy a new white shirt and shoes the week before we leave We don't have a bridal party, as we chose not to have the guys and girls spend $$ on a new outfit or dresses - we're just happy they'll be there with us, and we couldn't afford to buy them for them. It also cut out a TON of stress since we didn't have to coordinate this. And that takes care of the fashion show!
