wait - you got a quote for $1,000 from him?!? of course EDR is quoting me $1500 as the standard. I couldn't find any reviews either. I did get a file from Lomas of the songs available, and a spreadsheet to set up the order and any announcements/introductions/toasts. While I'd prefer a DJ with some reviews, I also know it's a gift, and we aren't going to be super picky. if we don't like the music, we'll make him change it. I will also be asking if we can supply additional music, since we have eclectic tastes...and a strict "do not play" list. we had to pay about $400 in order to be sure we had the minimum # of doubles in the room block to get a "free room" credit, so essentially we netted out to about a $500 credit. every little bit helps...

Allie H's EDR (RM, Mexico) 11-5-2012 Planning Thread
AllieH replied to AllieH's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
I found them a few months ago - got really lucky and found 38 of them in one store. I never saw them again in another store (despite making several circuits of all the DT stores in our immediate area!!) Someone did post over the weekend in the OOT threads that they saw them there again. so RUN and see if you can find them. by far the cheapest I've found anywhere. they are double-walled, insulated tumblers. I've seen them for $5ish elsewhere (discountmugs.com, wal-mart too). -

A few more DIY projects coming together!! For our OOT bags: keyholders/lanyards (eBay), and my friend designed the "Mexico" cards, which are similar to our STD images. they say "I take you to carry my key and cash, for barstool or poolside, for raucous or subdued, in sun and in sand, until I depart" Tumblers for OOT bags - tumblers from Dollar Tree (my luckiest find!!) and our logo on vinyl stickers from etsy seller Davet Designs and our DIY cupcake toppers (scrapbook paper, printed logos and lollipop sticks): 43 days and counting!! -

Show us your wedding dress!

it's a gorgeous dress!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed your dress shopping experience. -
well, we have late breaking news. his mother has decided she wants to pay for a DJ for us. would have been nice to know this a few weeks ago!!! Lomas confirmed they have one available (DJ All Music?!?!), and I think for ease we're just going to go with them. so now just finalizing our spreadsheet, and all the fun details. I bet everyone will put their deposits down on the last day - that's what our guests did. My TA was able to get the group/discounted rates for some late signers (like people who just called her when final payment was due...). So I think your TA can help you quite a bit with it. And yes, pet peeve - if you can't go, just say that.

yeah, check out the pricing from where you are, but I know international was just crazy. and since it's food, it may be even more difficult to ship with dry ice. Maybe you have one for him before you leave, or right when you get back? all of a sudden my FMIL has offered to pay for a DJ for us. so now I get to do the legwork to find out which of the resort's DJs are available (if any), then go through all the song choices and such. it was easier when my FI was doing the iPod! lol not to sound ungrateful - I'm really excited about it. I think it'll make the event even more memorable and fun for our guests. I just wish she could have mentioned this a few months ago rather than 6 weeks out...

EEP! 45 days... in the family drama category, it looks like I'll be going fishing with my dad the day before the wedding. we wanted my brother to go with him, but his fiance decided to be a selfish brat and won't let him go (and she didn't want to go with them). While I hate not being at the resort with our guests, it'll mean an awful lot to my dad to spend some time with him one on one. at least we won't be gone all day..just the morning. ah...family.... Feb2013 - my fiance shared some more about the iTunes DJ app. he said really all you have to do is build the playlist, and it'll sort the songs and create the transitions for you. he was really excited that you can do it fairly automated, without a ton of work. I will let you know if he shares anything else, and how it works for us. Happy Friday ladies!!

YAY! congrats on your legal day!! You can get quotes from the traditional shippers like UPS, FedEx and DHL, but I think your best bet may be to work with an importer/exporter. I know when I checked rates to ship a decent sized box to Mexico, it was around $500. yeah, I'll just check a couple of extra pieces of luggage..

2 months is the official freak out point I think. and you guys have extra stuff on your plates with shows and buying a house!! I don't envy either of you. I will warn you that when you hit the 6 week point, that's when the panic really sets in...(sorry!!!). So enjoy merely "freaking out" for the next two weeks ladies! lol My calendar is full of appointments - bridal shower, pick up my dress, get the ring redipped (white gold), two hair appointments, dentist appointment, and likely two trips to the courthouse in there somewhere too. I'm fighting that overwhelmed feeling. it'll all work out...I have no doubt about that. 5? back to back? holy moly. talk about crazy timing on that. You can always call it research for your own wedding - what you do and don't want to include.

Chiquita, if you find that money tree, will you print off a few bills for me?! We put that info on our website, but you could totally do a card with cost & payment info on it. Here's our web page with the info we shared: http://www.weddingwire.com/wedding/UserViewWebsitePage?themeCode=33&wid=193705bd15c943e5&pid=e691970c98e7ca75

hehe don't get me wrong, I love that he finally has some responsibility and pressure related to the wedding. and I love that he's taking it so seriously, and wants to make sure all of our guests have fun. but if I had gone on and on about wedding colors, cake choices, dresses, etc. he would have had the same reaction!! lol

Bambaleo - I think you can totally split the father-daughter dance and respect both of them if you wanted to. Or you can do separate songs. whatever works best for you/your family! Our first dance song is "I won't give up" by Jason Mraz, it's fitting for us I think. I also love "At Last" by Etta James, that was a close 2nd choice, and we may play it later. We also considered "Your Song" by Elton John, but my FI vetoed that one. I'm still not sure we're doing father/daughter or mother/son dances - my FI doesn't really want to do the mother/son dance. His mom would feel slighted if I dance with my dad, but she doesn't dance with him. We'll see what happens. If we do these, my dance with my dad would be "Luckenbach, Texas" by Waylon Jennings. In no way is it "wedding appropriate", but it's the song I remember singing as a very young child with my dad (like 3 years old). Is there a song that always makes you think of your dad when you hear it?

Hi Chiquita, I totally think you can book a room for the DJ, and then have a single guest pay their half of the double rate for a room to themselves. at the end of the day, EDR doesn't care who is IN the rooms, only that the DJ (or other vendor) is a guest at the resort for the 3 day minimum. so you'd list the DJ on your rooming list... It doesn't sound like Nikki's experience really warrants having one- the whole point is that they run the reception. As for the vendor fee... you can either do that or put them up for 3 nights... what about paying for a room for the 3 nights (which is less than $800) and just not having him use the room... like letting someone who's sharing a room go in there, or something like that? or our grandmother wants to come but her budget is tight... if we paid for a 3 night stay for the DJ and then she pays for her stay like in the same room, but in essence she gets her own room? Does that sound silly? I guess I just don't like the idea of paying a flat fee for nothing. I'd rather pay it towards a room and have the empty room just sit there on principle lol.

I think you're right on track! and I agree, I need to take a vacation from all the planning and such.
