  1. gorgeous Shannon!!! I love the bright colors. And you look like you are having fun with your girls. can't wait to see more pics!!
  2. holy crud! $680 is totally insane!!!! that's like the $3000 quote or whatever to drape sheers in Tucanes I got. you can certainly tell what they are willing to do, and where that line is based on their prices lol I highly recommend the fake route. even our guests didn't realize they were fake until I told them! and they were standing next to me while I was holding them. What's better is I got to take it back home with me, and it looks gorgeous in a vase in our room. My bouquet was $120, bouts were $10, and corsages were $14 from KateSaidYes http://www.etsy.com/shop/KateSaidYes She was so easy to work with! I had an inspiration pic, and then wanted to swap out one of the flowers for white orchids since they are important to us. She suggested blooms too based on the look I wanted, and then did a mock up for me to approve. If you are set on real flowers for your bouquet, why not ask one of the vendors who are on this board and live in Mexico if they can help tell you what flowers are in season at the time of your wedding? there used to be a post around here that had that info, but I can't seem to find it right now (sorry!!)
  3. wow, that's a lot for a design on etsy!! have you looked through some of the other STD postcard designs, and thought about requesting a custom item from another seller? I went that route and it was very affordable! here's my inspiration: and here's our actual STD (we ended up having to put the info on the front because it was sent out digital vs. snail mail):
  4. Hi Jovien, and welcome back!! Will cross fingers that he antes up, and you can start planning your big celebration.
  5. Hi Kara! Welcome to BDW!! This site is AWESOME for researching resorts and various options for destination weddings. I don't think I could have planned my wedding without the other brides here! I think the first place to start is to narrow down WHERE you want to go - Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Caribbean Island, somewhere else. From there, it's choosing the resort based on your priorities for your guests - anything from cost, food, activities, nightlife, wedding packages, incentives, resort vs. hotel feel, etc. It's easy to get overwhelmed, but do your research on the various resorts and locations here, and Trip Advisor too. And then narrow it down. I always kept my top 3 choices in mind, and eliminated others. So if I found a new resort that I liked, it had to beat out one of the other three on the list to stay. Once I went through all of those resorts and had my top 3, it was much easier to build a comparison of each resort, their packages, amenities and costs. Good luck, and happy planning!
  6. I have one that I did for our comparison. If you want to PM me your email address, I can send it to you. Unfortunately you can't open attachments until you have 150 posts.
  7. Hi there! I was married at a sister resort, and we did the Pick & Choose dinner for our reception/dinner event. I included photos & comments in my overall review of the resort (see the link in my signature). The food was AWESOME. I think our wedding meal was one of the best I had during our stay. I've also heard other Karisma brides say they liked the BBQ buffet and the Mexican buffet. I really don't think you can go wrong - Karisma resorts are known for the quality and presentation of their food. If you have any specific questions about how the banquet packages work, please let me know - if I can answer them, I'm happy to do so!
  8. yes I did! I had the 6" lanterns, and they were the perfect size. Here's a shot of the aisles:
  9. Yeah, the $5pp for decorations seems to be the going rate these days, at least quoted by the WC in Cancun. Look at it as another tip though - for those that do the set up work (they prefer this is paid in cash, FYI). I wouldn't worry about it until you get down there and have your meeting with the onsite WC. they are the ones who will ultimately decide the amount for you.
  10. I vaguely remember another EDR bride had the red velvet, and she said it was good. That said, if cutting the cake together is important to you, do the small cutting cake - it was around $35 I think you guys said? Just do the vanilla, chocolate or strawberry. The dessert with the meal will be plenty for your guests (and taste better...). Or you guys could even "cut" your cheesecake and feed each other a bite of that - spend that $$ elsewhere! The sky massages are lovely. Something about being on the beach with the breeze blowing - it was dreamy!! Make sure you go 30 minutes early to do the water ritual too. I think you get a massage for 2 in the wedding/honeymoon package, right? Quote: Originally Posted by LKocelko Clearly I haven't been yet, but I vote no (as I did for myself). Maybe ask yourself if you'd rather spend $85 on a cake people may or may not want, or would you rather spend that on something else for the wedding....or a massage
  11. What about persimmon from Paper Source (paper-source.com)? They are pricey, but I love that you can color coordinate EVERYTHING. http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/8-1-2-x-11-text-weight-paper/2505.131/401.html Another source - Stampin Up has a lovely Calypso Coral - you can buy card stock, ink, ribbon, etc. in this color (and many others!). SU is one of those home-based businesses like Pampered Chef or Tupperware. If you need a "dealer", I can hook you up with mine (says the scrapbook/paper addict). I don't think SU prices are as high as Paper Source either. And they can ship directly to your house. http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/ItemList.aspx?categoryID=1114
  12. I'm sorry - I didn't mean to imply that it sucked! It just wasn't our thing for a variety of reasons. We're pretty picky people - my husband doesn't like live music (this is a whole different issue!!!!), and I am super sensitive to any and all cigarette smoke. I think a good rule of thumb is to make the most of wherever you decide to hang - make it YOURS. Especially the night of your wedding - go rock that dress!! We hit the beach bar after our wedding. I sat on a bar stool with my dress hiked up to cool off and we chatted with everyone who was there. Meahwhile most of our guests went and passed out drunk lol we clearly didn't drink that much during the reception (I was too busy dancing and drinking water to try to stay hydrated). 13. Oh my, that would have thrown me off too. For what it's worth... I'm a D cup, and I still had gel cups added to my dress to fill it out/hold the girls up a little more. And I think every bride plans to lose weight before the wedding - so that's an important question to ask for alterations!
  14. As the others said, they are typically around 9pm, and they are posted on the board across from Jojo's. I say definitely check out Guacamayas - it may work for you! There's no music - band or DJ at the Beach Bar. It's a sit and chat sort of place. Nearly everyone we met was super friendly at the resort (guests), so we always had fun chatting with others.
  15. Hi Amanda, If you've been to EDR, then you already know the quality of the food that Karisma resorts put out. Have you considered one of their Azul Resorts? They are the family-friendly versions. I've heard that the Azul Sensatori has an adults-only area as well, so that's the best of both worlds. Azul Fives and Azul Beach are smaller resorts, also Karisma's and family friendly. here is one of the AS threads: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/23412/azul-sensatori-brides-post-here and the Official thread that Miriam has started with all of the resort/wedding info: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/84306/official-azul-sensatori-thread Happy planning!!
  16. Hi and welcome to BDW! I think what you're experiencing with Grand Palladium/Rocio is pretty common with destination weddings. That doesn't mean it's right, or that it's not frustration - it is SUPER frustrating. But it's common. I'm not sure when your wedding is, and that could have something to do with the slow response. Many resorts won't focus on a wedding until 120 days out, or even 90 days. Not to say that you won't get responses, but you won't get super quick responses until it gets closer. And then you will probably finalize all of the details once you get onsite. For instance, we had to change one of our entrees when we got to the resort - it was no problem at all! And yes, I freaked out over the slow response time and frustration of planning from a distance. In the end, it all worked out wonderfully! Most of these resorts do many weddings, and so they focus on the upcoming weddings more than the ones that are farther out. I see an active threads with other Grand Palladium brides - it may be helpful in answering some of your questions, or at least to see if others have experienced what you have. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/27733/any-grand-palladium-brides There's also a couple of reviews (I believe this is the same resort!) http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/grand-palladium-colonial-resort-spa-all-inclusive Good luck with all of your planning - I hope it gets better/easier from here.
