Yes - my friends confirmed that they arrived and were seated quickly (supposed to be there 15 minutes before ceremony time). the music was playing when they arrived, so I'd plan on 15-20 minutes of music to be on the safe side. I echo Lindsey's comments on how well they handled the audio - the playlists labeled that way made it easy for them. all the music was spot on where I wanted it.

Wedding Jewelry
AllieH replied to rpingree001's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I love shiny things! what are your plans for your hair - do you have a blingy headpiece, long veil? are you planning on a necklace at all? if not, I'd probably go with a bigger earring than the posts below. But I'm totally biased - I prefer bigger earrings! -
show us your rings!

Abbie - congratulations on 5 years!!! Happy Anniversary! the set is gorgeous - love the black diamonds! Elissae - time flies, doesn't it?? We are coming up on 9 months already. seriously? it was that long ago?! I love your set too - so pretty. -
it's a seriously good dessert!!! We didn't do the petal runner, as it just wasn't something I was interested in. have you chosen your ceremony location yet? are you set on having chairs? is it a symbolic or religious ceremony? I'm almost thinking with 6 guests, it'd be so lovely to have them stand WITH you at the gazebo. along each side, or fanned behind you when you walk to the "altar" (or table). they could be 3/3 on each side of the aisle, standing, and then as you walk forward and join your groom, close ranks to form a single line. then it's like they are really part of your ceremony, standing up with you as your witnesses, your support as you are starting your life married life together. but if it's a really hot day, or a long religious ceremony, that might not be feasible. If you want the chairs/seats, I think I'd put out 8, 2 rows of 2 on each side, or 1 row of 4 on each side of the aisle. You'll probably have 4 on one side, and 2 on the other, but that's ok too. I wouldn't stress about how it'll look. those 6 people are there for you, and you will have an amazing time!!

Hush hush legal ceremony
AllieH replied to Sharon99's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
boys are dumb. love my husband, but it's the truth! seriously, he barely remembers the Mexico date - he's been off by a day when anyone asks him. I don't expect him to remember (or celebrate) our legal date. We chose not to hang either our Mexico (symbolic) certificate or our Texas (legal) certificate on the wall. they are both framed for safe keeping, and tucked on a shelf. as for stage fright on your wedding day, I want to share a suggestion: do a first look with just him, you & your photographer. we did it, and not only do we have amazing photos of it, it took the edge off my nerves. I also got my tears out then vs. during the ceremony. my photographer had him face her, and I walked up behind him. she kept her distance, and gave us all the time we wanted for the two of us to have "our moment". and then we took a bunch of photos before he headed off to the ceremony, and then I did. my nerves really melted away because of that. the other thing is that it's such a special day, you will be so focused on him during the ceremony. no reason to be nervous at all. these are your friends and family - and they are there to support and celebrate the two of you. don't forget that! it isn't a performance!!! -

Nicole - I love the itinerary - your icons are SOO cute. Love the little jalapeno for the cocktail/welcome party. One other thing - the onsite WC's did a separate itinerary for our guests and gave those out when they checked in. We weren't expecting that at all - it was a nice surprise, and a good reminder for everyone. It did have our room # on it, and while we were ok with that, I know not every bride & groom wants that to be public knowledge.

Hi Jackie! welcome to the group! congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Our officiant left right after the ceremony - we didn't even have a chance to speak with him. So he wasn't at our dinner at all. We tipped room service, the bellmen who delivered/picked up our luggage, and when they drove us around the property on special requests. We also tipped our favorite bartenders, and a couple of the waiters who were amazing too. Just $3-5 generally, it was all appreciated. We also tipped housekeeping because she was awesome too. For the 10 days we were there, we probably tipped $100-$150. I'm no help in the tipping department for the wedding - that was a complete failure on my part to plan to do that!! I wish I had tipped our DJ, our onsite WC team, the wait staff & bartenders at our reception. I would probably tip 10-20% of the cost as a decent rule. In the past, EDR has charged to put the welcome bags in the rooms - a pretty unreasonable fee if I remember. Most brides choose to either hand them out at a welcome dinner/meet at a bar for drinks, or if the guests are arriving around the same time, meet them in the main lobby.

Hurricane season?
AllieH replied to heathermarie28's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
hi Heather! Yes, hurricane season is June - November. The most active time for hurricanes in the Carribean is August/September. That said, I don't think Cancun/RM has gotten hit with a lot of them in recent years. It's a total gamble - even if you pick another month/time of the year, you could still have a rainy wedding day and have to move it indoors. Our wedding was in early November, with the intention we'd miss hurricane season. As it happened, RM was fine, but NYC was hit with a hurricane right before our wedding - and many of our guests were coming from NYC!! so we had hurricane issues, but it wasn't at all what anyone would have guessed. (travel insurance is very important, especially during hurricane season!) -
I think our invite list was about 75-80, but we never expected that many.We began talking about a destination wedding when we got engaged with all of our friends & family. So we had a good idea that the 35-40 was pretty reasonable based on their responses at that time. Then we sent paper invites to all of our friends and family anyway - I felt like that was the right thing to do, even knowing many of them wouldn't be going. Our final number was right at 35 after the last minute dropouts and such (we had a couple of guests with family emergencies that weren't able to make it - plus a hurricane that screwed up flights! it's always something..). It's guesswork... and knowing your friends/family.

Question for anyone doing the legal part at home
AllieH replied to tammikins's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
we didn't exchange rings either for our legal day. I didn't really want any sort of vows, but the JP insisted on the basic vows, so we went with it. cheesy "kiss your bride" and everything. and then we walked out and went to work. how's that for down playing the legal day?? -
hi there! I absolutely recommend a travel agent. It'll take a lot of the booking stress off of your shoulders. Check out Wright Travel Agency, here on this forum. They are fantastic to work with! You can contact them here, and here are some of their reviews. Most TA's I've worked with can do a deposit, and then take payments until the entire amount is paid off (although airfare sometimes has to be paid 100% at time of purchase, if not included in your package).

Wedding Date - Need Advice
AllieH replied to Soon2BeMrsW's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
If I had to guess, the preference would be to do it over the long weekend. But I know that flights are usually more expensive over holiday weekends too - does that affect your pricing (may be a good question to ask your travel agent!). I'd also suggest having the wedding earlier in the stay vs. later. We waited 5 days after our arrival, and I wish we'd done it just a day or two after we got to Mexico.
