February 2012 Brides!!!!!!
MNtoMX replied to torilynnsmith's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
We'll be neighbors!! Congratulations! I went to the store twice this week to try on my white and the off white. I ordered the off white today! So, now I have a dress to sell I just posted in one of the "white or ivory" posts about my decision. This website has been SOOO helpful! I found the Jellyfish and Julia through it. I love both Katya and Julia's work and am so happy they are in the DR! I read one of your posts about phil s. on another thread and I can't agree with you more! He wasn't really our style (although he is a great photographer) but felt that was one of our only options, I was so happy to come across Julia and Katya in this website (what did we do before internet!) Quote: Originally Posted by torilynnsmith Congrats and welcome to the thread!!!!! We are getting married on the 4th and staying at the colonial! We were going to book Julia but she unfortunately was already booked so on her suggestion booked Katya Nova who we are really excited about using! I never paid attention to the colours I was trying on until it came time to order the dress. Luckily the shop I bought from had a similar dress to mine in white. I tried on both and HATED the white!!! I couldnt believe it as I LOVE white t-shirts etc and expected to buy a white dress but I just liked the ivory so much more. I was really tan when I tried on too (it was in the summer) and like you I tan easily. That being said, this is NOT the case for everyone and each individual person has their own preferences! There is actually a whole thread dedicated to this and some more tanned people much preferred the white while others said no they preferred ivory. Likewise very "pale" people said they found ivory was better for their skin tone while others with the same type of skin chose to go with white. I think the colour is TOTALLY dependant on personal preference and no one elses opinion in going to help you decide. You need to figure out what you are most comfortable in! Do you really HATE the white or is it just starker than you remembered? My best friend got married in July and after the fact I asked, was your dress ivory? In fact her dress was diamond white but I didn't even notice ( I was MOH lol) I think as long as it compliments you and you are comfortable in it then it will look great! What is going to look bad ona beautifully sandy beach with the crystal blue ocean and sky as your backdrop? Just got the call tonight that my dress has arrived so now to plan a trip to go get it!!!!!!!!!! -
White or Ivory? Advice needed!
MNtoMX replied to Sharon99's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I tried on a slightly off white in the store and loved it. My mom wanted me to order white, I was hesitant to do so without trying it on. I tried on a different dress, same designer, in diamond white and then ordered the white. When I got it in, I thought it was very bright and I was concerned how tan I would look after 4 days on the beach, next to my fair skinned fiance! (I know, sunscreen...) Anyway, I went round and round, went back to the store twice this past week to try the dresses on again....I emailed our photographer who suggested off white as it photographs better. There are some ivory and 'champagne' dresses that are much more ivory, mine is not that big of a difference.... I ordered the off white today and plan to sell the white. I love them both, but I do get pretty dark in the sun so I worry about how that would look in white. I am not too concerned about my fiance wearing a white shirt (he is wearing a tan suit, I worry more about that being too light) I think it is better to have the white shirt than to try and match an off white shirt to the dress -

Great! Thank you! You don''t happen to recall how much the table wine was by the bottle, do you? Just trying to figure out the budget. I think we will keep several bottles at the tables and guests could still order other drinks if they want, but with the wine there, maybe more likely to drink wine at least during dinner... I think we might do a la carte bar vs. pay per person open bar. Did you try any of their drinks for 'signature drinks' I think we might want to have a signature drink before the ceremony as guests arrive, then champagne toast after the ceremony -

Does anybody know if we can bring our own bottles of wine OR how good is the wine selection at the Jellyfish? I would like to have several bottles available for dinner. We are going to do an a la carte bar. The wine at our last resort in Mexico was no good, I just don't want to run into that problem at our wedding... -

New bride to the thread! Wedding is Feb 3, 2012 at the Jellyfish, staying at Majestic Elegance. We booked Julia Eskin for our photographer. I am having a dilemma with my dress! I tried it on in ivory and I bought it in white at my mother's request....now I don't really care for the white! I want to order it in ivory but of course that is going to cost more and then I have to worry about selling the white. What color is everyone else wearing?! I am trying to figure out what will look best in the sun... I tan pretty easily and will be in DR four days before the wedding. My fiance is Irish and has really fair skin! -

sorry, one more question... did they have music or drums or anything with the fire show? -

Hi Marirocks! What did you select for the fireshow? I know there were a few options, I wonder if the cheaper one is really worth it, do they really only perform for ten minutes or whatever it says. We wanted to have a bonfire but Mayte said it depends on the wind. But the fire dancers can perform even when it's windy -

Glad I read this thread, otherwise we would probably be having a lot of food! I always tend to go over on thins So, when you say three, is it just three apps with one per person of each? I love food...I always seem to eat a lot of the apps at weddings -

I am having the same probelm! Although I have longer to decide I believe it is one main course, but you pick what to serve. I like the pre set menu because it seems more formal, but I also think the pick your own might be cheaper. I was thinking, a salad for everyone and then they pick their entree... although not final yet, we have 36 My aunt said that she likes the idea of pick your own because then guests can get the local flavor of what they want. -

We are also using Julia Eskin! LOVE her work. I would love to see some recent pictures if people care to post after their wedding! Katya Nova is also amazing. It is nice that they live there and are offering more of a variety for photography -
Picking a resort in Punta Cana
MNtoMX replied to BEANIE14's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Congratulations! We looked and researched A LOT! We were really interested in Now Larimar but then read some bad reviews as it was under new management (but could be great now!) I really liked their packages. We were between Dreams and Majestic Elegance. We are staying at Majestic Elegance and getting married at the Jellyfish Restaurant and having our reception there as well. The coordinator, Mayte, can be slow to respond sometimes but some resorts were even worse! There is another restaurant on the beach that does weddings as well, Kauka (I may have spelled that wrong), I think it is fairly new. We chose to go outside the resort for more privacy and intimacy. Congratulations and happy planning!! -
First Step is the HARDEST!! :)
MNtoMX replied to nanceoff's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
There is an Ocean Blue thread on here, I would look at that for assistance on planning and suggestions! good luck and congratulations! (the threads can be very overwhelming sometimes, I read A LOT before finally picking the resort and then location for wedding) -

BRAND NEW! Never been worn, tags are still on! White wedding dress for sale $525 I absolutely love love love this dress and it looks AMAZING on, so flattering to the waistline! I am wearing the same dress for my wedding but in off white, so now I am selling the white. My mom really wanted me to wear white but I changed my mind. It is a size 8 but sizes run true to size/larger. I typically wear between 8 and 10 (although sometimes I can squeeze a 6, 10 on me is typically for the bust). There have been no alterations. The beading is amazing and looks fabulous bustled. Seriously, I can not tell you how much I LOVE this dress! Please feel free to PM me with any questions!

lol, when I first looked at this on my phone I thought it said 'apples' and I was wondering what you were doing wih apples, and that 3 to 4 seemed like a lot! haha. I think would do 4 per person, or 4-5; it stinks to run out of things! but then again, you don't want a lot of uneaten food! what appetizers did you decide on? -
Ok, now regular rooms are back on online travle sites such as orbitz, expedia and travelocity! yay! I think our TA still only has access to the adults only side, some contract deal, but at least I know there are options out there for others (of course most of our guests booked last week after the resort told us that the resort was full for January and no regular rooms were available for our dates!)

Can somebody please answer a question.... I know that ME and MC share a casino, but can guests go between he resorts fairly easily? We are staying at ME but right now there are NO regular rooms available, only adults only... so, we were wondering if we should refer those who want to save a little money to book at the MC?? We are getting married at the Jellyfish but would like to do a welcome cocktail hour at the ME- if people stay at MC could they come over?? Anyone who knows the answer to this, please share! Thank you!!
