  1. I read somewhere they have armed guards at them driveway entrance....I could be wrong....I think it was in a review. quote name="astef" url="/t/56479/jellyfish-restaurant/670#post_1709757"] Hi ladies, Quick question for those of you who have been to the Jellyfish... is there security there? One of my silly guests has expressed concern about going 'outside of the resort' which is ridiculous considering the restaurant is in between resorts, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks!
  2. Our wedding is Feb 3, we are budgeting about $3,500 to $4,000 depending on the 'extras' I am waiting to hear back from Mayte about our menu selections as we hope to pick our own menu (selecting some of the a la carte options) I wanted to stay at Dreams and have the free ceremony (we did not think we would qualify, and I still do not think we qualify for the free wedding at ME); however, my FI really wanted to stay at ME. We are very happy with our resort selection at ME but we were shocked at how much the little things added up for weddings at ME! We also like the more private feel of the Jellyfish. Transportation is $6 now I think. There are some really great reviews on here for the Jellyfish and there are a couple of threads on here
  3. Do you still have the email with the activities? Also, did you have a welcome dinner in the buffet or another restaurant?
  4. I initially communicated with Sandra in the wedding department. She told me she would help me and to contact her closer to the day. I emailed her this weekend and received a response from the 'groups' department at [email protected] Not sure if it is becuase I am getting married off the resort? I also asked about a cocktail hour. We do not want to pay extra. I have not responded yet as she emailed me a form to complete with everyone's room reservation numbers and I just received it back from our TA
  5. Our ring box instead of using a pillow http://www.etsy.com/transaction/66662725?utm_source=transaction&utm_medium=trans_email&utm_campaign=shipping_notification I also found ring bowls that I really liked. I first wanted to use a big shell but was worried about a ring falling outk into the sand. we also had our names and date engraved into the box
  6. YAY Jessica! CONGRATULATIONS!!! I love the pictures!! I have so many questions to ask.... I will wait to bombard you...I will also likely request to be your friend on fb (dariann is my name ) Everything looked beautiful!
  7. My fiance really wanted to stay at ME (we were between ME and Dreams). Once we started adding everything up at ME it was similar to having a more intimate and personable setting at the Jellyfish. It seems like the resorts nickle and dime everything! If we were paying for our guest to eat and drink, why not do it outside of the resort? I wanted to stay at dreams and have the free ceremony (we won't qualify for free at ME) and then have the reception at Jellyfish but we decided to do it all at the Jellyfish and stay at ME Originally Posted by mimiq Hi ladies, My fiance and I are considering getting married at the Majestic Elegance, but now that I've stumbled across the Jellyfish, I'm tempted to do something off resort - for the reception at least. It seems like a lot of brides on this thread are staying at the ME and then having all or part of the wedding at Jellyfish. I wondered what your motivation was for having some or all of it off resort. Were you unhappy with the service of the ME? Didn't think they could do as nice a job as JF? Price? Just wondered what other brides out there are thinking. What's drawing me in to JF is the lovely pics that I see with beautiful setups where everything seems to be included for the $500 decoration fee. Some of the pics of the resort setups don't look quite as cute once you compare to JF! TIA for the input!
  8. I feel like I need a checklist right now! For me, I feel like I am at a standstill....I need to do the OOT bags and find jewlery still!
  9. YES! We will bring our own sparklers! I can't wait to hear how it works for you! Is there a free welcome cocktail at the JELLYFISH when guests arrive? (your post said resort?) I like the idea of picking entrees! I think we will do that, the only issue will be narrowing it down! So, in picking the entree, do you pick a side too or just the entree? And, did you pick the same salad for everyone to come out first? Did Mayte give you a discount on the salad> I am thining caprese salad but it's $12 or something on the menu so I was wondering if we would get a price break?? Thank you! for the suggestion of bringing champagne! i didn't know we could do that, we will probably do the same. I also think we will do two hours of open bar and maybe back to beer and wine after if they allow that?
  10. Do you still have the blue chair sashes? I sent you a PM a while back and never heard back from you. I will takethem if you have them!
  11. Here is my latest response from Mayte, I asked if sparklers were not available for purchase in the DR. Her response was: think is not problem if you purchuase the sparkles..., more brides brought from home. Un abrazo So, sounds like if we can get them there, we are good??
  12. Seriously, Megs, you are great! I have a question about how you guys did the bar. Did you just pay per drink consumed? How do you think that turned out? More/less than having an open bar? We have about 35 people...about 30 like to drink! haha.... I am torn on how we should do the bar situation.... Also, was there a complimentary welcome drink deal when guests arrive to the Jellyfish? (before ceremony)
  13. I just looked at my email and was incorrect in my statement about the 4th, it was January that was really full when we looked. We wanted a Friday... Have you heard from Mayte yet? She can be slow in responding but is really sweet and I have heard wonderful things about what she does!
  14. HI Kristen! Do you know if the pre set dinner and open bar prices already inclue the taxes? also, is the $5 cocktail hour th e same for after the ceremony, before reception? thanks!
  15. I think you are correct that the charge is up to 50 people Torilynn- if the jellyfish is not available (i have a feeling the 4th was booked when we looked for ours) you could try Kukua. There was a thread started on here and I believe it is close to the Majestic. I think they are newer and not as busy with weddings, although I could be wrong! Good luck with the planning! I think it is ok to switch this close to the day, you really have to do what makes you and your fiance happy and right for you! I have lots of Jellyfish emails saved so let me know if youhave other questions, I will do my best to answer. Megs has been a great deal of help in this thread!
  16. That would be great! Thank you! I am curious. I will email Mayte (maybe after your wedding) to inquire further. I found these https://www.sparklersonline.com/ that seem to be a pretty good deal. we will probably get the shorter ones as they will likely pack easier. I look forward to your review of everything!!
  17. I emailed Mayte about sparklers, has anyone else asked about this??? I can't tell if from her response they are forbidden?? I will email to try and clarify, I wonder if we could bring our own?? from Mayte: You´re not the first one ask me for that, I can´t found anything in Dominican Republic even similar or smaller, i think those are forgiven sale and I don´t know why. I´m so sad for I can help you in that, sorry.
  18. I also want sparklers and asked our coordinator, here was her response...I can't tell if she means they are forbidden? They do have fireworks in some resort packages. We are getting married at the Jellyfish, here was the response: You´re not the first one ask me for that, I can´t found anything in Dominican Republic even similar or smaller, i think those are forgiven sale and I don´t know why. I´m so sad for I can help you in that, sorry.
  19. Julia Eskin or Katya Nova! Both Canadian living in Punta Cana (I know this is an old thread but if anyone looks at it, they might want the info!)
  20. Hi Nicki, We are getting married at the Jellyfish in February but staying at the Majestic Elegance. By the time we added everything up at the resort, it was similar in pricing to going elsewhere. You should look at prices at the Jellyfish Restaurant or at Kukua Beach Club. Just a thought. They offer a more intimate setting and when you add up a private dinner, drinks etc.at the resort, it all adds up!
  21. We are escaping the Minnesota winter for the Dominican Republic!
  22. Megs- Do you mind sharing, or emailing, your song list?! I am torn as to what we should do....If the Jellyfish DJ had a song list, did he still play requestes Venus909- We are having a welcome cocktail hour one night and a dinner the next at our resort, Majestic Elegance, both will be very informal. We are having both our ceremony and reception at jellyfish. We initally were thinking of staying at Dreams and then we would have had our ceremony at the resort and reception at Jellyfish. We would have qualified for a free ceremony at Dreams
  23. Ah man! This makes me feel unorganized I have a few months to go but I really need to work on the music aspect of things. Would you mind sharing your outline of music? I feel that I need ideas! We have first dance song....and "ideas" for everything else! I a looking forward to your review after the wedding as we are also at ME and wedding at Jellyfish. : Originally Posted by jlarruda 26 days until Dominican, 29 days until I say I do.. pretty much everything is done, I just have to do some last minute touches on the OOT bags, get a makeup trial & buy makeup, buy fiance's tie and buy groomsmen/parents gifts. Looks like I need to make a trip to the mall As far as the dj, I made a detailed list of music to play during the ceremony/reception and broke it down to music to play when guests arrive, procession, bridal entrance, sand ceremony, exit, our first dance, cocktail hour, dinner music, dancing music & slow songs..
