Ok so now I'm dying of jealousy. My wedding is Jan. 18th and I still don't even have my dress in for my first fitting til the second week of November. Everybody in the wedding party is fully outfitted except me! I hate waiting...... Ok rant finished, quick question for you all. We want to do an at home reception but we really wanted to do something outdoors so we could recreate the feel of our Jamaica beach wedding. Obviously that means waiting til summer. Is anyone else waiting awhile post wedding for their AHR? With a January wedding that means it will be at least 6 months later.

Beautiful! You'll have some serious sparkle going on the beach!

OMG! 3 months!!! I think it's finally sinking in that I will be married in a few months. Got our wedding bands and my dress and flowers come in November. Last 2 DIY projects are centrepeices and place cards/favours. Would be moving much faster on these if my bridesmaids weren't trekking all over the planet. One is climbing Mt Everest and the other one is in NYC. Good thing I'm such a chill bride

Gorgeous! Very tropical. I love the little ones the most.

Despite inconsistent reports on quality we decided to book the resort DJ. Our "reception" is going to be a bonfire for roughly an hour and a half before hitting the disco. Hiring an outside DJ for such a short amount of time would be very pricey when you factor in all the fees. We sent a handful of suggested songs and asked that he mix those with some "local flavour".

Yeah I thought it was a little pointless myself but they specifically stated that our birth certificate must include our parents' names. A few of the other brides on the forum for our resort contacted them and they said it was needed for the liscense. I won't argue as it's only costing us 40 bucks a piece. As for the passports, it's just for id/proof of your legally visiting the country, all resorts ask to see them when you arrive, ours is simply doing this in advance to save time on the paperwork. When we were there last year for a cousin's wedding they asked to see the passports of the couple and all the witnesses.

We will have tiny tin pails at every place with tropical drink flavored candies in them and little drink umbrella with their name written on it as a place card.

We had to make that phone call too... to 60 people! It certainly narrowed the list down quickly when we put them on the spot though, lol. As for the gifts/favours, one thing that occured to me just the other day was that noone wants to have to cart something home with them in their luggage so I highly recommend edibles, just don't go with chocolate if you can't guarantee it will stay cool til the wedding day! I think we decided on a mix of all the tropical drink flavoured jelly belly's (margarita/strawberry daiquiri, etc)

Well said Peach! I agree, you clearly picked those two for a reason. Either they do alot of weddings and will be very experienced at putting it together for you or maybe they don't get many weddings and so will be super helpful and accomadating in order to start getting some buzz on forims like this one. I would just suggest that if they don't do weddings very often to make sure you are very clear about every detail of what you want on your day, put it all in writing and send a copy to every person who will be involved in putting it together for you.

Only private dinners need to be over in 1.5 hours. As for the bonifire, all of the reviews I've read by couples who did them said that the fire lasted longer than an hour. If you tip the bartender well he will stick around for an extra half hour and I'm crossing my fingers that the DJ will be just as agreeable. We figured this would put our bonfire from 8:30 til 10ish. Since the disco is at the suites we have to go to the lobby at this point to catch the shuttle there so we figured a little rest at the lobby bar to recharge our batteries before going would take about an hour (and give us time to chat with the guests with children who can't go to the disco. Remember, nothing happens instantly, people are more than happy to take their time getting from place to place what with all the bars along the way lol. I have a feeling your extra hour will be very easy to kill.

We have exactly the same plan as you. I didn't save the email but I beleive Sylvia told me the restaurant open at 6 or 6:30, something like that. We are having a very short ceremony and not going crazy with the pictures so we only scheduled half an hour for that. Sylvia told us that 4:30 was early enough to give us lots of time for the toast and everything and get a little of the ealy sunset lighting for our pictures. Allowing 2 hours for dinner (we aren't doing the cake until after we start the bonfire for a late snack) From what I was told you can expect everything to move slower the more guests that you have so take that into consideration too.

What are you walking down the Aisle to?

If you don't have a song that's meaningful to you, try looking up the soundtracks to some of your favorite movies, that's how we figured out ours. -
Well we've been a quiet group for the past week ladies. How's everyone's planning going? There were a couple of big wedding shows last weekend, (Ottawa and Montreal) did anyone attend and get some fantastic ideas? As for me my hunt for the blue and green tealights is over, I found them on ebay for less than a dollar a piece and the guy threw in the shipping for free. Woohoo! Love a deal! Next task is getting all our legal stuff in order: long-form birth certificates and notarized copies of our passports. What does everyone else have on the go?

I didn't stay at this resort but I was at the Gran Bahia not far away and none of our group noticed any sand fleas at all. There were mosiquitos a little bit in the evenings when we were back near the treeline however it's so breezy on the beach in the evening that there wasn't a single mosiquito around there at any time. Come to think of it, I've travelled ALOT and the only times I've ever encountered sand fleas was on secluded beaches, never at a resort.

Sounds like we're getting roughly the same order for very close to the same price. Good to know there's people doing high quality fake flowers for consistent prices. I don't care if I got the cheapest deal or not, I just care that I will get exactly what I was expecting, especially when us Canadian brides have to shell out so much for shipping for everything!

I want to use the old song You Belong To Me. There's a version by Jason Wade from Lifehouse that they played during the first Shrek movie. My only worry is that it's sooooooo slow it'll be awkward to walk to. I wonder if it'll sound weird if I speed it up..... -
Thanks! I'm looking for turquoise or teal and green.
