  1. She or he (I'm not sure) sent me back info for my date and asked for a $500 deposit to secure the date. I want to check with my hotel NOW Larimar to see if they work with them and what to do about transportation. When I was looking at the Jellyfish, I had figured it was in walking distance for the young and would book a van for some of the older people and small children but looking at this map http://puntacanatv.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/PUNTA-CANA-AREAS-MAP.pdf it seems way too far to ask people to walk back. I know my friends would be good sports about it but heading back on the sand around midnight..just not too sure. Winnie - I plan on doing the same thing as you. Get hitched on the beach at NOW and see if I can parlay the free meal for 25 into apps before the ceremony and use the cake as a grooms cake too.
  2. I spoke to my sister (MOH) and she decided to send out another email to family to say (nicely) get off your hump and put money down. My TA broke down payment plans but I have amounts to hit to keep the rate at what it is so...I'm waiting to see how many people listen to her in the next coming weeks. If they haven't then, I've changed it a bit and may send out my invites the beginning of Sept rather than the end. We, too, are going to do RSVP online or snail mail. Question though, did you still put the stamps on the envelopes or figure those who'll put into the postbox will add the stamp themselves. Have been playing around with the idea that anyone who is in my families circle will get stamps because ole fashion people will expect it. The younger set would just be told to do it online. Wish there were more references or sources on here talking about this.
  3. I'd agree with you. It all depends on whether your timeframe gets busy which Feb has according to Mayte. Sending off the deposit gives you piece of mind.
  4. I am one of those brides and I lost out. Though Mayte had sent me all the information, she hadn't sent me the official confirmation. With my alert the other bride called and left a deposit which Mayte notified me of. There is only, ever ONE wedding at Jellyfish. Which is how it should be. I'm currently reserving the Kukua for my reception instead which is nice since they have a pool on the property which is something I quite like - so it's cool. All you Jellyfishers have a wonderful wedding reception!!!
  5. I'm currently doing research on the appropriate time frame of when to send out invites when it's a destination wedding and how long to give people to RSVP? I sent out my STD cards where we asked for a rough number count - about ten or so couples responded to that. And on our website we've been posting info about booking - the same people who responded to the rough count have already booked. My folks friends have said they're waiting for the actual invitations. So my thought process now is our wedding is in Feb 2012, that invitations should go out late September with an RSVP by Dec 1st. What do we think about that? Is that too long of a timeframe? I'd love to hear some other timeframes too?
  6. I am considering the for our invitations. I've never used them before but I'm willing to trust. Plus, they do a whole cash back if not happy. I say - go for it!
  7. Would it be possible to share those pictures. I'd love to see what her wedding looked like - [email protected].
  8. I had sent a request for the date I wanted and Mayte sent me information on the property but NOT a hold on the date. It took three more emails and when I finally called and got through my date had been secured THE DAY BEFORE! I had realized on the Jellyfish thread that there was another bride looking to have her event there the same day and she beat me to the punch. In the end, I really wanted dinner to be by a pool and if I can get that here, then it was meant to be.
  9. Hi there ladies, do either of you have any other information on this place? I wan't my reception at Jellyfish but my date was already booked and now I'm looking for a new location. Please forward me any info you have. Thanks!
  10. It is hard! But stay on it. I lost my date because I figured Mayte was covering it and now I'm back to square one. Keep harassing her!!!
  11. WOW! That's so amazing. That sooooo out does my rate of $130 but then again, my wedding is over winter recess. I'll stay hopeful that it will go down.
  12. I've just looked for the page and couldn't find it. What is it listed under?
  13. Hmm, I think cake and flowers is more subject to what you want and they'll price it accordingly. I sent Claribel a pic of the sort of cake we're hoping for and she said she'd wait till it's closer to the date approaching to talk about it with the chef. Where as flowers, are seasonal and prices will vary.
  14. Sadly, problems are underfoot and I may have to push back the trip again. Which I am not pleased about. I'll know more by the beginning of next week. I may be going in September instead. I sooo look forward to hearing your report.
  15. We may have a conflicting problem. I'm also getting married on that day and have already confirmed with Mayte about having my reception there. Have you heard back from her yet? Although, thrilled to hear someone else getting married on the same day as me!
  16. Here's the info for the AM resorts. I'm close to getting the corporate number and beginning to call. I can be annoying like that (even from as far away as I am). AMResorts 7 Campus Boulevard Newtown Square, PA 19073 [email protected] I wouldn't waver. The only bad reviews I've read were about the food. And I was just told that you can actually go and partake of Dreams or Secrets (if you don't have kids) while there which I will share with my guests. If it's really, really bad, we'll just head to some other resorts. Which, could actually, make it a lot of fun! Personally, I think once you've sent the STD you're screwed into what you've chosen.
  17. I'm pleased to say that Mayte got back to me...YIPPIE!!! And I'm now having my reception there. Figure, I still can get hitched at the resort and then we can walk along the beach there. I'm also going to visit in two weeks, so I'll take some more pics and if anyone has any other questions - let me know.
  18. Dee - I LOVED Paradisus but it was so insanely expensive that we didn't do it (even with my sisters airline discounts). Once again, wishing you the best of luck!! I'm actually heading to DR in two weeks time. I fully plan on checking it all out and will post reviews and take loads of pictures. I'm currently (mentally) planning to have my ceremony at NOW and then move the reception to Jellyfish. That way, my guests are guarnteed to have one night of really good food. I spoke to the WC there and she seems completely on it! And now have my date reserved. I also emailed the AM resort people about the bad reviews about the food on all the travel sites. I haven't heard back and will say it again - I think you ladies should be doing the same thing. It may be the only way to get any sort of change. One of my bf's stayed at a NOW in Mexico and loved it - not one complaint. So I'm sticking to the idea that they still need to sort out the turn over and it will get better.
  19. I think the dress looks great actually!!! And that price...very nice.
  20. Thanks soooo much for this link. This makes it clear - I want my reception at the Jellyfish!!!! Now if only Mayte would email me back and let me know if my date is available. Let's all hope no other bride has chosen my date...please!!!
  21. Sorry to hear that Dee, but totally understand. I already have a few family members that have brought into the resort, so good or bad, that's where everyone is staying. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
  22. The FIlL's aren't even coming (due to distance - Scotland to DR is crazy) which we understand. And they are retired. My folks are paying for it all. Which my dad insisted because he's old fashioned like that. I tried to reason with him - that a retired man should not be throwing money around and needless to say, I was shut down. Which is why we're getting married in DR. A New York wedding would have been minimum $30,000 - MINIMUM! I am secretly hoping FILs get us a really good gift though. Like the Kitchenaid mixer I've had my eye on for forever!
  23. Dee - As for information on your STDs, have you created a website? A website is the best way to get all your information out there to people. I didn't send any excess info with my STDs I simple said check the website. I know The Knot and Brides magazine offer free wedding sites. I plan on including more details for booking with the official wedding invitation since I'm aware that not all of my parents friends are internet savvy. Katusha - I'm in the same place. My immediate family alone clocks me up to 20. I add in my BFFs and I'm at 35 (not including their plus 1s) so I fear they won't allow me to have a proper sit down. And I'm hoping to do a cocktail stand before I even walk down the isle. All of this is why I'm thinking more Jellyfish. Except that I do like the 'change location' feel too. As for the extra chairs, that is bonkers! And something I hadn't even thought off. May do a private rental of cushions though - if allowed. Saw beautiful pics with them online and looked so much more personal than the chairs. If I have to pay that much money I'd rather have something completely different instead.
  24. JB- if that was a buffet for cocktail hour - than that is quite a spread! Thanks for clarifying that for me. Thing is, I've been estimating it at around 60 people may come. Now, my prayers are that less than 50 book, so it can be a sit-down.
  25. OMG! Thank you sooooooooooooo much for this! The bride looked beautiful and loved her signature, go to, pose. But this has made it clear that I need to go visit. Just seeing the pics of a buffet - didn't make me feel good. Incredibly helpful! Oh, and loved her 'after wedding' dress too.
