  1. It sounds like it's possible, I feel the same way! You will have to keep us updated and I will do the same
  2. I'm wondering the same thing rae! That's my "goal" budget for our DW!
  3. Thank you! I am looking forward to getting the rates back from my TA but I also wanted something close to the airport just because it's much more convenient for everyone. The free wedding is something I would also like and then adding extras would be a lot easier than some of the packages I've seen offered by resorts that you pay for and include a bunch of stuff I have no interest in!
  4. I am working with a TA currently as well to get rates and am looking at Riu for around the same time as you, Jwed! I will let you know if we decide on Riu, it really depends on which resort gives me the best rates for my guests as well as the wedding packages. Was there a particular reason you settled on Riu?
  5. Interesting, I am going to contact them and find out. I didn't know you could go and it NOT be all inclusive! I'll let you know what they tell me!
  6. That's not bad at all, I am really considering Gran Bahia because it has the best deal so far in terms of rates for my guests! I am from Blackwood and I work in Voorhees! Where are you from?
  7. Hi Lindsey! I'm actually from South Jersey That's so awesome! You'll have to let me know where you end up selecting. We decided to go to Jamaica instead of Mexico because my fiancee has already been to Mexico and neither of us have been to Jamaica so we figure let's go somewhere neither of us have been! Thank you for that book suggestion, I'm going to check it out!
  8. Children stay for free? When I asked about rates for children (we will be bringing our then 11 month old son) from my TA she informed me that children under 12 stay at Gran Bahia for $191 per child (3 night stay) and $245 per child (4 night stay). Did you confirm this with the resort? Maybe I should contact them directly because the TA isn't aware of this?
  9. Thanks so much for all your input JayKay, so helpful!! I have checking out that thread religiously. I think we may go with Gran Bahia, I am just waiting to hear a few more quotes of some other places. I thought I had saw on one of the threads that children under 12 are free at Gran Bahia but a TA just told me the child rates there and I am a little disappointed, but I assume all resorts have rates for children so I guess I can't be that disappointed!
  10. Thanks for clarifying your original statement, Matt! I'll be getting married in Jamaica, however, your shots are gorgeous! Thanks again for the info!
  11. Hi Carrie, I'm actually going to get married in Jamaica. I am still working with a TA to finalize where but Gran Bahia Principe is pretty much at the top of the list! As soon as I confirm, I am sure I will be all over here posting questions considering I read thousands of posts on here already pertaining to it I'm not from Great Britain actually. My first name is Brittany and I lived there for a bit and it was just a nickname I received from my fiancee!
  12. Thanks JayKay and thank you for the photographer suggestion. I checked out his site and he has some gorgeous shots! If you don't mind me asking, about what were the price ranges for the packages?
  13. Thanks acw271011! I have heard that about Jamaica which is why we settled on them. I am finally working with a TA and just waiting for her to send me back some rates on places (including Gran Bahia). After researching the wedding packages, I actually think that Gran Bahia's sounds most reasonable without breaking the bank. After I choose I am sure I will be asking you and everyone else questions regarding the wedding itself. I am trying to work on a budget as best as possible!
  14. Thanks Mrs Scuba! I asked the TA I am working with to give me rates on that resort as well. I actually have an uncle who is getting married there next month so I was going to talk to his soon to be wife and see how her planning has been
  15. Thank you so much for your input! We have decided to go with Jamaica and I'm just starting the early stages, working with a TA. I see quite a few are getting married at Gran Bahia so that's one of the places my TA is looking into along with a few other options. I will update to let everyone know where the final booking is (I'm excited to know myself so I can relax...a little?) Thank you also for the photographer suggestion, I'm going to check out his work!
  16. Thanks for that info Dutchie600. Was your friend pleased with the photographer she hired? Any words of wisdom/advice or opinion on Gran Bahia? I have put in a few requests to TA's and haven't heard back from them but I am hoping to start the process as soon as possible. Until then, I am still reading around on here and trying to figure things out.
  17. Thanks for the info, Matt. We actually have Mayan Riviera as another option other than Jamaica. I checked out your pictures and they are gorgeous! I will keep you in mind after I speak with a TA!
  18. Thanks so much for the tips JayKay, Gran Bahia Principe is one that we are considering as well. I haven't had luck finding a TA to work with but that definitely seems to be the next big step I need to take before continuing!
  19. Hey All, I recently got engaged and have been feverishly trying to figure out where to get married. We have always discussed a DW and I want to secure a resort as soon as possible. I am completely clueless as to where to start, I have been researching resorts on the internet as well as lurking on here for reviews, opinions, ideas, etc. I decided on June 2012 because I work in a school and have to follow school vacations/breaks and the last two weeks of that June are a time we have off already so I figured that'd be the easiest and best time for me (My FI has a much more flexible schedule). I feel totally overwhelmed as I try to find a TA to work with in order to try to fit everything into our budget as well as get the best deal for our guests (they are really my primary concern...something affordable for them as well as for us). I think Jamaica is the location where we are looking and I have been trying to narrow down resorts, but the consensus on here seems to be that working with a good TA is your best bet. Any words of wisdom or advice from all of you more experienced members?
  20. Hey Jenni, I am just starting my wedding planning as well and I am in almost the same boat as you except I need a date towards the end of June because I work in a school. I am completely overwhelmed with trying to pick a resort and have been browsing around on here in order to get some ideas, suggestions, check out reviews, etc. I am trying to be really frugal as well, especially in terms of the prices for our guests because I want them to feel it's affordable. I was hoping to find prices for at least 4 days for around $1000 if it's even possible! In terms of what my budget is, I am trying to keep it to under $5000. I don't know if any of this is even going to work but I am attempting. Good luck with everything and I am sure I will see you around the boards!
