  1. They won't let you take them on your carry on, but you can pack them in your luggage... Quote: Originally Posted by Sunshine2680 And the Canadian airline will let you bring them also? 2. If anyone is getting married at Iberostar rose hall beach, i have cleared it with the WC there and we can use them.. i ordered mine a couple months ago from weddinglanterns.com.. 100% biodegradable, decent shipping and duty for the Canadian brides... and they are good quality Good Luck!
  3. Hey Tori! Thanks for starting the new thread! i know alot of conversation was in the other thread so i will do my best to sum up what i had. When the FI and i were looking at different TA's and companies to go with for booking our group trip, we researched a few different companies. We went with ACV for a few reasons the top two are... #1 at the time of us booking they were the cheapest.. ( over sunquest vacations, westjet vacations etc..) so that was the #1. #2 they have the free upgrade for the bride and groom when you have a group booking, up to executive class, along with proviing us use of the captains closet or whatever it is called, to have my dress stored for the flight. This was told to me by more than one TA. I loved that!! I was not told we needed a minimum however I had 29 booked right away, so the 20 was never an issue for me.. However!! My TA called me up after the 29 people booked, and said " you get to upgrade one other couple up to Executive class as you have 20 people book.. " so i got to upgrade my FI and i, and one other couple up with us, for free... Having said that it was my understanding that the bride and groom get the automatic upgrade, and then if you book 20 people, you get one more set of 2 upgrades for free. ( to upgrade to executive class it is 299.00 per person) So it is a significant perk! Executive class upgrade allows you to have 3 bags at 70lbs each per person. Regular class allows one bag at 50lbs, and the option to purchase the allowance for an additional bag for 30.00 I am so sorry to hear you are having such a hard time with your TA. This is something you should totally not have to be stressing about. Hope this info helps, and people find it useful.. If you are going through ACV already, and have not heard of this upgrade then Look into it!! it is well worth it! and it is a ACV promotion.. NOT a TA promotion.
  4. Hmmm yeah i would ask around for sure... maybe even quote some sites where you saw that upgrade... ( i quoted some on the previous posts..) as for what i said.. i actually didn't say anything.. my TA just told me about the closet and the free upgrade.. i didn't even ask! Even if you do ride regular class i am sure they will have no problems storing your dress in the closet!
  5. Yeah i have been looking ( have gone to 4 dollaramas thus far) and have only found 15 bottles of advil.. so i am still on the search to buy the rest of them... So i have only half so far! i hope they stock them up too!! it will be tragic if they don't!! lol As for the booking.. i was engaged on St. Paddy's day, and i Booked in April. for a wedding date of February... so 10 months in advance... You want to book with as much time as possible.. as you are trying to get availability for a whole group... a block of rooms etc... resorts fill up! you want to make sure there is enough room for all of your guests... and the longer you wait, for a group booking, the higher the price gets! I know we are still just over 6 months away from the wedding and the package prices have already gone up a couple hundred dollars. As for ACV being the most expensive... i think it depends on where you are flying from etc.. however i Went to 4 different TA's and i also tried westjet Vacations, Sunquest Vacations, ACV, and one other one.. ( i cant remember what it was called right this moment) but ACV came out to being the cheapest.. and that was on quotes from flying out of Calgary, and toronto. I have guests flying out of Kelowna, Grande Prairie, Kamloops.. and ACV even threw in the free connecting flight for them to meet us in Calgary ( they just had to pay the taxes, but got the connecting flight for free) ACV has been awesome!!! I don't know if thats because we booked in plenty of advance, or if we just have a good TA.. i dunno... Hope that helps!
  6. Hey, the ones from wedinglanterns.com are also 100%biodegradable.. they don't have the wire rims etc.. and they are really affordable
  7. Hey, I got mine from http://weddinglanterns.com/ and the shipping and duty was pretty decent... they were good to deal with, for all of the Canadian Brides.. I got them a few months ago.. and was happy with them when i got them, as they are good quality and size. Good luck ladies!
  8. Hi JBean, I actually got my sky lanterns from weddinglanterns.com and you can buy them in small cases and numbers.. i have had them for a long time.. they are perfect!!.. and shipping was decent! i bought 40 of them... Good luck!
  9. Wooohoo!!!!! Yeah every bride will get access to the closet at the front of the plane to put your dress in which is soo nice cause then you dont have to worry about it getting crinkled or dirty etc.. I am so glad I decided to say something.. as it seems to be beneficial and i hope it helps the rest of the ACV brides!!!!! yay to executive class!!! ( which is 299.00 plus tax per person normally) Yay us!!
  10. Every TA has a supervisor!! I would talk to them and let them know you have have brought a TON of business to them.. and you would appreciate the customer service you deserve. You could have chosen so many other places to go to, however you chose their agency. They should treat you better... I would totally go to their supervisor or manager. Good Luck!! and you will get that upgrade!!
  11. Good Luck! Keep us posted!! cause I think all of us who are using ACV should know!! we deserve the free upgrade!!
  12. Yayy!! I am so glad you inquired and got the free upgrade!! i am glad i told you guys about it! as we are the bride and groom!! we deserve to be special and sit in executive class and have more luggage space! Yay!! Now lets hope Tori gets the upgrade too!!
  13. That's not silly at all!! it is your day!! I have some really cute sandals that i bought for the reception and for later... but barefoot jewelery for the ceremony and for the beach pictures etc I actually got my barefoot jewelery from ladybeads.com i got myself and my bridesmaids all matching ones.. But you could totally make them yourself too!
  14. That would be awesome if you guys get upgraded!!!! hopefully your TA will be able to help ya!keep us posted!! Thanks i am happy i found it too... i posted pics on the Calgary Brides thread i think it was or maybe it was the thread i started on asking for calgary brides advise and help on where to find one hahaha.. one of those! but i can post it again if you can't find it hahah I am getting married on the beach.. and i hadn't really thought of the aisle runner to be honest.. I am getting married with just foot jewelery and in my bare feet so i doubt i will get the runner... $100 to rent a aisle runner is a tad pricey in my opinion.. lol i have seen some pics where they have no aisle runner but have the giant conch shells as aisle markers.. so i am not too sure how much those are, or if you can get them for free but if you can i think i will just do that!
  15. I don't blame you!! I was offered that promo with two different TA's who were telling me about Air Canada Vacations, and they both stated that is a promo with Air Canada Vacations.. when you do a group wedding booking etc. I would DEFINATLY bring it up to your TA. It is free and so you are totally entitled to it!! I did some looking online also, and this is not my TA, however it is uniglovbe travel that posted up the Air Canada Vacations blurb about free upgrades.. here is the link, and it is at the bottom of the page... http://www.romantictravel.ca/flash.html Here is another one i found.. an Article about how ACV has new incentives and promotions.. it also mentioned in there about the free upgrade... http://www.travelpress.com/PHP/news.php?sid=2676 The other thing you could do is contact air Canada Vacations directly to inquire. Here is the air canada website that shows the baggage allowances : http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/checked.html Hope this helps!!!!! Quote: Originally Posted by torilynnsmith Thanks, I think ACV has new rules as the additional bag (economy) is $20 now (each way - not too bad) I tried searching the ACV website for info on the free upgrade for the bride and groom and can't find anything..... I am so jealous of you luvmoo but would love love love if we can get the same upgrade!!! What a huge difference this would make, and a nice touch for the bride and groom!
  16. Hey! congrats to your girlfriend and welcome back!! here is the email quote directly from my TA. pertaining to Air Canada Vacations flight : The baggage allowance in economy class is 1 piece 50lbs each and a 2nd bag is allowed for a fee of $30 per person. In Executive class the baggage allowance is 3 pieces 70lbs each per person. Hope that helps! Thanks!
  17. You are very welcome!!! If you find other things on there you need or where going to buy eventually anyway, it makes it soo totally worth it, and the shipping prices are great!
  18. Hi Natalie, The pack from costco, is that with lanyards included? It just seems a little pricey to me.. Vertical however would be just as good! I ordered mine from 8seasons.com and literally bought 70 of them for just over 5 dollars. Having said that though, the only catch was that on that wholesale website you need a minimum of a 50$ Purchase. I was fortunate in that they had a bunch of other things i ended up buying from there too so i was able to make up the 50 bucks. Ie: i bought the lanyards to go with the cards, I bought some organza bags in my wedding colors for my kits, and i bought some gift bags for the attendant gifts, etc... Hope that helps!! If you have other things that maybe that site can also offer you, it may be way cheaper doing it that way as you will get a whole lot more for your money.
  19. Hi DramaticAnnie, I did alot of research before booking with Air Canada Vacations.. there were several factors that led us to choose ACV. We loved the fact that we get the free upgrade to first class.. which allows us more leg room, and more luggage allowance. That and the price was decent.. So then we went through the process of comparing it to other companies to see what we would do. We went to Westjet Vacations ( was a whopping 300.00 MORE than ACV quoted me, per person. for one week.. and they don't have first class.. AND that was not a direct flight from calgary to montego bay.. it was with a layover in toronto) We went to a few other travel agents even, and they quoted me higher prices also.. so i am not too sure if some TA's take a higher commission or what they do. We went to 3 different TA's and finally went with AMA Travel ad Air Canada Vacations, as they were alot cheaper.. and i am not even an AMA member... you dont have to be an AMA member to go through them. With us, it was every 20 people... but i know other companies and TA's may have different promotions.. i would just ask those questions when you do your research.. and try different TA's also!!!!! This is of course from Calgary, so it may be different in different places... Hope this helps!!!! Hi Amjohnson, Yes! it is definatly worth looking into!! as just the luggage and lack of line up when checking in etc.. is well worth it!! nevermind the extra leg space
  20. Yeah i found it a few days ago.. i went on a mission to find it! heheh and i bought them completely out of advil! i am still short 15 bottles though, so i will have to find more dollaramas lol Thanks for telling us about this location!!!
  21. I am not too sure to be honest, however Right in the Air canada Vacations travel book on weddings, it mentioned the bride and groom get a free upgrade. Once i chose my travel agent ( AMA Travel) For us, we got a free upgrade automatically, and then once 20 people booked we got to upgrade 2 more people to first class for free. She had stated that was through Air Canada Vacations and not AMA Travel.. So this is something you may definately want to look into! The extra luggage is going to be a life saver for us!!! Being that the FI and I have all of that, We gave my parents the free upgrade so they now too have all that luggage allowance, so we can use some of their space too if need be. Takes all the pressure off for sure!
  22. Hey Guys!! Thank you so much for all of your advice and ideas.. I went shopping here in Calgary and ended up finding my dress in LESS than an hour!! lol Thanks again!!!! I love this message board!
  23. The issue with handing them out at the airport is #1 if you have any tubes of liquid, ie: lotions or aloe gel.. the other thing is, if there are any nail files or scissors or pins or what not, in your first aid kits.. that would be another issue. Because we are going with air canada vacations, and we are flying first class ( free upgrade for bride and groom) we are allowed Three 70 lb bags each... ( i know.. crazy!!) BUT that has allowed us to take one big bag ( or even rubbermaid container i am thinking) full of wedding stuff.. and then whatever doesn't fit in that i can squeeze into my FI and my suitcase.. That way i can hand them out to everyone at the welcome drinks thing..
  24. My Guests and I are staying at the Beach and that is where we are getting married, but We were told that anyone staying at the any of the Iberostars, would not have to pay for a day pass.. Is that not the case if you were getting married at the suites but staying at the Beach? I would think they would all be the same and have access to them during the wedding day?!
