  1. Congrats and welcome!!! This site is absolutely amazing and will help you so much along the way! Use the search function at the top and you can read what others have been saying on similar topics! A few things I would recommend: - choose a travel agent that specializes in destination weddings AND that you are comfortable with (we went through 5 agents before finding one that understood our expectations and was willing to work with us, also she actually ANSWERED our emails which was sort of important to us! lol) - if budget is important to you for your guests (ie. travel costs for them) I suggest going the all inclusive route and then searching different sites to get an idea of pricing. Tripcentral.ca was a huge resource for me, they do a grid and you can narrow it down by destination, hotel, month, week etc and get great ideas of price. If you end up getting a good TA they will get you an even lower price then you see online! - ITS YOUR DAY! Don't forget that. People may not be able to come and you will likely get a lot of "slack" for having a DW from family and friends. You have to do what is best for you and satisfy your "vision" for the day!! Happy Planning!!!
  2. J and G thanks for letting us know! I may look into those too!! I just find the online prices end up working out to the same price as if we bought them in store and then there is shipping (and possible duty!) so I think we are just going to but them somewhere.... $5 a mug seems standard and if you can get a decent quality one for that I think it's great!
  3. Chapa, where did you get married? I wonder if my resort rents vases, we found great ones for $2 but I would almost rather pay the $5 and not worry about bringing them down!
  4. I know the beginning of this thread offers two links to threads that discussed budgets but the links don't seem to work! I thought I would bump this to see if 1) anyone knows of these threads and 2) Maybe we can get a budget discussion going again! I am starting to think my budget isn't realistic to get what we want!
  5. Oh!!! You're getting married in mexico... I wish I could remember where I read it, if I come across it again I will definitely send you the link but one girl bought her hurricane vases at a market (i think) 10 mins from her resort for like NOTHING!! Now that I think of it, it may have been on this thread! I am getting married in DR and unless I hear about someone else buying there and can plan for it in advance I would be too nervous I would be disappointed when I couldn't find what I wanted. If you can get a referral from someone I would say BUY THERE! soooooo much less stress!
  6. Haha gotta love the background lurkers! If I saw a wedding was going on I would stay so far away and give them their privacy! Some people!
  7. Oh and for the noobs... it is NOT necessarily cheaper. At least that has been my experience. Even if you choose a destination wedding at an all inclusive... the wedding part is not generally ALL inclusive. I know most of our guests think we are doing this to save money but in the end it is costing us about the same as if we were doing it at home. SO if you are choosing a DW to save money... yes you can save some but in the end the difference is not as significant as you may think. Just my experience!
  8. First of all prettypigpig LOL the freeloading guest with their kids and fat wife make me literally LOL Now onto our decision to do a DW: - I have always wanted to get married on a beach - when we got engaged we were living in Halifax, I am originally from Toronto and FI is from Ottawa so no matter what we did people would be travelling so we decided why not all travel to a sunny paradise - we wanted a low key, stress free (as much as possible) day that wasn't a "production" as J-me mentioned. - we wanted each and everyone of our guests to feel special and involved. Too often I have been to weddings where the couple doesn't even say hi or if they do it is in the receing line when they basically don't even know who they are talking to! - we didn't care if it was just us or the 230 people (just family and close friends) that we invited either way it would be special and us - Lastly... and I am surprised no one else has mentioned this but the PARTY! We love the idea that our wedding will be remembered as a week long party/vacation!!!
  9. I am no help with photoshop, we designed ours in powerpoint because I found it easier to work with but I just saved the blank boarding passes with no text or anything as an image and imported it into powerpoint. If you use the search function you may be able to find some information about using it with photoshop but this way should probably work for you too!
  10. These are amazing!!!! Better than our shots and we had a photog behind the camera! LOL congrats and happy planning!
  11. Glad I found this! I always see so much great inspiration but also forget to bookmark it! Now I will have this as a reference!
  12. Yay!!!! More Feb 2012 brides!!! What have you guys done so far? How many guests are you expecting?!
  13. Great thread! We will be having Pastor York as our minister for our beach wedding in February and he offered 2 fantastic options but these allow me to add a bit of a "personal" touch to it!
  14. Leigh we may need to start our own thread where the three of us can just discuss and vent with one another! lol
  15. I LOVE the shoes!!!!!! Your dress is gorgeous!! I am so nervous I am going to choose the wrong one!
  16. Both the invite and the photo are fantastic! But on a serious note, does anyone know where I can find that dress? It is exactly what I have been looking for! LOL
  17. Found this thread http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/20256/transporting-glass-vases/10#post_1611998 Hopefully I did this right, never posted a link to another thread before. If it's not right just search transporting glass vases. It looks like I will be carrying them on. They aren't huge so I am thinking a carry on roller suitcase for each FI and I and we should have it covered! Hope this helps you Islandgirl!
  18. So glad I found this! I was wondering if you were able to carry glass onboard so it looks like that will be what we're doing just to be safe!
  19. Congratulations! Would love to see some wedding pictures!!! Your planning looks great so I am sure your day was beautiful!
  20. Congrats! was Rodrigo the resort DJ or did you hire him separately?
  21. They look great! Proti007 did you get the ones from staples recently? I didn't think staples even carried this type of stuff!
