February 2012 Brides!!!!!!
torilynnsmith replied to torilynnsmith's topic in General Wedding Planning Information
We havent booked DJ yet... still trying to justify the cost. DJ Mannia is $900 + $180 for the passes for them to come on the resort..... for 2-3 hours it seems like a lot! We haven't booked the Semi Private dinner... though we would love a private dinner it is just too costly! We will be having the private reception at the wet bar! Fired up b2b - you get married 2 days after us! I am sure we have talked about this already but I totally forget and I think you are the closest date I have seen to ours!!! Danceraz - contact your wedding coordinator and ask about photographer... they may need them to stay on the resort as a "guest" but at least you will get a straight answer! -
Thanks Jenn! My biggest concern is that if I don't keep pushing for shoes there will be NO SHOES! We were doing their outfits as their gift but at this time I am thinking they will jsut get the dresses because I can't be bothered anymore! I totally agree not to sweat the small stuff but I know the one will be on me in January asking what we are doing for shoes.... *sigh* You might want to give us more information... what resort, where... why you are decorating yourself?! Oh Laurelyn I am so so sorry to hear this... how frustrating... Maybe they will give you a 50% refund or something and you can get them altered?! OMG Janet I would be so annoyed..... If I didn't have enough OOTs (wont be bringing more then guests I know about) I would just so... ohhh sorry your "nice surprise" cost you a seat and a favour HAHA just kidding!!!! Your day is so soon!!!! Keep Calm and Carry on!!!!

The Le Chateau suit didn't fit FI, he is a hockey player and le chateau has a slimmer cut so his legs wouldn't fit in the pants... also they didn't make jackets bigger than a 40 and their 40 is more like a 36/38.... we ended up finding his at international clothiers. Another bride got her FIs there so we went to check it out. The whole suit was $99, we will need to get it hemmed but other than that it is perfect!!!!! Square One in Mississauga has about 4 stores that are under the International Clothiers umbrella, they all sell the suit for $99.... all the linen pants were on sale too if you wanted separates for your guys that matched the groom I think they were $12.... We got our linen pants for the GM at Old Navy, ordered online to get their waist and inseam sizes and couldnt be happier... AMAZING quality!

Glad you ladies found the site helpful!!!! Unfortunately my girls didn't go for any of the shoes I liked.... I think I am giving up on them. A little bit of a vent but I am getting seriously frustrated! I asked them to find shoes they like and no one has done anything so I spent the better part of a day sending them different options and they don't really have an opinion except ones they DONT like.... I really dont care, I just want you to have shoes!!!! UGH!!!! Frustrating!

Hi Ladies! I have spent the majority of the morning trying to figure out shoes for my BMs and I thought I would share with you that Locale Shoes (formerly Feet First) has a TON of great shoes on sale right now. This is a CANADIAN company with FREE SHIPPING to CANADA!!!! Yay!!!! That NEVER happens!!!! I believe Aldo bought them out so this explains it but I just wanted to share as there are great options for both men and women. We did flip flops for our guys but the loafers and boat shoes are on so cheap I am tempted to get those too!!! They also have lots of fun colours for anyone looking for coloured shoes, tons of wedge options so that the ladies dont sink in the sand etc. just wanted to let you all know as I think I am going to be able to get my girls their shoes for $25 EACH!!!! Under $100 for 3 pairs of shoes... can't beat that!!! http://www.localeshoes.com/ca-eng

Glad to hear they worked so well! I am sure our guests will really appreciate them once they see the benefit of having them! -
Hi Lauren, Congratulations, it sounds like your planning is coming along nicely. Just wanted to mentioned that The Majestic Elegance is NOT exclusively Adults Only, there is an Adults Only section that you can pay extra to be a "member" of for your stay where children are not welcome but there are children allowed at the resort. As for your other questions... I am assuming you are in the US as here in Canada we book our Flight and Hotel as a "package". I feel a good TA goes along way but it is not always easy finding a great TA. A destination wedding specialist is your best bet as they understand different aspects of your planning process that a regular TA wouldnt. I am with JazLiz on the favour front, we are foregoing traditional favours and just doing OOT bags, Bubba Mugs are our BIG item in our OOT bags and what we splurged on, the idea is that this is what people will take home and use again and again. Putting together the "wedding week survival kits" was my favourite part so far! Love the starfish, lanterns seashell idea. We have really embraced white into our colour scheme and I am loving playing up the beach and vacation feel! Best of luck and happy planning!!!

Natalie, I was just showing off your wedding highlight video to my mother in law!! I have to ask, where did you get your bridesmaid dresses? They look like J crew "Taryn" or "arabelle" but I wasn't sure! -
Not sure if there is a Hobby Lobby in Buffalo, I looked but never tracked one down. Another good spot is "The Christmas Tree Store (Shop?)" it is on niagara falls blvd. A lot of brides have been getting their shells and starfish there! Dollar Tree has lots of stuff, there are a million in buffalo (i went to 7 tracking down the OOT bags) they have 2 playing cards for $1 (may be 3 for $1.25) and other oot stuffers. They are not always the "fanciest" or cleanest looking spots but definitely worth checking out! Let me know what OOT specific items you are looking for and I will share a list of all my buffalo finds. I basically did my entire OOT bags over the border!

I love the navy and the new purple!!! The one's I have visited had lots of the steel/grey blue! I went to one this morning with no purple or navy luck so I am off to 4 more stores now, lucky to be in another city today!!! -
Oh the RSVP frustration, rest assured you are not alone, and it is not just because it is a post card rsvp or a destination wedding. My best friend who got married in july got 1/3 of her RSVPs back. The rest of the people either emailed, called or told her in passing! HOW FRUSTRATING! You spend all this money on postage just for it to be wasted! That being said, I would send an email or give a call to EVERYONE you haven't heard from or who hasn't made their deposit that HAS rsvpd. The reason I say this is because we sent our invites in May just before the postal strike hit, well this week I was talking to one of my good friends from university and she asked how the wedding planning was going. Now I am always very hesitant to ask people if they are coming since it is an expensive trip and I really don't want to put that pressure on people, well for some reason I asked "Are you and Jay going to be able to make it?" silence... "Well we dont have any of the details" SHE DIDNT GET HER INVITE!!!!!!!! Why why why didn't I follow up with people!!!!!!!! This was past our group booking date, luckily our TA will still accept bookings just at the current rate (hasn't changed thankfully) I would tell everyone to follow up with their guests, we have found out of 3 invites so far that haven't gotten delivered!!!! I was so upset, she thought she wasn't invited!!!! We didn't make our RSVP date until November as we don't care if people book through our TA or independently but for our Feb wedding I would like to know in November so we can do place cards, confirm OOT bags etc. CALL our follow upw ith your guests, had we sent invites out way in advance and whatnot I probably would have sent a post card "reminder" letting people know that the RSVP date is approaching, this way if an invite didn't make it, they lost it, or forgot at least you are sharing a friendly "reminder" and a thank you for those guests who have RSVPd! Sorry you are so frustrated, I can totally appreciate where you're coming from! Definitely check in with people!!!!

what shoes to wear
torilynnsmith replied to BISCUITS's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
If you are looking for info on a specific resort try a search for that resort, almost every resort has SEVERAL threads started and that way you will be in direct contact with brides from your specific resort!!! Good luck ladies and happy planning! -
We are most likely doing a "semi private" restaurant dinner followed by a private reception. Though I would love to have a private dinner it is $70 a plate PLUS alcohol per person per hour. I just find it hard to dish out that amount of money at an ALL INCLUSIVE resort. I know almost all or all of our guests are assuming everything is included and to spend over $5000 to have an entirely private event just doesn't seem worth it. I would rather give every guests $100! Since we have had more people book than expected, even our "included" dinner is now costing us but it is only $10 a person as opposed to the $60 + booze......

What are you walking down the Aisle to?
torilynnsmith replied to reevesbride's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Love this!!!!!! I totally forgot about lifehouse and used to be so in love with their music.... this is a great one!!!! I don't think it is too slow... as long as you don't want to do the traditional "step together step together" you can totally do it! You may have changed my mind hearing this one!!! At my girlfriends wedding in July the bridesmaids and the bride walked to this and it really is so beautiful! -

Don't forget your coupons!!!!!!!! -
OoOOOOO I never thought to check there!! Thank's I will definitely check it out... then the other's wont be SO different!! I kind of wish I just did the same name badge ones everyone else is doing but since I already have over 40 of these ones I have to stick with it. I was kind of afraid if I gave others the clear ones people would wish they'd gotten those!!!! This could be my saving grace!!! Thanks Natalie!!!

I think it will be hard now that the "sandal" season is over. Try bridal shops maybe.... Love these flip flops where'd you find them?
