  1. Hello fellow brides! Just letting you know that I was at Michaels today and they had a whole bunch of Kate Spain and other things for 50 cents by the cash registers. I ended up getting playing cards and a two pack of emery nail boards for 50 cent apiece... 30 playing cards and 30 2 packs of nail files ended up costing me 26.00 bucks not sure if they have them at all the Michaels but definitely worth checking out!
  2. Sounds like you are ahead of the game! Busy busy I've seen those message in a bottle invites, they look amazing! You should post a picture here. Our planning is coming along. Settled on the date, booked the venue, found an amazing travel agent who got us group pricing at the Bahia for our group. I built a website from scratch using wix.com, we are launching it tonight as save the dates are getting mailed out tomorrow! Booking a mariachi band and DJ this Friday and then moving onto decor... We are having to move fast as we just got engaged last month but really wanted to get married 11/11 as it's both of our favourite numbers... So lots of decision to be made. But we also have been together for 8.5 years so it's not like we are rushing into getting married hahaha. Going dress shopping here in a few weeks, finally settled on colour and bridesmaid dress... Donna morgan spearmint, letting the girls choose what style they want. Just little decisions as we move along. Next will be decor like I said and food! What colors did you choose for your wedding? We are doing navy, mint and gold. I plan on bringing down table runners, battery powered tea lights and these adorable lanterns from pier 1... The rest I will rent. Definitely want a lot of tiki torches and light around, I think in pictures from the Blue Venado it looks gorgeous. Did you guys settle on a time to get married? We are getting married at 4:30 so we have an hour for pictures before the sun goes down. If there are still people there, that's ok, there was going to be people watching at the resort anyway!
  3. I'm getting married on a Tuesday. I see no issues with it. We started dating on a Tuesday, got engaged on a Tuesday and now are getting married on a Tuesday
  4. I am interested in the starfish as well as the tea lights Please and thanks!
  5. My epic dance moves. Not sure yet. I'm having a Mariachi band play for cocktail hour and to have them come out right after the ceremony is over behind everyone and surprise them Besides that, still trying to figure things out with our wedding coordinator. A lot of people are having the churro cart but that's not really our thing, so maybe we can do something different? I was even debating having our late lunch be pizza ordered from Dominos in playa del carmen LOL!!
  6. Hi ladies, I wanted to give my girls something personalized however something they could use again so I came up with three things to give my girls.... I have a $125.00 budget per girl. 1) Rollerball perfume's from sephora. they range from 30-40 dollars 2)Sephora gift certificate. In case they want to buy something before the trip. I'm loading it up with 50.00 3)Toiletries bag, not a tacky one. I pinned one but I can't find it now. Anyway - I'm going to put the perfume and gift certificate and some candy from bulk barn in the bag and then give them it before the trip for the girls who live here I know the FI is giving his guys sunglasses.
  7. I agree as well, a resort is where you are going to want to be for a wedding if you aren't concerned about drinks or music, as your guests can walk to one of the bars or you can even have your meal at an a la carte, where drinks and food are included. When I was looking into resort, Now Jade & Now Sapphire as said above had private areas for receptions as well as the ceremony. The barcelo is pretty nice as well, not as private but is a big resort (4 in 1) so more choices. There are tons of threads on here on various resorts, have a look around Happy planning as well!
  8. I hope so. I know with summer our weekends are going to fill up fast, so I am trying to get as much done as I can now before I blink and three months go by! But I am sure it will all come together. Are you renting decor from Mrs HK or from a coodinator? I haven't found that out but that's good there is an option because not everyone likes chicken/steak/fish. The menu looks amazing, it will be hard narrowing it down. Definitely let me know afterwards how the food was, may influence our decision. As far as preferred vendor, I didn't think they had any either? I got a few emails after I booked the site but that's about it. I was sold on the fact like awhiteside said above that there is no extra fee for outside vendors. That way we can bring our own in and not worry about it.
  9. I didn't go with Paradisus, I went with Joyce from Dream Weddings, you will find lots of excellent reviews on her on here, I'm happy with my choice. Kristee from Fresa weddings has excellent reviews as well, I would check her out. Daymar is also very wonderful, she is the wedding coordinator there and she will work with whoever you choose. I know her and Joyce have worked previously, which is awesome since they already have a working relationship. I believe a few other brides on here are using Joyce as well.
  10. lol not at all. I guess we still have 8 months to go, just taking the wedding coordinators lead on this and just booking things as they come up - going to narrow down a DJ and entertainment these next few weeks and hopefully reserve some decor. I'm bringing down some of my own just because the savings outweigh the hassle here.. Found 2.53 cent table runners - good enough if I am using them once! And my cousin works at pier 1 and can get a discount on these lanterns I like, so why not. I am going to rent some lighting from MrsHK on here and maybe a few other things as it will start to get heavy if I bring too much down! I've heard really great things about the shrimp bisque on here.. I'm thinking we may get that for our starter. Did you get a 3 course meal or 4 course? I didn't know if you could have a choice between 3 different options for meat...
  11. Yeah at first I wanted to drag it out but my FI made me see that this way there is no dragging out or people with their opinions butting in LOL. Things are coming together and hopefully they continue to! I'm waiting for the group pricing costs and rooms, once we get that I will breathe alot easier! I might be headed to Edmonton that weekend but if not I will defintiely try! Getting married in the Mayan on Nov 11/14. Staying at Bahia principe and getting married off the resort at the blue venado
  12. I'm bringing down table runners, gold lanterns, tulle for the chairs, battery powered candles and battery powered tealights.
  13. How long will I love you - Ellie Goulding I love it. and The FI has no idea what song I am picking which is even better.
  14. Hello! Planning is going good, it's kind of fast as we decided to get married this year after getting engaged 3 weeks ago tomorrow, so we have to make quick decisions! But it's coming together. I have the venue booked, deposit paid, guest list figured out, STD's ordered, website completed and we are working on group pricing this week for our wedding. Tons of fun though Haven't been to any that were in January/February but I know there is one in Okotoks on the 20th.. I didn't know about the one at the Blackfoot Inn though! Might have to check that one out, thanks
  15. I'm bringing some of my own décor down if anymore brides from November happen to be on here!
  16. Hey all! We are getting married 11/11/2014 at the Blue Venado! save the dates are ordered, booking a block of rooms hopefully this week and then more deposits to go down for more wedding stuff.... Fun!
  17. Actually, I live in Okotoks but Calgary is close
  18. That's what my thought is.. either orchids or something, you can get them for cheap at walmart or Sam's club and then donate them
  19. I partially agree with Pookie20 in some aspects. I was in a wedding last year and had to fork out travel expenses, hotel expenses, pay for hair and makeup and everything.. when it all came down to the traveling it was $3000.00. and all I got was a bracelet and a toiletry bag. I had shelled out a shit ton of money for this wedding, and wasn't expecting much but c'mon. Show some appreciation for people who are in your bridal party. We are getting married in mexico and people have known this for many many years, so it's no surprise. At the moment, with switching jobs I can't afford to pay for the girls bridesmaids dresses but for the wedding, I am spending 150.00 each for a bridal gift, plus paying for hair and makeup, plus we may take them on an excursion. I know how much everyone is paying to come to our special day and I would never just give them a high five and a mug that says thanks for being in my wedding. Personal opinion but that's just me!
  20. I was thinking of getting potted flowers for our centerpieces.. Just because I’m not a huge flower person – Don’t get me wrong I am a girl, I love flowers but I feel bad that they get cut and then die! Lol J Do you think that would look tacky for our beach side wedding? I must note we are getting married off the resort... What I am thinking is getting potted flowers from Sam’s club or somewhere or having my wedding coordinator find some and then after the reception, donating them to a hospital or care home. Thoughts ladies?
  21. That's so exciting! Our wedding date is November 11th of this year I LOVE the venue. I seriously cannot wait to have my reception there, I'm so excited for you too! What food did you end up going with if you don't mind me asking? Sorry I might have questions for you!
