  1. Hi Ladies, Hawaii tends to be a pretty expensive location to wed! There are planners outside of Maui that can help you and not charge extra for using the vendors the recommend. We have service fees but take no commissions from your wedding, there are others like us out there! Good Luck!
  2. Welcome to the site ladies! We are a Toronto based planning agency and are here to help! Are any Toronto brides attending the Civilized Bride show this month?
  3. Hi Ladies! Just wondering if any Toronto brides are planning on attending The Civilized Bride bridal show on Friday, October 21st?
  4. Hi Ladies, I just wanted to comment here because I was at the Hard Rock last year. First of all, you've all made a great choice on this property - especially if you have a large group (and you like gambling). The casino at the Hard Rock is the biggest and most elaborate casino in the DR with a full sports book, tables, slots, etc. It's really a lot of fun for an evening activity and especially with a group. Since the Hard Rock name came in, they filled it with all the fun rock and roll paraphernalia, which is pretty cool (like Madonna's pink limo!!). Something a little bit different than a typical caribbean resort. It was indeed a former Palace resort, so you can expect the high standards from that company as well in the rooms. It's a very large property, but that means lots of space to wander, many restaurant choices including a sushi spot, and lots of space and choice for your wedding locations! That is a bonus of a larger resort - good luck to the upcoming brides!
  5. Jamaica is a great option! There are a wide range of resorts to choose from - from all-inclusive resorts like the RIUs - to luxury spots like Round Hill and Half Moon to more unique places like Moondance Villas. What's your group size/wedding style/ideal type of ceremony? Also, you need to consider the price range of what you'd like your guests to spend. This would help narrow down your choices?
  6. I have to agree with the crowd (and sorry to echo the bunch but they are right)! From an etiquette point of view, it's the bride and groom's responsibility to pay for the guest's meals. It's a blessing that guests are spending money to attend your destination wedding, so you absolutely must pay for this and be so happy that people are joining you for your DW. Good luck!!
  7. Cynlee143, if you're getting married at the Bahia Principe Akumal, then keep in mind it's quite a trek to Playa for the whole wedding group. Al Cielo would be much closer, or check out the Ana y Jose Beach Club in Tulum. Just a few suggestions if you're planning on going this route.
  8. Congratulations!! Definitely find a travel coordinator to help you with this decision. Searching online for the perfect property can often be overwhelming and misleading. A destination wedding expert can offer you their professional opinion based on your budgets and what type of property you are looking for!
  9. I agree!! What a wonderful post! Online 'deals' and group rates is the greatest stressor with planning a destination wedding, in my opinion, and it becomes our job to educate brides and all of their guests!
  10. In my professional experience and having planned hundreds of destination weddings, the guests are most often the biggest stressors!! Whether it is trying to book outside of the group or telling you that they have tried to book but the TA hasn't gotten back to them (when they have never actually tried, they are just embarassed to say that they haven't). It is important to stay calm within these situations and remember that it will all work out and your wedding will be amazing!! Family and friends can be extremely demanding when it comes to travel and money, remember to stay focused on what is important to you! As some brides have mentioned in this forum, response time from WC's can be very slow. This is why clients hire us to take care of the planning for them and let them know about wedding options the WC wouldn't have otherwise told them! Remember, the world is your oyster!
  11. Congratulations to you all! What a great choice for a wedding - it's really one of my favorites. We've helped planned many weddings here and we've always received such great feedback. Azul Beach is laid back and casual but at dinnertime they don't want guests showing up to the restaurants in bathing suits/cover ups and flip flops, looking like you just came up from the beach. So nothing formal or fancy, just be smart about what you wear for dinner! Let me know if you have any other questions.
  12. Welcome to the forum! One of our favourite locations to plan Hindu weddings is in the Mayan Riviera. Not only can you get great Indian Catering but there are a lot of accomodating vendors. We personally hire a Hindu Priest from Miami who gives our clients a special rate so it ends up being more cost effective than using the one that is located in the area. Dominican Republic and Jamaica can also accomodate Indian weddings well!
  13. Congratulations Canadian Dawn and Welcome to the Forum! There are great TA's on this website to help you with all your planning needs as well. You will love all the support you get from fellow brides, they are awesome! Punta Cana has many great all inclusive options. Definitely go with a hotel that can facilitate your wedding vision as well, all of the hotels are different and have different offerings! Happy Planning!
  14. This sounds terrible!! I'm glad that you have found some great help Asayle. You can also find planners in the U.S. and Canada who are very experienced (and have the same sense of urgency and professionalism as you do) that can help you with all the ceremony and reception details.
  15. I am sorry that you ladies have had trouble with your TA's. Our policy at LUXE is to send out a weekly spreadsheet updating you as to who exactly has booked or inquired. The travel aspect of planning a destination wedding can often be the most stressful part! I think it is important to remember that not all TA's are bad, obviously the BDW TA mentioned here is proof of that! My advice would be to just stay on top of them and voice your concerns and expectations so that you are on the same page!
  16. Wow! We are wedding planners here at LUXE and since we charge a service fee, we do not take any commissions from any vendors. Good job on calling the vendors yourself Larisa, though hiring a planner should generally mean that you do not have to do all that work! I guess everyone should ask a prospective coordinator is their wedding will actually cost them more by going through them!
  17. Hi ladies, This is something that many brides go through! It is probably the most stressful part of the destination wedding planning. Everyone is giving great advice here as many guests do wait until the very last minute to book. We like to send out reminder emails with a deadline and remind everyone of what it means to the bride and groom. Rest assured that your guests will definitely begin to book! A friendly nudge never hurts
