i booked the 'renewal' wedding to avoid that situation AND because my fiance and i are going to get the 'legal' part out of the way here in the good ole USofA...i'd recommend doing that. of course, should you change your mind and decide to go the legal route, give them a call or email them about 4-6 months in advance..i bet they'll be happy to change it from the 'renewal' wedding to a legal one. please keep in mind that when you look for rates in 2012..they're going to be sky high...its usual that rates are priced that way when you're looking a year in advance..what i did was..use rates for the same part of the year, ie, i got engaged in july and knew i'd have an october 2011 wedding so last july, i looked at october 2010 rates and used that as a 'guide' for my guests. rates are usually best w/in 3-4 months prior to departure...at least that's been my experience. my fiance and i travel to jamaica every Fall and have been doing so for the last four years...frankly, in years past, i didn't book my travel until august...of course, this time around, i booked in march because we're getting married there 10.8.11..AND i wanted to assure my guests that i'd already booked...but right after i booked, the rates went down DRASTICALLY so my travel agent got us a cost adjustment (can u say great job for the TA??) another thing to think about is...iberostar is a higher priced resort BUT soooooo well worth the $$$...i've stayed at Sandals Montego Bay, Breezes Runaway Bay and Iberostar Rosehall Suites...and to be frank...IBEROSTAR was the BEST HANDS-DOWN...now, don't get me wrong...we enjoyed Sandals and Breezes was fun too..but for our wedding, we wanted our guests to have an "optimal" experience. most of our guests have never left the USA so the mere thought of them traveling made me want to ensure that they would have the BEST experience for the $$$...so, if you can afford it...go for it! :-) no matter your choice, you're in jamaica...so, as the locals say...its all NO PROBLEM, MON! :-) happy planning! AfricanVenus & Others... i hope the fact that people haven't booked isn't your indication of their friendship...i'm learning throughout this DW process that some folks just can't 'afford' to travel, ie, they don't work (often or at all) or they have young kids without a babysitter or the means to travel with their children or they're afraid to travel or they're on a fixed income and too proud to beg or tell you the truth...it could be a number of factors and yes, it sucks..especially when most have had over a year to plan or 'layaway' their vacay BUT, its all good..my thought is..whoever is there was supposed to be there...so i've chalked that one up. i'd have to say, my biggest stressor has been the dress...i bought one dress then decided it simply wasn't 'fabulous' enough for the Iberostar Rosehall Beach wedding i'd committed to, so i bought another..another stressor is the travel coordination for my kids..my fiance and i have four adult (i use that term loosely) kids...one is still in college, another is in law school and then our youngest two are high school seniors who all live with our ex-spouses...so trying to get them all there within the same timeframe has been difficult..but doable. happy planning, all!!! hey all, 2011 and 2012 iberostar rosehall brides! i've got an idea..there's a thread called starfish passing thread where brides who i believe are all marrying in Mexico are passing around a blue or clear starfish to add to each bride's bouquet..i guess it serves as 'something borrowed'..anyway, the girls are sending it to each other and using it in their weddings and i thought, hmmm..i bet we IBEROSTAR ROSEHALL brides could do that..and instead of having to send it in the mail upon our return, maybe we could simply leave it at the hotel with the next bride's WC so that they could turn it over to that bride..now, its just a thought but i wondered if you all might be interested in starting a 'something borrowed' tradition... thoughts??? futuremrstgun replied to angel366's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
i was worried about traveling with my engagement ring when i did my site visit last year but i found that no one gave me any grief. this year, i may travel with a fake but i dunno..i'd have to find one that i really liked...plus if there was an issue, isn't that what insurance is for??? although, it might be kinda fun to find a real HONKER of a rock. lol! :-) R~ -

my passport expires BEFORE the wedding..so we're going to marry before the actual ceremony and i'll change EVERYTHING (driver's license, passport, car registration, etc.) all at one time...so much paperwork...but i'm sooooooo looking forward to a brand new name! :-) R~
