good evening, ladies! i just want to say..THANKS for the lovely words of encouragement..i'm 6 weeks away from my big day and most of my planning is coming to an end...i'm excited, scared and anxious..all at once! excited that my wedding day is fast approaching.. scared...or should i say hopeful that everything will go as planned and if it doesn't..scared i'll turn into a bridezilla. anxious..for the big day to get here (already)!! as i prepare for my big day, having this forum as an outlet has been encouraging and so helpful..i've tapped into my inner martha stewart, grown considerably in my faith and how i deal with friends and even strangers and made online friends with a number of AMAZING women... thank you all for allowing me to put my thoughts, my projects and even some of my angst out into the world wide web..its been REAL... ok..so now that i've gotten that outta the way..BACK TO DIYing, i go... until next time, happy planning, all!!! hello ladies! i bought ALL of my starfish from two BDW brides..not sure of the size...one batch (the one i dyed) are real..and one batch (i spray painted those) are fake...some of my starfish are quite large..probably 5 inches and then the others are small...2 to 3 inches... i've seen them all over though...ross, marshalls, etc..i don't think we have an xmas store here..but i'll be on the lookout from now on. i'm not doing placecards as i want my guests to sit where they want..but i love the idea of using them as placecards..one other thing you might consider is attaching a magnet to the back with a dob of glue and voila..not only will they serve as placecards but then they can become a refrigerator magnet..a nice reminder of the great time folks had at your wedding in paradise. ;-) i'm pretty sure i'll be doing that for some of mine..which will be given with our welcome packets upon check-in at the hotel. until next time, happy planning!!! hi, redginger... if the starfish and/or sand dollar are genuine sealife and porous then yes they can be dyed. if they are ceramic and/or fake starfish, spray painting is best. i spray painted my fake ones metallic silver...and they turned out much better than dying... until next time, happy planning!! good morning, ladies! now that my OOT/welcome bags are pretty much done...just gotta assemble them...which i'm doing...five down...10 more to go. today, i plan on focusing on my decor. i'm absolutely obsessed with shades of purple and platinum/silver...with a little black thrown in for good measure. most of my decorations will be in the purple and platinum colors..so today, i'm dyeing starfish... yes, ladies..dyeing starfish. i bought some white starfish here on BDW.com and well, since everything has to COOOOORRRRDDDDIIIIINNNNNNAAAATTTTEEEEE...they simply had to be dyed...here's a look at what i did... its pretty simple..i used wilton food coloring..followed the directions on the box for dyeing easter eggs and voila...my starfish are now a beautiful shade of purple. ok, that's it from here... until next time, happy planning!! R~ ps...here's the SEW IN LOVE kit (aka the sewing kit)

i've decided to hand deliver the OOT bags to those who live locally, ship OOT bags to those out of town guests and then hand deliver the other bags to our east coast guests while in town over labor day weekend. i'm hoping having the OOT bags beforehand will excite our guests and allow them to 'enjoy' a taste of what's in store in jamaica plus, i'll personally avoid undue stress about shipping, extra bags, etc. the items i'm taking with me to jamaica include decorations and some other guest info like a welcome kit which will include the resort map, a sewing kit, itinerary at a glance, etc. all lightweight items that should pack in carry-on or checked bags, easily. good luck and happy planning, ladies!!
