  1. I keep on getting the VoiceFive pop up ads! It's a square box ad, and keeps moving around my screen so it isn't easy to click the "x" box to close it. I have my pop-up blocker settings on, but it doesn't help. Can a BDW moderator check this out...it's so annoying that I just close BDW to log off.
  2. We're also looking at Couples San Souci or Towers Isle for our honeymoon, but won't be making a decision until later this year. Have you checked out the traveler reviews on TripAdvisor.com? You can also ask the same question in the Ocho Rios travel forum. Good luck!
  3. How are you ladies able to do your destination wedding within $10K to $12K? Are you also including the costs of your hotel accommodations, flights and honeymoon? We're having our wedding/reception at a boutique hotel, and about $5K is the cost of the dinner/open bar for 50 guests.
  4. Are you ladies planning to use your bridal bouquet for the TTD session too? I'm wondering if the fresh bouquet will be wilted the day after the wedding? If so, should I be getting silk or real touch flowers instead? Thanks!
  5. We did a simple website on mywedding.com and sent out electronic save-the-date announcements as soon as we decided on our wedding date and destination. We want to get the announcement out as fast as possible so our guests can block their vacation dates. This was so much easier and didn't cost us anything.
  6. Good idea about Michael's or another craft store. I'm not very talented with DIY projects like the many brides on this forum, so didn't even consider doing it myself! But, hey I will give this one a try and see how it goes...thanks!
  7. We would like two starfish as our wedding cake topper. I found this starfish topper, but want fake starfish (and without the wedding attire because my fiance thinks its look cheesy). If anyone has come across this, let me know. Thanks!
  8. Welcome GPBride! I'm a 2012 bride. I've been able to get our hotel and many of our vendors to honor their 2011 prices for us -- especially if their 2012 rates are not yet published and may increase. In my negotiations with vendors in Jamaica, I've found that everything is negotiable so don't go always go for the published rates!
  9. Hi JQLong, Yes, we're planning to contact the airlines directly about getting group discounts too. They don't offer significant discounts, but still helpful to provide our guests options. That's good to know about Continental's requirement. Thanks!
  10. Torilynnsmith: Are you using a TA for both your hotel and flights? Our hotel doesn't work with travel agents or tour operators, so we only need a TA for flights. I think this is a disincentive for TA to work with us because they aren't making huge commissions or profits on flights alone.
  11. Thanks for the feedback. We're finding better pricing from discounted travel websites, compared to pricing quoted by our TA and other agents. So, we'll probably just ask our guests to book on their own, which is less stressful for us to deal with.
  12. I think having a TA is helpful only if you're booking a package deal that includes both the resort and flights. We only need a TA for flights, and haven't found a TA that is interested or able to get us better group flight discounts than if we just booked directly through one of the major discounted travel websites.
  13. Our hotel has strange looking dining chairs, so we would like to rent white wooden folding chairs for our ceremony and reception. They said that we can rent them for $7 to $8 per chair (including delivery)...I think that's really too high! Does anyone have recommendations where we can rent them at an affordable price? Thanks!
  14. Soon2BeMrsG: Endless Summer and Half Moon are both gorgeous. I know how hard it is to pick a venue...so many decision factors. But when my fiance and I finally picked our hotel, it was such a big relief! After that, the wedding planning gets fun. Good luck!
  15. Mzthan6: Villa Sur Mer is a beautiful. We looked into this but it was outside of our budget :-( We went with a boutique hotel instead. Are you planning to hire a wedding coordinator?
  16. Is this you in the wedding gown? If that's you, you look absolutely gorgeous! Why do you want to cover up your arms...honestly, you look very fit and tone to me. I think the fuschia embroidery will give your dress such a nice pop and will look great with your skin tone. Sorry that your destination wedding didn't happen, but congrats on your upcoming wedding!
  17. I love the idea of wedding cupcakes...I think guests would enjoy them much more than cake, especially since you can choose multiple cupcake flavors and they can also take some back to their rooms. If your hotel or caterer is already providing desserts for your reception, perhaps cupcakes wouldn't be an additional cost if they are your desserts? I would have loved to have cupcakes, but my fiance absolutely must have a cake. Sigh!
  18. Hi, Did you find a bakery for the groom's cake? I haven't found many bakers in Negril, but here 2 two bakers in Montego Bay who deliver to Negril. It looks like they do these kinds of cakes or similar cakes. Bake A Wish http://bake-a-wish.com/grooms-cakes/ Cakes by Noida http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cakes-By-Noida/153568027989060
  19. If you want to increase your posts faster, go to the Ladie's Lounge - Random Thoughts forum. There are some games where you can answer with few word answers (and it's fun). Also, if you're reading threads already, why not comment on them if you like what you're reading :-)
  20. We're getting pricing right now from a woodcarver who has a little shop at a hotel on Negril beach. Not sure how long it'll take, but I can definitely share the price list with you.
  21. Jamaica is known for its wood carving. Perhaps you can give small wood carvings, like sea turtles, starfish, crocodiles -- which you can purchase from wood carving shops along Negril beach. They would also make nice table decorations. We're looking into this, but it may be costly depending on the number of guests.
  22. I'm also looking for inexpensive alternatives to chair covers and sashes. Any thoughts?
  23. I was wondering if anyone could share pricing or estimates for wedding cakes in Negril? Our hotel said that the pricing is generally based on per slice cost (i.e. $8 or $9 per slice and increases if you add on additional decorations etc), not so much the number of cake tiers. What is a reasonable cost? Thanks!
