  1. Hi Ladies, So I went to Dollarama today looking for Advil...they were out but I came out with lots of other stuff! The cutest thing I found that many of you may like is the little blue plastic suitcase container on wheels with a pullout handle. It comes with 6 mini markers and is 1.50$. I am going to take the markers out and use it for my first aid or sewing case! So far I bought just one for us but may put one together for bridesmaids...These containers come in blue or pink. The M&Ms in containers were only 69 cents each. Our colors are red and turquoise so I only got these two colors. I thought this would be a nice treat that won't melt as much as other chocolates. I also got the mentos. I saw the sesame snaps that were 2 for 1$. Nice snack if your blood sugar is low. Snacky foods aren't always easy to get at all inclusives without going to restaurant or having a meal. The red tulle ribbon is an amazing deal! 1$ This is a raspberry red, more our color but they have brick red, light blue. I bought a few others. I also stocked up on nice sea shells as it looks like they are gettting rid of them...maybe because summer is almost over;( The only other things I am planning on adding are the key holders and lanyards and booklet/program.
  2. Hi Tori, Great idea starting this thread! I just found it! I am not sure if you are getting real or silk/real touch flowers for your bridesmaids, but I thought I would share with you what our plan is for centerpieces and bouquets. Our resort charges crazy money for extra bouquets and from what other brides have said you are better going outside the resort for what you get for the price. So I am getting my bouquet included in the package and bringing an exact photo of what I want. I guess they will do exactly what you show them. Since we are renewing our vows back home and having a AHR, we are pretty sure we are going to do silk bouquets of white calla lilies or orchids for the BM bouquets. Mine will be similar but in red shades. I am going to rent vases from the resort to the right height, place some sand, shells in the bottom and place the bridesmaid bouquets in vases. My sister is a florist who used to have her own flower shop so she has offered to make them. I like your idea of tulle on table, simple yet elegant. Need to save space in the suitcases as those crazy Oot bags are going to take up a fair bit of room!
  3. Hi Jennifer, I look forward to hearing back from you. I was disappointed with the ones at Le Chateau and don't think I need to pay lots for better quality pashminas. I could check it out when I'm in Calgary on the 13th. Are you getting cream colored pashiminas? I like all the colored ones but thought the women would get more use out of the cream ones.
  4. OMG...you guys have 86 people booked, crazy! You must have lots of family n friends! Are you a teacher? Lots of my family is going away for family holidays ...a little frustrating but we didn't want a huge wedding on the beach.
  5. Oops forgot to post photos of lanterns-plug ins. Please let me know if you think it will be too much of a pain to get them plugged in outdoors at the resort. Thanks!
  6. Hi Ladies, I think I am going to call us the Canadian Ooters...lol I am so addicted to this stie and thread that I check this before Facebook...which is a better use of time in my mind! Camy47 thanks for the shopping tips! I was out shopping today, went back to BBW and for those of you going shopping today in Alberta?..not sure if their daily promos are province wide or country wide but ladies, you can always check with your local store. Promo today, spend 30$ or more and pay 20$ for this great gift bag. (70$ value)(see photos below). I was a little annoyed at myself as I was there yesterday and spent 20$. But I found enough stuff to buy 30$ worth today no problem! I also found these cool gift bags at BBW, they have a few colors but these go with our wedding colors and tropical looking. I am using them to hold my hair fasteners for the bridesmaids and their gifts, pashmina and jewelry. Bags 2.50$each These lanterns I know aren't for Oot bags but thought some brides who have green as a wedding color may like them. I think they look tropical, 5.99$ Shoppers' Drug Mart. Question for you ladies? I like the turquoise ones for me but not sure if it will be a pain to plug them in at our outdoor reception at the resort....thoughts? I didn't buy them for now. In the photos below, I included the tumbler glasses (plastic) that I bought at Superstore for 5$ each a couple weeks ago. I thought these would be easier to pack too as I can stack them one inside the other. Thoughts? They can be use for hot or cold drinks so I figured they would still be good! The Chicken soup for the soul for women I got at dollarama! Side note, all stores are having their sales on dresses right now! I bought a nice black one at Cleo....I store I thought more for my mom but all dresses 30% off...a lot at Sears too 30% off Tip for Canadian Teachers, RW Company is having a promo for teachers starting Aug 11 to 28th , you get 25% off with your teacher association card!!! So I am holding off to get a back to school outfit and maybe another sundress. There, done, need to put my wallet away!
  7. Thanks for the info on the pashminas Dramatic Anne, Do you mind if I ask how much you had to pay for shipping and duty? I live in Alberta so likely it would cost me a bit more? Silly question, are the tassles on the pashminas like looking? The reason I ask is that I almost bought some at Le Chateau today, 20$ or 15$ but the tassles looked messy and cheap. I know there are different qualities of pashminas too. I was at the mall and went to check out the swimsuit bags at La Vie En Rose. I would highly recommend these, nice looking, drawstring and only 1$. Photo above from one of the other brides. I decided to hold off for now as I am not sure that my guests would use them.
  8. Celtic girl, After rereading your post, I was thinking, if you got all the same stuff as me at Michaels, you could make one pretty much the same as mine. Honestly, it tooked 30 mins max and I think with getting things on sale it cost 15$!
  9. Thank you! I really enjoy making them. We'll see maybe I will consider taking orders. I see your wedding is coming soon! Check out the etsy site. There were some really nice ones that were only 50$ -75$ which isn't bad given that most in stores are 150$ and up. If you don't have flowers on your dress like me, any white flower fastener with a bit of bling and feathers would be nice. On etsy there was one I almost bought, they flower was made entirely out of feathers, and I think it was 60$, it had a bit of bling in the middle, perfect for a destination weddding Good luck with your last minute things to do!
  10. Ladies, Thank you for the feedback! I am glad you all seem to agree with me regarding the peacock fastener. It just doesn't look right. I had bought a goldish ":thing"that had a star/flower in the middle but the colors weren't right. I will have to keep looking! I won't send a photo to FMIL til it is complete. As for how hard it is, it is super EASY! Celticgirl, even you could do it. I found a DIY tutorial online, here is one of the sites I used. http://offbeatbride.com/2009/12/diy-floral-fascinator Where did I get my flowers and feathers? For my fastener and FMIL got the flowers at Michaels. For bridesmaids I found these at Fabricland in Canada, I think any fabric store would have them. They came in a few colours. They didn't look too pretty before...had ugly red beads in the centre. I used pliers to take the flowers apart, took centre of silk flowers out. I positioned feathers first, used barretts/hair clips I bought Michaels that have a flat face where you glue a piece of fabric to it then glue your feathers, then flower and beading etc. Feathers- The peacock feathers, and nice red ones I got at Michaels in the floral section. I lucked out as they have pick like things and the one I bought had the different red feathers and some peacocky spiky things. I found the peacock feathers after. I did use some regular white feathers I bought in craft section at Michaels. I found a White feather boa at dollarama (Canada) for 1$ and used the smaller feathers for filler here in there. My fastener, I found the centre metal flowers in the wedding section at Michaels. They are hair spiral pins and I got the 60% off! I used pliers and carefully took off the spiral part and glued it on after. I used a larger hair clip with teeth in it so it really stays in my hair as it is a bit heavier then the other ones.
  11. Here is the link to my thread. Thanks! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/74958/my-diy-hair-fasteners-please-check-them-out-and-give-your-feedback#post_1648573
  12. Hi Ladies, So I have been spending most of my time on this web site on this thread chatting and exchanging deals with you so I wanted to ask you to help me out! I posted a new thread in the DIY section with photos of the hair fasteners I have made. Do you mind taking a look and giving me your feedback? Thanks!
  13. Hi Ladies, So I started with making myself my own hair fastener when I couldn't find one that I loved, not to mention that they were all so expensive. I attached a photo of my wedding dress so you can see how it goes with the dress. I wanted the flower to go with the flowers on my dress. This photo doesn't do my dress justice! Since my fiance is from Scotland, it is a tradition for the women to wear posh hats or fasteners to weddings. Since bringing hats in luggage was not a good idea, I thought why not try to make fasteners for the bridesmaids. The satin flowers I used match the satin on part of the bm dresses exactly. Lastly, I made one for my future mother in law. Her dress has quite a bit of turquoise so I went with this color. My fiance is also wearing his kilt that has a nice turquoise/blue. She has quite a personality and short salt and pepper hair so I think the peacock feathers will love great on her hair. My only question/concern is the middle...not sure if it is enough bling? I bought something us to put there and it didn't look right so I used what I had at home. Feeback? Thanks!!!
  14. Neat! You are the first on here that has the same date as me! Boy, only 153 days...crazy! How is your planning going? A lot of people are getting married in Jamaica! Because most of our guests are here in the West, it made more sense to get married in Mexico. But I know Jamaica will be amazing!
  15. Neat story! He is from Glasgow, his parents live in Troon. He lived in Manchester for 7 years before moving here to Canada almost three years ago.
  16. Great idea!!! I am a teacher too and had issues this year with pencils disappearing!!! So I think I am going to take your mom's idea and glue the ugliest and biggest flowers on the top. The boys will definitely not want to keep them and will get more pencils quick.... You could also put some goop on the flower tops so they don't chew them...kidding..
  17. So disregard this last message as I didn't see you initial monogram. I like this one better! I do think I prefered the text underneath the image straight.. Again you are going to get lots of opinions so go with what you like best!
  18. I love your sea turtle image! I am just thinking if you faded the turtle a little, your initials would stand out...just a thought. I do love your colors? Do you mind if I ask where Bayahibe is? Whereabouts in the Uk do you live? My fiance is from Scotland. Do you mind checking my thread about my monograms that I posted a few days ago. Would love your feedback also!
  19. Not sure how to combine them all into a link. Why don't I send them to you via email. Or I can PM them to you right?
  20. Wow! You ladies put things in perspective for me because I am getting exactly one month before you Tori!!! So I am not too sure how many days left I have, but I know tomorrow will be exactly 5 months til our day!!! I am a teacher so I have been trying to get as much done this summer as I am going back to work soon and taking a night class. Jennifer, did you put your booklet together in word? Would you mind sharing it with me? Running out of time to focus on things like that as all my energy and creativity will have to go into my own class prep. Wedding planning is more fun. In regards to how we are handing out our Oot bags, we get in late on Jan 1. and some of our guests will already be there. So I have already asked at the resort if we can reserve a large table for breakfast and we'll do a welcome breakfast, let people know ahead of time. So the swim bags, were found at La Vie en rose right? for a 1$ Not at their Aqua store?
  21. Great idea! I am hoping to have all the buying done in the next week or so and labels done. I was going to pack the oot bags flat and do like you...get help assembling when we get there...while enjoying a margarita or two!!!
  22. Congratulations! I knew you did amazing monograms, I just discovered your DIY thread!!! I managed to come up with five different monograms. When you get a chance, do you mind checking out my thread. I would love your feedback. I want to add our date and destination somehow without making it look crowded. Happy planning!
  23. Tori, I gather it's the same as nimrod ....etc But I have never heard it before either. My fiance is from Scotland and the equivalent for them is twat.... Thanks for the feedback on my monograms. Now I can make labels and stuff for the oot bags. Did you say that you are putting almost everything together now and putting it in storage? I like that idea, but I also want to make packing my suitcases the easiest possible.
  24. LMAO...winder licker...never heard that one before...must be a Calgarian expression;) So yes I meant Bath and Body Works when I replied back with bbw. I went today and the mini sanitizers are 5 for 5$ right now and they have cool scents, mojitos(my favorite drink), peach, strawberry. Anyhow, I could of got carried away with lotion and candles but then I remember the post I read earlier today from the bride to be who packed all her stuff and had 8 bags!!! Yikes.
