To rent out any of the restaurants it's $45 per person for plated and then it ranges from $50-100 per person for buffet. The only dinner option that is free.. or included in your travel... is the non-private buffet or a-la-carte restaurants... so you have to share the restaurant with all other resort guests.
-
The only option is to have a non-private dinner with other guests in one of the restaurants. Otherwise, no.. there is no way around the extra charge per person. You are essentally paying the charge to rent the location and cover the private bar servce and food service... that you would otherwise not be entitled to receive at an all inclusive. Our private staff were fantastic and so much fun... they put on a show and made sure we were happy and satisfied with every course. For me, i thought it was well worth the extra money to have a private reception. Also... reardless of the ceremony package you choose... you can bring your own decorations to both the ceremony and reception. We brought our own centerpieces, name place cards and some other decorations for both the ceremony and reception. we also brought our own ipod dock. Theres a $500 to rent the ipod dock from the resort. they charged us $500 for a microphone and ipod dock for ceremony use only (not reception).... since we had the steel drum band we didnt need the ipod so we had that charge removed and we still had a microphone so im not sure if thats normally included or not... but dont waste $500 if u dont have to on this.... bring your own docking system.

I know you can rent out an entire restaraunt for the reception.. when we were there a wedding had the Lotus restaurant closed for their private wedding. I'm sure they paid lots more for that though. It did look nice... but I didn't get why you would spend that kind of money just to have your reception in a closed restaurant that doesnt have a view. Might as well just stay at home. If you want complete privacy go with Poseidon... at least its open air and has a view.. not to mention the most amazing sunset shots. The open air feel and views from the Blue Lagoon and Poseidon are absolutely beautiful. Air conditioning isn't a huge deal because there is always a breeze from the ocean, and they have ceiling fans to circulate the air. We never had a problem.. most of the resort is open air.

just and fyi... a "beach" reception is not really a beach reception. As far as i am aware... and unless they've chaned it since May ... a beach reception is actually set up on the volleyball court area... which is not part of the main beach. They will section it off and set up tables on the sand... and the bar will be the main pool bar. If you are looking for open air reception.. theres the rooftop patio area above the main pool bar. Depending on how many guests you have because its not a huge rooftop patio. Mind you.. the only wedding we saw that had a reception here... was rained out.

I got married May 10th of this year ... i posted a review of the resort in the review section... We went from May 5-12 .. the weather was perfect!!! it rained on friday but it was nice.. especially since our wedding was thursday. I shou,d mention that the week before we got there.. it was terible rain storms and horrible waether. so.. you really jsut dont know. BUT... the rain location which is the spa.. is absolutely stunning!!! i honestly would not have been disappointed if it did end up raining. it was so beautiful and open air.. marble floors and pillars. Our reception was at the blue lagoon... read me review for this. abolutely awesome!!!! blue lagoon is open air. i would receommend blue lagoon or poseidon. poseidon is nice and private.. beautiful view overlooking the beach and ocean. blue lagoon overlooks the main pool area and ocean and is much bigger than pseidon. a huge thing to factor with blue lagoon fore the timing of ur reception is that a live band will play.. every night... directly above you in the lounge. it is VERYYYYY loud and you wont be able to hear anything over it. we had to yell our speeches and cut them short because of the band... and you could NOT hear the muic for our first dance at all. i think the band starts playing at 9pm. We went with the waves of love package. It was perfect.. i think i would have been disappointed to spend more money on the other packages... however you only have the color choices that com with those packages. The waves of love blue package was stunning. the flower arrangements were huge and absolutely beautiful. Our colors were blue, coral and brown. My sister wore a bright coral colored dress... and ... oh this was perfect... we picked flowers from around the resort that matched her dress PERFECTLY. it was awesome.. everything will work out. I spent $200 on fake flower bouquets that I had made and we didnt even use them. what a waste of money. Seriously.. dont stress out about anything. Jamaica runs on jamaican time. everything WILL get planned. We didnt finalize ANYTHING with the resort until 1 day before the wedding. Crazy considering what we are used to... but thats how it is there. there's honestly not much you have to do other than show up. You can plan as much as you want.. but when u get there you'll realize its not worth it. the best advice i have is dont try and have a formal "american/italian/whatever" style wedding in jamaica... i saw a few brides do this... and it looked uncomfortable and forced and unnatural. Bridesmaid dresses that were huuuge pouffy and stuffy things and looked like heavy prom dresses... just too much and it didnt look right. i mean do what you want... its your wedding right. i wore formal heels (dress sandals) and a formal wedding dress... but we kept it light and fun and it was perfect. check out my profile for some pictures.

Hey Diana, Yes it does seem expensive... I beleive the band has 5 members.. 4 on steel drums and 1 playing on actual drums in behind them... i have pics to post of them actually.. ill try tomorrow. Consider this though... the resort charges $500 for an ipod dock for the ceremony only.... sooo when u put that into perspective.. for the SAME price.. u get a live authentic steel drum band. It honestly made our ceremony seem a loootttttt more authentic than other weddings who just used ipods. They played for an hour.. actually a little over an hour because I was an hour late myself... so they played the whole time from about 1:45 while guests were being seated until I came which was about 2:45... and then when we had our bridal party entrance.. and then my entrance.. and then during our signing... note: we didnt do ANYTHING extra to prolong the ceremony.. spent so much time planning everything else we never wrote our own vows or something to say to each other or do the sand ceremony... so then they played again after our kiss and then during the champagne toast. They wrapped it up rather quickly because i was an hour late... we went over our location time.. which is an hour.. so they let us do the champagne toast and mingle for about 20/30 mins then starting packing up and taking everything down. So they played from about 1:45 until sometime between 3 and 3:30. it was definitely definitely worth it... 200%.

Hi Butterfly, We were married in Jamaica so our stuff is all in english ... but your documents should come translated as you should have already paid for that service. In order to apply for marriage certificate in whatever country you were married... everything would have been translated from engllish into spanish.. and that should have included the translation of the marriage certificate back to english.. if not.. yes you will need to have it translated so that it can be used here.
-
Hi CdnBeatPrincess, I spoke with city hall before I left for my wedding and they advised me that a legal marriage done in another country is legal everywhere. There is nothing to file and nothing to pay for locally. A marriage certificate is a marriage certifcate. The only thing you will need to do with your certificate is use it as proof of marriage to change any of your personal info... if you are assuming another name.

I did contact Rashel though... and she offered last minute...to send me her trainee.. sorry i cant remember her name off hand but i do have her business card somewhere. I paid $130 for her trainee to do airbrush makeup with eyelashes and it was stunning!! She was welllllllll worth it!!!! my makeup was so perfect and airbrush is definitely the way to go if you dont want your makeup to sweat off in 5 minutes!!! highly recommend booking through Rashel.. even if she is booked asked for her assistant!!! She was awesome.. so mcuh fun and very professional! -
Hey Allie, I was going to comment on the catamaran prices .... because I was just at the Grand Palladium last month and couldn't get anywhere close to $35 for a catamaran! We called a few places and the absolute cheapest we could find was exactly what you were quoted ... about $75 per person. I think kfarkas26 was mistaken with her prices.

Hey Lindsay, No worries... I had the waves of love package... and it was absolutely beautiful!!! I know you probably wont believe this ... but its true... the pics on the website of the packages are exactly what they look like ... like.. exactly! I was expecting a lot less than what the pictures suggested lol ... but was very surprised with how beautiful the flowers were with the package.. like i said i paid $200 for fake ones and didnt even use them!!! The package is beautiful ... the bouquet for our head table was so huge.. i was expecting a dinky little wilted flower bouquet or something! I have more pics i've been meaning to add... no professional ones back yet so apologize for the quality.. but i have some of the cake and i think of our "sweetheart" head table.. avec gigantic flower bouquet. And yes.. i did walk down the aisle to the steel drum band!! They were AMAZING!!!!!!! My guests were soo impressed and it seriously made the wedding feel more real and authentic! I didnt give them a play list or anything.. this is what they do for a living.. they know what they're doing and what they can play ... lol ... my ONLY request was that they DONT play "here comes the bride" (my wedding coordinator radio'ed that over to them "do not play here comes the bride... ANYTHING but here comes the bride" nd then she laughed saying okay the whole entire resort heard that!) ...they actually played Canon in D .. which was soooo perfect and beautiful on the steel drums ... waterworks all around!!!!!! except me I was WAY too excited Oh.. i actually JUST had someone post a good pic of the steel drum band on my facebook ... ill copy it and upload it here so you can see... totally worth it!!! Put it this way.. they charge $500 to rent an ipod dock... and I got a legit steel drum band. loved it!!!

Hey... Our wedding was at 2pm and reception at 6pm ... I was upset too because i thought i really wanted 4pm .. but dont worry 2pm is perfect!!! YES... its going to be possibly the hottest point of the day.. it was for our day!!!!! It was blistering hot .. thank goodness for that ocean breeze!!! However... i will say... i'm sooooooo glad we did it at 2pm. I was actually about an hour late for the ceremony.. hair/mkeup and everything took longer than expected.. oh well.. let them wait i say!!! it honestly was perfect.. we had soo much time in between to take pictures... and our guests were sooo happy that they hd time to go jump in the pool for a swim to cool off and the nget ready again for dinner. Looking back...i think we would have been sooo rushed for pictures and everything with a 4pm ceremony. I'm so happy with how timing worked out on our day. Hopefully that will make u feel a little better Once you get there... everything will work out!

I jsut wanted to post now that i am back from my wedding in Jamaica... I actually posted before I left looking for info about deep sea fishing but didnt find anything. The guys wanted to do a half day.. 4 hour.. fishing trip before the weddding and I was looking for rates. So for anyone interested in deep sea fishing (WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!) Here are the details: We booked privately through Stanley's fishing in Negril. We were quoted $80 per person ... the resort charged $180 per person through a tour company (who probably contract out Stanley). We were picked up at our resort and brought to Negril. The boat we went on was unbelievable!! It was a beautiful fishing yacht equipped with so many rods and reels. Now, I am not a fisher by any means... yes we went to the lake a few times when we were younger and fished for sunfish and pike... but fishing isnt something I would go out of my way to do. The guys only ended up with 9 guys committing due to hangovers, etc... soooo 3 of us girls decided to tag along as well... and im SOOOO GLAD!!! This fishing trip was the fishing trip of a lifetime. We went over 10 miles off shore. It was absolutely beautiful out there... we ended up catching 12 skipjack tuna and 1 barracuda!!! IT was so much fun and Stanley and his assistant were amazing people... they were fun and told us a lot about the fish and sea and what's down there and out there. They told us what to look for and we spotted soem birds diving.. Stanley changed course and went directly for the birds..because that meant fish. Sure enough we caught 5 skipjack tunas... and the boys let me reel one in myself!!! It's definitely harder than it looks We brought 4 tuna back to the resort..Stanley and his first mate cut us some tuna steaks and fillets... The resort cooked them up an served them with rice and jerk sauce. It was unbelievable!!!!! I have posted a few pics on my profile (cant upload them in here for some reason) if anyone wants to see the boat and our catch! I absolutely recommend Stanley's Fishing for ANYONE travelling to Jamaica who is interested in deep sea fishing.

I just wanted to post a short review of my travel agent for any southwestern ontario/ Niagara region brides! We used Old Port Travel in St. Catharines to plan/book our wedding for a party of 48. She claims to be a destination wedding specialist, however I would NOT reccommend her for any bride or wedding group! We paid her a few hundred dollar fee on top of the commission she received from our group booking. This fee was to take care of the extra work associated with our wedding group booking for both air travel and resort. We had 2 major problems during our travel that were a direct result of her failing to do her job (yes it sounds harsh but I am so frustrated with her novel length responses to me refusing to take any responsibility). First, Transat had ZERO record of our wedding group. For some odd reason, Transat didnt have a code entered for our group that labelled us as a "wedding group". Due to this "oversight", we did not receive any of the perks we should have on the flight (pre-boarding and dedicated overhead bin area for dress/suit or our names announced during the flight). According to my travel agent, this oversight should be considered trivial since they eventually did announce it thanks to our guests! One of my guests went and asked the flight attendant to announce our names, they did halfway through the flight which was very nice!! but the moment had passed and disappointment already set in.. Keep in mind we booked this trip over a year ago, so you would think that is plenty of time to confirm things and ensure that all of our ducks were in a row. Second, we should have received FREE pre-booked seats and all cloud nine inclusions on the flight. We were supposed to have received vouchers with our tickets to hand in at check in for our upgrades (which I just found out now via Transat). We received no such vouchers and all the travel agent said is "i sincerely apologize" along with a novel of why it wasn't her fault. This aspect of the travel is exactly what we paid her for. She also did nothing to confirm plans for our wedding at the resort. I took care of that via email directly with the resort. Basically all she did was book us as a group and charge me a few extra hundred dollars. I don't know of any other travel agent who charges an extra fee to do a group booking. I'm really not sure what I paid her for and asked to be reimbursed due to her errors and "oversights" that made the difference of us being a "wedding group" and regular group. She continues to send me unprofessional emails going on about this and that and I really don't care to hear any of it. If anyone lives in the Niagara area or knows anyone who is considering using Old Port Travel, please do yourselves a favour for your big day/week and book through someone else. I would have rather gone through a normal travel agent as a regular group and then taken care of the wedding details/booking all on my own, for free! Hoping this little review will help one bride choose a better travel agent to book with. I am extremely disappointed with her service and refusal to make anything right. Still hoping and fighting with her to get something back from it but I fear it is a lost cause. Happy planning everyone!

Hi Lauren, I just got back from my Jamaica wedding. I transported my dress and flowers in the bridal bag from Alfred Angelo.. which I think is the same one you have. I was worried about the bag being really thin and not waterproof but I had no issues at all. Just make sure you carry your dress with you at allllll times and dont let it drag on the floor. My dress was quite bulky so I "folded" the bag in half and made a small hole in the bottom to fit around the top of the hanger. This made it much more bearable as it was quite heavy and easier to hold over my shoulder. Hope that helps

Hey everyone... just got back from the GPLH!!! We were married on May 10.. ceremony at the gazebo and reception in the blue lagoon! Very impressed with the resort and big shout out to wedding coordinator Nekeisha!! The resort is beautiful and perfect for our group of 48! My reccommendations: 1. STEEL DRUM BAND! Didnt hear any weddings do this for the ceremony but ours.. and it was soooo worth it! Our guests thought it was included and didnt realize we paid $500 for the hour.. but oh well.. it MADE the wedding ceremony. After all... we were in Jamaica!!! Was not a fan of the wedding using ipods and recorded music for the ceremony.. it felt too stiff and uptight. 2. ZURIELEMAKA (spelling?). This show was INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We decided to do this show after our main course and before dessert. It was nothing short of AMAZING!!!! They included guests and the bride and groom for a few things and it was definitely the highlight of our entire wedding!!!!!! People will be talking about it forever... and every one of our guests said it was the best show they had ever seen!!!!!! I can't say enough about the talent of these people and the culture they brought to our wedding. Fun, fun and FUN!!!! People from all over the resort were coming to try and watch it. Since we were in the blue lagoon we had people hanging over the railing from the Infinity bar above to watch it. Kind of annoying since we paid $900 for it and other people were photo bombing and video taping it... but oh well. we DEFINITELY made it a wedding to remember! We even heard random people talking about it the next day in the pool and the beach. 3. GAZEBO. This is the BEST location for the ceremony. Our room was right above the beach location.... which was really small and the entrance for the bride is really awkward and short. We watched a few weddings here from our balcony and soo many people were photo bombing it. We actually did too without realizing it. We went out to the reef behind the beach location to take post-wedding pictures and there was a wedding going on...so im pretty sure we photo bombed their ceremony.. but oh well we were on a schedule too!!! The gazebo is VERY private and secluded in a garden.. right on a cliff between the adult beach and sunset cove beach. The aisle was very long and the walk was just beautiful. Gave everyone enough time to take pictures and me enough time to control the tears and take it alllllllll in!!!!! The guest area is partially shaded by trees. Our ceremony was at 2pm so it was blistering hot and part of the guests were in the sun. A 4pm wedding would be mostly shaded here.. which is a huge factor to consider for your guests. 4. Blue Lagoon. The ONLY 2 restaurants i would reccomend for dinner would be the blue lagoon as #1 and poisedon #2. Poisedon is great and VERY private...it would be best if you can rent out the entire restaurant...cause it gets realllllly cozy if you dont. the sun sets directly infront of the restaurant and you will get amazing photos!!!!! I really liked how private and secluded this place is... but be aware you WILL need to shuttle out here... its a far walk for guests... esp. if staying on the jamaica side. The blue lagoon was fabulous!!!!! We did a sweetheart table (head table of just bride and grrom) and then we had 7 other tables infront of us. The wedding party and guests sat directly infront of us with parent tables on each side. we had direct access to everyone. It was perfect. We used the other wing for dancing and the zurielemaka show. Be aware... however... that the Infinity bar has a reggae band EVERY night... and they start up around 9pm... so you WILL NOT be able to hear ANYTHING other than this band. We didnt know this.... and our first dance and ipod music during dinner was realllllly affected. Our speeches were also slimmed down and if we would have known how loud the reggae band was... we TOTALLY would have changed our schedule. My dad had a huge speech written and could only say part of it. Also.. our first dance was pretty bad.. no one could hear the song which made it hard for guests to pay attention. We knew though.. so i didnt care! Note that you ONLY have until 10pm... and they WILL start ripping everything apart at 10pm SHARP. TIMING IS HUGE!!!!! We started dinner at 7pm. I would DEFIINITELY recommend dinner at 6:30pm at the LATEST. Due to the show our dinner ran later than expected and we had to move our first dance over to the side because they had started ripping our reception down. So that was distracting too but everything worked out. I also would NOT recommend wasting ANY MONEY on a DJ. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO not worth it!!! There really is ZERO time for one... and trust me you will be very disappointed for wasting a boat load of money when all you need is a playlist and ipod during and after dinner. We also didnt use a microphone or rent a MC ... we just yelled and spoke really loud for speeches and it was PERFECT. Our bartender helped out huge and acted as an MC too .... so im very glad we didnt waste mmoney on that becaues they did it anyway!!!!!!!!! They announced our bridal party for entrances and announced the show and the cutting of the cake. It was awesome!!!! 5. FLOWERS. Okay... so I actually had fake f,lowers made before we left. I paid $200 for my bouquet, 1 bridesmaid and 3 bouts .... NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!!! I ended up using the resorts FREE one.. it was STUNNING.. and my bridesmaid bouquet.... ha! we ended up piking flowers from the resort and shoving them into her bouquet to cover up the fake ones. The tropical flowers around the resort matched her dress PERFECTLY! we were laughing because it was one of the FEW things we tried to pre-plan.. and it wasnt worth it!!! DONT WASTE MONEY on fake ones unless you absolutely want a specific type. I didnt use my bouquet at all... haha what a waste! 6. REMEMBER: NO WORRIES MON!!!! NO PROBLEM IN JAMAICA!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything WILL work out and EVERYYYYTHING is done on JAMAICAN TIME!!!!!!!! Its amazing how much i learned in jamaica. If you have never been...like us.... it is a country of peace and no stress. The people are beautiful and the island is beautiful. Jamaicans are VERY polite and respectful. They are hilarious and veryyyy relaxed. I was NEVER stressed out about anything before during or after my wedding... and once we got to Jamaica my guests started to understand why. No worries. Everything is IRIE!!!!!!!!!!!! If anyone has any questions pleae let me know! ill try and get some pics up too... CHECK MY PROFILE... the site wouldnt let me post pics on ere... but i uploaded a few on my profile.

Thanks for the heads up lindsayraz. I ended up cancelling the offsite hair/makeup. I absolutely cant justify spending over $500 for hair and makeup for one day... especially when the resort charges $160 for both. I typically always do my own hair and makeup for everything... i just wanted to be pampered on my big day. But oh well.. thats the way it works sometimes! I'm going to use the salon and if it doesnt work out I will just fix it myself. I'm gonna have some girls come with me to the spa to make sure they do EXACTLY what I want. Thanks for the heads up though ...at least now I know what to expect!!

Hey guys, I was quoted $300 for airbrush makeup with lashes by an offsite makeup artist. And another $100 for hair. Add the resort fees and im looking at $520 for offsite hair and makeup. Plus western union fees its $550. Does this compare to what anyone else has paid for offsite hair/makeup?? It seems wayyyy overpriced to me but I have no idea. I REALLLLLY want airbrush but the resort only charges like $250 for hair and makeup. advice anyone????

its beautiful!!! Were bringing our own stuff for simple centerpieces.. wont be nearly as nice as yours but we wanted it to be a little more personalized. We grabbed some clear plastic bowls from the dollar store and some large tea lights.. so we're just gonna put some sand in the bowl and light the tea lights and i have some sea shells and starfish to put around it. Hopefully dresses up the tables a little more! I love your squared tables ... making me re-think what we were going to do with our seating plan!
