  1. Ooh, another bridal show in town this weekend. I went to one a couple weeks ago, and suppose I will go to this one too. Not much applies to me being a DW bride and so far in the future, but it is fun to get ideas and see the fashion show.... plus at the last one I won some great prizes! Fun, fun!
  2. not crazy at all! I am the opposite... I am 5'2" and he is 6'6" (seriously). SO I NEED to wear heels for the ceremony and pictures of us together, but I want to have some pictures of me barefoot in the sand, so I made some barefoot sandals as well for me and my bridesmaids. That way, I get the best of both worlds! (Who am I kidding? I am flip-flop obsessed so I am sure I will have a pair of cute flip flops too! Best of 3 worlds?) So, you could do flats for some parts, and cute heels for others. Best of both worlds!
  3. I think it might be okay but you would have to word it differently and make it very clear - politely - what the expectations were. Then it should be fine.
  4. I think the watch is a great idea... maybe for our 1 year gift
  5. Thank goodness I am not the only one! I was beginning to worry about myself!
  6. We did this in summer 2010. They laughed at us when we said we were from Canada; "Oh, they don't need wetsuits". We didn't get them and didn't miss them, so it is all your perspective and time of year - I am sure it being August contributed to a lot. We loved the food; but there was only us (a group of 4) and one couple in the whole place; they were following us. Maybe that explains the good food? Luxury it is not, but the food fits the place. And the cenote splashdown was AWESOME - especially backwards! Plus we also did the Avatar - the zipline rollercoaster. WOW! One member of our group had a recent wrist injury so skipped it, and I only did it once, but am really glad I did. The other two loved it. Crazy! And we liked the skycycle - though I was slow. We saw some really cool birds especially. The buggy was cool. If you do not was to be bouncing around, sit near the front. There were 4 of us, plus 3 staff members... photographer, zipline leader, and snorkel leader. They were awesome. We ended up with 2 full cds of pictures, and they gave us a really good deal. We swam more than snorkeled in the caves, but the caves themselves were really incredible. I would love to go back! PS - Also good to note, if you book before you leave home, you can change the specific day when you get to Mexico; just call a day or so early. This might only be in off-season, so keep in mind.
  7. I did think about that, but my MoH and BM both live out of town and rarely come here (or me to them) without FI. Honestly, I am very comfortable with getting my picture taken by strangers, but I would feel uneasy posing like that in front of them. Weird, huh? And I do not know if I feel okay asking any of my other friends to do it either.... I will try and think of someone though... because I know that would indeed be easier!
  8. I do not know if it is the norm or not to buy the in laws gifts, but mine are way, far more supportive than my own parents are, and they are helping out a lot (in every way)... so I want to get them something. Not sure if most people get their inlaws something or not. I would think that you would keep it similar to what you get your parents. So if you get your parents something, than yes. if not, then no.
  9. Oh, I am sure that it will be wonderful! I have heard great things on this forum about that resort I believe. I just wish I could confirm... My STD are ready to go, I just need to confirm the date so I can print them off and send them on their way!
  10. Yes, I just wanted to get her something extra on the side. I guess I should explain what I am getting everyone! They are all (moms, bms, etc) getting a large beach-y purse filled with: a pashmina, bubba keg, notebook, pen, bookmark, necklace, barefoot sandals, 'getting ready' housecoat, 'bridal party' tank, card, etc.; little things like that. Then they are getting separate things specific to them... nail files and lip glosses for the girls, pink flask for moh, that kind of thing. For the necklaces, I am getting the BMs little starfish ones to wear, but the moms are getting 'mom' jewelry instead. But I really wanted to give my future mother in law something EXTRA on top of that, since she is really, really going above and beyond in every sense (both while wedding planning and in every day life). But I do not want to offend my mom. I have no idea what specifically to give her that could be extra to say thank you for so much.
  11. Here is my conundrum. For gifts, I have been getting my mom, fmil, bm and moh similar things.... my bm and moh are wonderful, and I could not ask for a better future mother in law. She is really, really wonderful (both inlaws are). since day 1, they have treated me like, and told me i was, a member of the family. They are helping with everything for us as much as possible. My mom is the opposite - completely unsupportive, only says that they will come to the dw because they have to. We are not close at all, but she is my mom. I want to do something really nice for my fmil, to say thank you for everything. But my mom is still, well, my mom. I do not want to offend her, if she finds out about the difference, and make our strained relationship even worse. Does anyone have any idea of anything at all that I can do for fmil? I am totally stuck.
  12. We are getting married in July. We usually travel in summer. It is a fraction of the price, but more than that, I am a teacher. That means summers off!
  13. Wow, I cannot believe how polite and KIND you were in that email! And for her to act like that.... yes, she is probably stressed, but you were too, and you too sincere time out for her.... Wow. You totally did the right thing. I would not feel badly about that AT all. Just forget her as much as possible. You do not need toxic people in your life at any time, but certainly not on your wedding day! Oh, and I totally agree with meBonidie2be about people not coming... I think I need to remember that sometimes, too! You did the right thing totally. Nothing you could have done better.
  14. I was able to find one for $225... that is the cheapest one that I still liked that I found, but still cannot justify it. So I am learning to DIY. I was needing a tripod anyway...
  15. Great find! I cannot wait to see what the table looks like! Be sure to post pictures, please!
  16. Yeah, I will, but since my date is so far away it takes FOREVER for anyone to get back to me. So I thought I would ask here; you ladies are all so knowledgeable!
  17. PS - and congratulations! (Sorry for so many posts there.)
  18. Oh fun! Yay! It is interesting how some resorts are booking now, and some not for months... Hmm... Wish mine did a little earlier, though I can book soon!
  19. Yeah we are definitely going to have a very small group.... family drama is dictating that, but it will be great for sure! I do not think we are doing the whole OOT bag thing, but we are doing something similar. We are picking up Bubba kegs for everyone, and filling them with little things; mostly a couple bandaids, a deck of cards ("two of a kind"), hand sanitizer, aloe, maybe lip balm with sunscreen.... most of the people coming travel quite a bit, so they won't really use everything in a typical oot bag. so I am going to keep them pretty simple. I did start a welcome book, passport style, with games and puzzles in it, so that is fun. And I am putting together bags for each of the parents and bridesmaids, which I have started. We have a couple bubba kegs, but until we have a better idea of the number coming, I do not think we will get them all. If you are looking for OOT ideas though, I founds some items at Michaels, last week, all summer-y; 3 for $1. I found some fabulous things for my bms there; that might be a great idea for OOT stuff, if it is still there. And I agree totally - why not cross some things off the lists now?
  20. It's tough, you do not want to be all matchy-matchy but you still want to coordinate, right? Hmmm...
  21. Funny! That is exactly what I was thinking! But yes, gorgeous! Wow! And what a great photographer!
