  1. Sorry to hear that you are not getting your dream wedding. It sounds like you are disappointed (rightfully so) but are trying to look at the positive. Good work. I am sure that things will work out, and not that it helps to hear, but remember that, after all, at the end of the day you are still ending up married to your man, and that is what it is all about, right? Easy for me to say. I am really sorry to hear it though.
  2. Online is another good resource too.
  3. No, I am not sure what it will look like, we are just kind of figuring it out as we go. It's just something fun and silly... like us! When we find the right size of Cinderella, I will post a picture. Not sure when, but I will. We are going with something simple, a little beachy, for the cake I think.
  4. Nope we found the Han Solo in a box of FI's old toys... We are on the search for the right size Cinderella. The one we had before was too big, which doesn't work because I'm almost a foot and half shorter than FI. So far we are thinking Toys R Us or Dollar Store for ideas... So actual toys! I think it is quirky and fun. And I am totally Disney crazy!
  5. I might. I actually heard back last week, a very nice email, saying the resort was available that day! Yay! And then information about the cost of a minister for a symbolic ceremony, a catholic priest, or a legal ceremony. Nothing about the packages, though I have the old ones from before if you want them, MaisieGirl. I emailed back to say we want a symbolic ceremony, on that date... now I guess I just wait again to hear if it is confirmed? I am not really sure of the process here...
  6. Ah, Hinton isn't that small town; I used to live in Hanna, so I get it.
  7. Hey, you are even getting married at the same resort! Woohoo! I'll send them your way.
  8. We are using toys on ours. It was FI's idea... He is being a little Han Solo, and I am Cinderella. Whatever, it is fun and silly. But the cake is not a big deal to me; if it was, I do not think I would like that plan at all. hahaha! I like the wording idea of "One Love"... what about a custom of the two of you, with him wearing a ninja turtles t-shirt?
  9. Thanks! I will totally check them out! We don't have a Home Sense, but we do have a Winners!
  10. LOVE love this stuff! And you sure have been busy! I would love to see pictures! I'm in Alberta too! Would you mind if I asked where you found the starfish? And where you are at?
  11. I love the hot sauce idea! Hmm... I was planning on doing little baggies with candy... blue (one of our colours) that are tropical flavoured to tie into the wedding. But now I am really like the hot sauce idea. I guess it will depend on how many we have. Great idea!
  12. Thanks! It is a little note about wanting to book early, as well as our travel agent's information. If I had been thinking, I would have looked at it before so it wouldn't have to be inside the ticket holder upside down. Oops!
  13. Hi and welcome! I am just curious... where in Alberta are you from? I'm down in Lethbridge...
  14. I like the shoe game. You know, when the bride and groom each hold one of their shoes and one of their partners, and they stand back to back. Then the Mcs (or whoever) ask questions, and they hold up the shoe to answer. Some questions are about past (Who said I Love You first?) and some are more futuristic (Who will do the dishes most often?) I think we will be doing that one for sure. Always makes the guests chuckle. Just don't let it go on forever, and keep it light and sweet.
  15. Okay, I posted this and templates and such in the little blog section in the blog archives... This is all peachy keen... But I thought I would post a couple pictures here too, since I am so excited to share them! Each one was just a couple pages... basic information on the first, then the second page had a note basically saying we want you to come, but we get it that not everyone can, and that we will have an ahr later so no worries... more eloquently of course. I had the materials before, and just printed them from home, so it only cost postage. One went overseas, one to the states, all the rest were close... so it was super inexpensive! So far we have heard a few people have gotten there's. Responses so far have been good!
  16. We just used cardstock from Michaels. Good price. They turned out just fine, and we didn't score or anything. Just be accurate... you can only fold once! Then just make sure it is a sharp fold.
  17. Everything ready, just waiting to get put together. Oh, I wanted to do envelope liners to make it look prettier, since we were just using plain white envelopes, with my plan printing. The contents of each envelope And on the back of the ticket jacket is a map of the Dominican Republic, and I put a starfish clip art right about where our resort is. All ready for the envelopes and to go! We used little stickers from vistaprint with our monogram for envelope seals. We love them! So far a couple people have gotten them, and remarks have been favourable! Hope it keeps up!
  18. Thank you for posting this! I am definitely in the EXACT same boat as you; no support from my parents. Thanks for reiterating that you wouldn't change a thing... that really helps to hear.
  19. Alrighty, the boarding pass save the dates are done and in the mail. I had almost all of the material at home already, I just had to pay postage and a little extra paper when I ran out. Altogether, $29. Not bad at all. That works out to about 83 cents each. I also lined the envelopes, and most also went out with a magnet from Vistaprint too. They were simply printed from our home printer. I will post pictures once I get them off the camera! Now I cannot wait to hear what people say about them! luggage tag save the date insert.docx Boarding Pass Ticket Jacket.docx Boarding Pass Save the Date.doc
  20. There was a lot of drama in my family about who to invite or not invite... anyway, I am not inviting ANYONE in my family, save parents and siblings, and FI's family is all invited. Anyway, we did boarding pass save the dates; on the first page was our basic information, and the back page was just this note, similar to one on our website: We are exchanging vows in a tropical paradise, under the sun, with the turquoise sea as our backdrop and white sand beneath our feet. While we would be honoured to have you share this special day with us, we certainly understand that it may not be a reality for some, and we know that your thoughts and well-wishes will be with us. We are also planning an at-home reception upon our return, and would love to see you then. We hope that you are able to mark your calendars for our dream wedding!
  21. I am starting to get a little frustrated. We were able to put deposits on booking for the week we want with Air Canada, but now I am trying to secure the DATE I want with the resort. And, of course, I am not hearing anything back. I know they get busy, and I know I shouldn't be impatient. I just really want to get the exact date figured out so I can book the photographer. After that, I am okay. Has anyone had any experience with this?
  22. Mine is small. I am not inviting anyone in my family per my parents' request (oh drama). So I am just asking my parents and 3 siblings, none of whom have significant others. Then there is FI's family (he is an only child). We invited his grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. We would be surprised if many - or any - come. We also invited friends. So, our guess is that it will be about 15. I would love to have the number in the 20s, but as long as it is over 10, it is okay.
  23. Yeah, we really tried to keep everything light and fun... We are really silly together, so why not reflect that? Just hope we don't seriously offend too many people... But we liked it.
  24. Hahaha, we also know some people who said they won't be coming already. We are sending them STDs, but not invites. We also are putting something about it on our website, asking them to "tentatively RSVP" if they know they will be there no matter what, know they cannot get off work, are allergic to sand and sunshine, are terrified of flying, or hate the mini bags of peanuts that flight attendants give out on flights with such a passion that it is enough to persuade them to miss out on a fun vacation, and avoid all salty snacks.
