  1. We picked up the same ones for FI - khaki for the trip, and white for the day itself. What a great deal, right?
  2. I was planning on ivory, but ended up with white. I did not think the white would work, but in the right dress, it just did not matter. Ah well, it made my grandmothers happy too!
  3. These are lovely! And nice deal, especially for a long dress! It looks like it will be very flattering.
  4. Yes. Like I said, DIYing like crazy! Here is the actual breakdown of the original budget: Attire for bride and groom (including alterations): $550 (we are way under so far; to be fair, my bridal gown was a gift from my parents so is not included in this total. Gifts (including bridal party, parents, each other, OOT items): $1000 (again, under this budget here) Music: $200 (we bought a new iPod that we included in this, though really it is not a wedding expense. For the AHR my brother's band is going to play; my dad is paying for their time, but we are getting a way reduced rate. Also, we are under this budget too.) Decorations: $125 (right now we are under here too, but not sure if that will stay) Flowers: 220 (WAY under; it will go up for AHR but not way too much) AHR hall & caterer & drinks: $2000 (going to be over here I bet) Photography: budgeted $1200; over. (total: $1730, but that includes videography and their hotel stay, and we get all rights) Stationary/Printing: $350 (under!) All travel expenses (incl. flights, hotel, etc.): $4000 (and we will definitely be over; our trip alone came out to more than that) Other (stagette parties, officiant fee, etc.): $4825 (we better not spend that much here; FI was originally going to go to Vegas for his stag - that got cancelled and I opted for a cheaper stagette than originally planned) - this budget item does include a couple hotel stays (Calgary before departure, stopover in Toronto) Actually, this is making me feel better! I think (knock on wood) we may actually end up under budget! I wish I could get it down to 10K, but that may be unrealistic. DIY is a wonderful thing, ladies! (Plus we have a small group travelling with us)
  5. Not for a wedding, but FI has worn long pants and a shirt; a cotton blend. He said never, ever again. He picked up some linen clothing which is better. Of course, in March it would be better - this was in July. I have seen pictures of grooms in black that seem to be conscious and they look really classy, but I think my marriage would be over before it even started if I suggested it.
  6. Well we started saying around 5000. That was before we picked a location that is super pricey (in our opinion, but so lovely!), and decided to stay for two weeks, and before we opted to have an AHR. Now we have 15K, including everything put together. I am DIYing my brains out! I swear I have permanent hot glue gun burns on my fingers.
  7. Oh no. I now have 3 single men coming. I am totally stuck on stuff for them. Any luck finding travel poker sets in Canada (or something similar?) I am thinking about a flask keychain, or is that pretty useless? Would love some more ideas if anyone has them!
  8. Oh my goodness, really? hahaha - This is starting to get creepy, Barash!
  9. Agreed. I got the men's shirts, then I actually ordered one large and altered it to make it a tank top for the beach. I got the shirt free - a whole lot better than paying for the women's tank one!
  10. are you looking for a particular part of the evening? FI had the same request.... easy on the cheese. Sigh. SO I have a pretty long list. Are you thinking for dancing?
  11. In Canada your best bet is probably Canadian Tire, or ordering online, depending on how many you want. We got ours from Canadian Tire. They go on 50% off sales pretty frequently (once every 4-6 weeks) and you can sign up through their website to get notified when they are about to go on sale. (That does not always work. but helps). I think in the States Walmarts get them in too, but I do not know if that is totally true, and I know we do not get them in Walmarts in Canada.
  12. The craft section. One of the aisles where there is jewelry, then at the back a few iron-on items (bags, t-shirts, computer transfer paper, and the letters I ended up getting). They used to be in the same aisle as the fabric (which is also in the craft section). So maybe try there too. Good luck!
  13. Me too. Walmart has cheap iron on letters too. Or you can get the words (if you do not want to cut out individual letters) from ebay. Michaels only had "Mother of the Bride" when I was shopping). Much cheaper to DIY, and the instructions are pretty easy to follow.
  14. This is fabulous! We are having a small wedding too (about ten people with us - parents, siblings, and his best friend) and, though I get slightly wistful looking at destination weddings with 40+ people, I think that this is definitely the way to go. Could not be more perfect! And talk about how special an intimate wedding will be. Congratulations and happy planning!
  15. Very cool! Can I ask what you used on your flip flops to jazz them up? The writing in particular...
  16. It COMPLETELY depends. Some people even bring a photographer with them, and then pay reduced package prices, or even just pay for their trip. We went with a company from Punta Cana. We are paying only $1100 for a package that gives us CDs (and DVDs) with both photography and videography for ceremony, getting ready, and family pictures. We get all rights to reproduce and print the images. We paid an extra $300 for them to stay and keep shooting through reception, and an extra $200 for a next-day trash the dress session. Pretty reasonable. However, while we are getting married in the Dominican, we are not getting married in Punta Cana, so we have to pay a travel fee and for rooms for them (for two nights). That is the kicker, and was a sizeable chunk of change. I am still okay with it though, I guess, since it was a main priority for us. Regardless though, there went our savings on the reasonable package! Haha!
  17. That is a neat idea! Does anyone know where to find them?
  18. I got this set, but just put our date on each one instead of the message, because I am keeping the woman's and giving FI the man's! My parents would not really appreciate them anyway. I bought this as part of FI's gift (he is also getting above handkerchief and a BD book). It is personalized with our wedding location's coordinates in DR, and also the coordinates of the resort in Mexico where he proposed.
  19. A simple beach one. We might do something like that... though I love the more elaborate ones...
