I agree Kay6356 ...a banquet hall is a smart way to go. I belong to my local Volunteer Fire Co as an auxiliary member and I am renting the hall for out AHR. Well that is if it's up and running. We just had a fire in the firehouse, and at this point I may need to find another venue. Hoping to have a definite answer in the next couple of weeks. Anyway, usually banquet halls are cheaper and you are able to do your own cooking etc...makes having an AHR that much more affordable.

Now's the fun part of actually going and doing the registering! Have you done that? Where did you go?
L
I have done that and I went to Target, but I am also going to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond because I absolutely love that store. We are doing the same thing, if they ask letting them know.

I agree I think she is tacky for saying it too!!! So how did the talk go with the DF? What did he think about it?
-
I think you just need to ignore your sister-in-laws comment, because I truly believe most people don't think that way! I originally wasn't going to have a bridal shower or register either and most of my friends were like "why not?" you deserve it just like anyone else. And tacky..sorry but that's crazy having an at home reception of any kind isn't tacky!!! Now adays more and more people are going away getting married and having AHR..its more common than not!! Do what you are comfortable with and don't worry about what anyone else has to say. It's your CHOICE no matter what!!!
-
I am not having that problem thank god. Everyone know is will only be a cocktail reception and they all see totally fine with it. Plus my girlfriend is going to do all the cooking and ordering of the food and we have been able to keep the cost to a minimal....My centerpieces cost me next to nothing to do and I love them.

Yeah we do to and it was a way for us to include everyone who isn't able to travel with us.

We are having about 26 people (only inviting immediate family and bridal party--we have HUGE families) in the DR with us, but to appease other people we are having an AHR, with the traditional stuff. I don't think I want to repeat the speeches, but I guess that is something we could discuss as it gets closer.
We are going to do the same thing....

Dates are correct and I am from Glens Falls, NY....thank you so much for adding me back to the list...I am extremely happy we worked things out as well.....thanks again
-
JayKay,
I would love to get back on the list if you don't mind that the little starfish would be traveling to Vegas and Cabo with me? My Fiance and I worked things out and while we changed our plans the wedding is still going to happen. I would be leaving for Vegas on 12/10 and returning 12/23/2012.
If you need my information again please let me know....Thanks
-
JayKay,
I wanted to inform you that I will no longer be needing the starfish as I will not be getting married after all. However, I will let you know while it was a hard decision to make it was the right decision for me. Thank you so much....

I LOVED using VistaPrint to help me fill my bag. I got TONS of freebies, thanks to the advice of several other brides on here. In most cases, the only cost was shipping. And here's a trick I learned from another bride (anudrum)... If you have to make multiple orders to get several freebies, you can select "slow shipping" for every order, but if you pick the fast shipping for one order, all orders will ship with the fast shipping! It wasn't an issue for me since I still have til April for my wedding. But one order, the fast shipping was only $0.20 more than slow, so I tried it out, and sure enough I got my two slow orders with the fast order! Also, for VistaPrint, the trick to get the really good deal emails is to create something on their website, but only add it to your portfolio, don't checkout. Usually within a few days I always got an email offering me 30-50% off, plus a list of freebies! If you start early, you can keep getting one or two freebies of each item on every order. Also, pay attention to GroupOn - I got a $60 voucher for $15 at VistaPrint!!! Ok that's enough advertising for VistaPrint lol. Here's what I have included in each bag:-Harriton Tote Bag...($4.66/each shirtsinbulk.com, free shipping, 5% off coupon code on retailmenot.com)
-2 Tshirts...($4.74/each on VistaPrint)
-Labels tied to Tshirts....($2.99/24 labels)
-2 Bottles of Water....($0.17 each, $4/case of 24)
-Wedding Survival Kit....($3.87/bag - breakdown below)
-First Aid Kit...($0.22/each with coupons at Walmart, labels FREE at VistaPrint))
-Notepad & Pen Set....(VistaPrint - got free pen & notepad on each order)
-Flip Flop Luggage Tag...($2.08/each - $24.99/12pack at Target.com)
-Crossword Book...($0.97/each at Walmart)
-Magnet...(FREE at VistaPrint - only paid shipping)
-Flip Flop Keychain, comes in multiple colors...($0.28/each - $3.39/12pack on eBay)
-Business Card Bag Tag, under keychain...(FREE at VistaPrint, only paid shipping)
-Welcome Letter...(FREE at VistaPrint - only paid shipping)
-Postcard w/ picture info....(FREE at VistaPrint - only paid shipping)
Without including the shipping costs at VistaPrint, each bag ends up being just over $21. I'm only making 11 OOT bags, as I'm having a small guest list, so I was definitely happy with that!
Here's some individuals of what I have included!
First is the bag (probably going to use tissue paper to fill it in):
Here's the Tshirts:
Next, is my Wedding Survival Kit (template for the topper is at the bottom of this post!!):

-WetOnes wipes....(10pack for $1.00 at BigLots)
-Chapstick....(2pack for $0.88 at Walmart)

*****Total Cost of Survival Kit: $3.87/bag*****
Next is the luggage tag, keychain, first aid kit:
*Important info for getting the First Aid Kits so cheap!! They are $0.97/each at Walmart, but with coupons, you can get them for $0.22/each! Total thanks to asiamarie1 for giving me this awesome info. Here's what you need to do to get the price: Go to the jnjredcross.com site. Then click on special offers. It will take you to the page that shows to coupons. Print the one for 1.50 of 2 johnson and johnson products. The picture doesn't show the first aid kits but you can use the coupon on them. Remember that it will only allow you to print the coupon 2x per computer. So i just had friends and family print me coupons so I could buy enough.
Some of my VistaPrint Goodies:
I'm so excited they are finally done. I have the paper for the welcome letter, that we haven't actually printed yet. Haven't decided exactly what we're putting on it yet, but we have a little time to figure that out. I want to share the template for the survival kit topper for those of you that may want it as well!!

Joanne where did you find the face cloths? I love them and think it is such a great idea.
-
where did you get the 20 oz mugs

My girls also want to wear their dresses and like you we are only having appetizers...that's why we are going to be calling it a Welcome Back cocktail reception and typically most people will know what to wear and what not or at least we hope so!!! I am also trying to figure out what we are and arent going to be doing....so if anyone else has suggestions please feel free to let us know.....
I love the idea of thinking of it as more of a party!! Question for you ladies thou: at our DW we are nothing really having a reception (with the first dances and what not - we are having the ceremony, dinner and then the younger crowd is heading to the disco), so I am completely lost on how our AHR should work...any ideas???I want to incoportate the first dances, a cutting of the cake (at the in-laws request), and a few speeches, but we are not having a sit down dinner, just appetizers......If anyone can suggest how to make this work I would be SO thankful!! O and the girls want to wear the dresses again so I am unsure if I should make the event a dressy or casual dress code......
-
OMG you look amazing and the pictures came out wonderful! I can't wait to see and read more!!
-
There are definitely so many options out there on what you can do. I am glad that we have decided to have a Welcome Back Cocktail Reception! Some of my friends and family were feeling stressed about not being able to be there, and our decision has given them some relief. I guess I didn't realize any one was stressing about not being there, when I clearly stated it's ok!!

I can't wait to see your glasses but I have no doubt they will be as awesome as everything else you have done!! Thanks again for everything....your thread has been an inspiration...
