Show off your shoes....
BusyBee123 replied to twinkletoes's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Everyone has such fabulous heels! I love them! Being tall (5"10) I was planning on wearing a flat sparkly sandal! I actually bought a pair of shimmery sandals with a starfish on the front, but my mother was completely appalled that I wanted to wear that for my wedding!! I want to wear something comfortable, and don't want to have to worry about my dress length changing from a heel to a flat! Is anyone else having this problem??? I'm tempted to just wear my sandals anyways.....lol! -
I'm not supposed to be getting a gift, as we agreed not to exchange gifts, but I think I'm going to get my FI something anyways! He works in television, and has been dying to get a GoPro, which is this super tiny HD video camera that's uber durable and can be used to shoot underwater stills and video. I figure it will be perfect to use while we're away for some underwater shots, and I know he'll get a lot of use out of it when we get home! I know its not the standard gift, and its not engraved and whatnot, but I know it will totally make his day!

We're doing a 3pm ceremony as well! It should be about a half hour, then we're having a champagne toast with steel drums! We're hoping to take photos from 4pm until just before 6pm (sunset is just before 6pm). Then our dinner is at 6pm, followed by our reception which is in a separate spot of the resort from 8pm onwards! Here's hoping everything works out!

Your invites look fabulous! After all that hard work, you should feel great about them! Just send out an email to those who will look at the site...only about half our guests have bothered to really read through the info on there! Or you could always send out a magnet or postcard (free from Vistaprint!) closer to the date!

Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
BusyBee123 replied to kerrij's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Wow Tris...that picture is STUNNING!!! I had ruled out getting horses for our TTD as we're going to Dunn's River Falls, but now I'm reconsidering! Did you have to go far to rent the horses for those photos? And you would never have guessed that you were sick! You look beautiful! I'm so glad to hear all of the positive reviews! Its so reassuring and makes me more and more excited for my big day! I was really concerned that the minister might say something awkward, or too religious for what we are looking for, but now I can't wait to meet him! Maybe we'll leave him some improvisation room for our ceremony! One question, I know you were super on the ball with decor! How long did you spend with Chandlyn/Donnalee when you met with them? I've heard that the meeting is short, and I'm just scared that I won't have enough time to explain where some of the decor should go and what I want it to look like! It can totally make or break your whole look, so I just want to make sure that if I'm lugging it all the way to Jamaica, that it gets used! Maybe I should start drawing out some diagrams too! Congrats again Tris and thanks so much for sharing your experience with us! Can't wait to see more photos! -

Thanks for sharing your menu! Glad to hear people liked it! We're doing the same menu, but were debating between the penne napolina, the spinach ravioli and the squash soup for the second course! I LOVE squash soup, but my FI is convinced its not "italian" enough! lol! -

OOT Bags Done! (Picture Heavy)

They look great! I love that you topped them off with a big bow! Completes the look! -
I sent my STD's about 10 months in advance, with our website on them and our TA's contact information. By now, everyone has already put down their deposit for our destination wedding. I'm thinking of sending out our formal invites in the next few weeks (wedding Jan 2012), but was wondering about the importance of RSVPs? Seeing as they've paid their deposit, I assume that they're coming...and a few have RSVPd on our website. I was thinking of using the RSVP section of our invites as a schedule of events to list the welcome dinner, excursion, ceremony times, etc. Do you think I should still include an RSVP for formality or is it just a waste seeing as they've already made their commitment via a deposit?

I've been to Jamaica 4 times previous...once in Nov...once in Jan...once in April...and once end of May! I have to say that from my experience, Nov - early April was beautiful! All warm days and never had to layer at all! Was able to go to the beach every single day and wear tanks/summer dresses all the time! Occasionally threw on a pashmina at night, but that was it! And there were definitely a few instances when we were seeking shade or AC!! When I went in May it was WAY too hot for us...we didn't want to do excursions or move! It was just too hot! This speaking as a Canadian who is not used to such intense heat!!! That's why we went with January as well! Our guests also weren't keen on travelling in the spring/summer when the weather starts to pick up here!! So I would 100% vote for the November - March/early April time frame! You can't go too far wrong!

Delivery of OOT Bags?
BusyBee123 replied to starchild's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
I don't think it would be tacky, but as you are usually only allowed one piece of carry-on luggage, it may be an added item that your guests aren't expecting! You just wouldn't want your guests to be stressed out and trying to pack them into their luggage in the middle of the airport! -

Haha...good to know! I won't bother asking them for it and will just work on writing my own! Thanks Steph! -
Hey Tamandrob! I'm from Ottawa as well and am getting married at the Gran Bahia Jamaica in January 2012. We were able to get fabulous rate both out of Ottawa and Toronto for our guests! They're still raving about how affordable it was! We're in the $1300s from Toronto and $1400 from Ottawa all taxes in, and those are during high season! There are great deals out there, you just need to keep working to find a great TA! Good luck!

I know the feeling....feels like January is a lifetime away and I've already run out of stuff to do! With OOT bags and favours done, excursion booked, flowers booked, guests and photogs booked, dress in the closet, spa booked, invites out...there's not much left to do! Guys outfits, BM dresses and finishing up the vows, then that's its! Its amazing how quickly it all comes together in the end! I think I should just take the time to relax, but I'm always looking for more to do! If only I was less type A! I went online and downloaded a template for that size mug, added the picture, then the text. I printed them myself on my printer - but beware, what I did goes through a LOT of ink! Then I cut them out and used the template that is in the mug to compare sizes. I had to cut a little bit extra off, but wasn't a huge deal. All in all, was REALLY quick and easy for a DIY!

Picking you resort is by FAR the hardest part of planning and destination wedding! Once that's done, its like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders! I'm sure wherever you pick will be fabulous! I don't think you can go too far wrong! Having been to Jamaica 4 times already, I would highly recommend it! Its usually more expensive than DR, but I think its worth it! There's such an interesting rasta culture which is really fun, plus all the bob marley stuff. Also everyone is English speaking, so you don't have to worry about the spanish component or translating your wedding certificate. Plus Dunn's River Falls makes a great TTD location! I can't say too much about DR...I was there once, and had an awful experience at a 5 star where we all got food poisoning and the resort security pulled a gun on a friend's head and asked for money. That being said, it was only ONE experience, and I'm sure others have had positive experience. I would not base your decision on one person's individual experience. Do some research and you will find the best option for you! Good luck!

Weight Loss/Fitness Support for 2012 Brides!
BusyBee123 replied to perry1217's topic in Beauty, Exercise, Diet
So I figure its about time to jump on this bandwagon! I'm getting married in January 2012 and want to drop 20-25lbs before the big day! I'm already down about 8lbs, but I'm starting to slowly plateau already. I've been pretty good about increasing my protein, fruit and veg intake and decreasing my carb intake. The problem is that I often work 60-80hr weeks, which makes getting to the gym next to impossible. I'm only getting there about 2 days per week now! I'm hoping that sharing successes with you girls will be a motivator for me! Good luck everyone! -

Well I guess the short one wins, 3-0! Maybe I should just go with my first instinct and order the short ones.... -
Silly question about Trash the Dress
BusyBee123 replied to redginger's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
Wow, great tip! I would NEVER have even thought to put it in the washing machine! Although I guess at that point, there isn't really too much damage left to do!
