La Barcaza Wedding Reception?
hatfiehm replied to FormosaDeb's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Hi ladies, You will find all of the pricing listed on the website:http://weddingboatpuntacana.com/en/weddingsreceptions-menu-budgets-puntacana-5.htm The boat holds 100 people. You need a minimum of 20 people to reserve it for a private reception. I was also told by Flori that we could bring other alcohol with us. I will probably buy some bottles at duty free (vodka) and get some wine in DR. I wouldn't bring candles, as they will blow out, but I am thinking of bringing some battery operated tealights and just placing the bouquets on the table. I also found these foldable bouqet vases that I might order and then weight them down with some sand? I cant seem to find the link for them right now, but they are basically a base you can pop the bouquets into. i am also considering paper lanterns to string up along the edge of the boat. But not sure about that yet. We are getting married at 3pm at Paradisus Punta cana, and then our cruise is at 5:30pm. I plan to book the extra hour, but I am leaving that until the day since I want to ensure all of my guests are enjoying themselves! -
I love those mini lanterns hanging on the chairs! Has anyone seen this small size anywhere local? I am going to hunt some down in china town in Toronto, will let you know what I find!

actually I just had a closer look at the pic. The ribbons are navy right? I would paint the shepherd hooks white Good call. I forget that your accent colours are navy and green with white.

Tori those shell pomanders are awesome!! did you make them or buy them? I am tossing around the idea of DIY-ing a shell/crystal/real touch bouquet. If you posted a DIY on this one can you let me know so I can search it out? ps I would leave the hooks black, I like the contrast of black against the sand and your white chairs and the white shells. very chic IMO.

What are you girls getting your parents? in addition to making them the OOT bags with a little something special ( I made some custom MOB, MOG, FOB, FOG tshirts, bags for the moms and hats for the dads) I was thinking about having custom hankies made with a message embroidered on them. I saw a few vendors on Etsy that have these. Has anyone else done these? I am not sure if they are sappy (too much) or sweet. Is it wrong for me to assume that our parents might cry at our weddings? LOL. Maybe I should just get them as a keepsake for the moms. Any other good ideas that you have found locally?

I have an account on pinterest and have been using it for wedding inspiration too! I can see your link when I click above. I followed you! :0)

What about money clips?

Hey there! Yes I just chose the background that I liked and with a little trial and error I got the placement of each of the text lines to work. Just ignore their titles and use the text boxes. You could also wait until you get a free upload code and use your own design. But I'm not that design savvy so I used the template.

I think I might just need to figure out the per item cost. As I was roaming around dollarama at lunch stewing about whether I should have just sucked it up and paid the shipping, I started thinking about the number of items I was ordering, ie. 12 lanterns for 14 bucks is pretty cheap considering I paid 10 dollars for 3 at walmart.... Maybe I should order everything at once, so I only have to pay the shipping once... ps. today at dollarama I got the CUTEST stone and glass beads. I had been thinking about making barefoot jewellery for my bridesmaids and I, but thought I had nixed it from the list. It seemed like really fussy work and I have already bought A LOT of things for my girls. But.... then I saw the beads and I couldn't resist. (you know the drill! can't say no!) Going to take them with me up to MIL's cottage this weekend and maybe my 11 year old neice and her friend can help me with the beading. Will post pics of how it goes!

Also, a comment about the posts and people asking for templates. I completely agree, that those who do not participate and just come to pilfer free templates are a little frustrating. I myself am not very good at using publisher or other design programs so it would literally take me HOURS if I tried to design a welcome brochure for example. I can not WAIT to get to 150 posts, but I avoid wasteful posts as well...because now I feel like I truly am participating and truthfully I cant wait to check BDW to see if I have any messages or if my favorite threads have been updated. Also, I am curious to know what your fav threads are? Some of the ones I find myself in the most are: -this one (lol) - Canadian girls OOT thread -Post your ETSY finds thread -post your shoes -post your bouquet/bouquet inspiration -the ENTIRE DIY forum

Also, at dollarama I found these paper lantern Garlands for $2 each. they are 10 feet long, and came in blue/green (which work perfect for me) and orange/pink. I only bought 2 at first because i was afraid they would look bad when I opened them. However I opened them today and they are quite nicely put together! I think I will go grab a few more to decorate the boat with for our reception! I have already bought 6 white round lanterns (martha stewart, from walmart) but i think I will get a few more white ones and that will be it. Now to figure out how to make those little light thingamabobbers with the batteries. Here is a pic:

Hey amjohnson, Yes, I used vistaprint business cards for the luggage tags. I had to cut off a little sliver off the edge to make them fit into my plastic tag holders (which I got at walmart btw 10 for 1.99) I also struggled with what to put on the back, I decided just to make them the same on both sides, rather than have a decoration or monogram on one side. You could order another box of cards in a different design and then glue them together, but I just didnt want to waste so many cards, and plus I thought that way the address is on both sides and visible from whichever direction! Also I used white 3mm ribbon, which I got in a discount bin a while back at fabricland. In the end I'm happy with them, and the whole project cost about $13.00 for 40 - I may make more later depending on numbers, but I will need to buy some more plastic holders

oops I forgot to mention in the beginning of that post, I was ordering from Oriental Trading. I got all fired up and didnt read my post before submitting!

Hey Ladies, I got all excited and was going to order white lanterns, starfish charms, starfish, peacock feathers, some wrist coils and some luggage tags... my order came to $46, then with shipping and tax was about $56.00. however THEN it took me to some duty free shipping site that charged me an additional $25.24 for shipping. Any ideas about this apparent double shipping cost? Does not seem worth it to me to pay $80 for my $45 order..... Did you all notice this? I am wondering if I should wait and just order everything I need from OT at once... because thats a pretty hefty shipping charge. Isnt it?

Tori: The Henkaa dresses are 129-149 I think? depending on the sixe and length you choose. I originally wanted the 2birds dresses, but they are over $300 each!! I went with the Henkaa ones because they are local here in toronto and we could go and try them on at the studio, and I fell in love with the drape of the material. Its almost a mettallic jersey, hard to explain but it feels like butter when your are wearing it I know there are tonnes of Etsy sellers that make them as well if you are looking for a lower price point! Just not sure which materials they use. Also, thanks for the tip about the scented candle holders at Homesense, I might check that out! I am going to design some luminaries to go over battery operated tealights so I will post when I have done those. I have a looooong list. Today I am working on completing luggage tags!

that dress is gorgeous! I am also thinking about a reception dress....but lately I have been thinking about getting a tea length wedding dress and go for a more retro or vintage look... so maybe I wont need a dress to change into.

Post Groom and GM attire
hatfiehm replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Thanks ladies for the heads up on the old navy linen pants. I just scrambled and got all of the groomsmens sizes so that I could order while they are still 15.99 a pair. Even got the FI an extra pair in a smaller size since we're both trying to size down before April! There are still lots of sizes in beige (flax) and in black. Now we just have to find the shirts!! Doesn't it feel good to Ross these things off the list?? I'm sooo type A. Lol -
Tori, you are so active on here and I love it! I am also doing real touch DIY bouquets so maybe we can share tips. One question about your centerpeices, are you worried about the wind pulling over the tall grasses? I have heard the wind can be an issue and to avoid real candles. Although if your reception area is covered maybe its a non issue! just something to ponder! Holly

Hey Ladies! just discovered this thread!! Great idea for a place for random canadian chatter and advice I'm in Toronto and getting married April 20th 2012 at Paradisus Punta Cana For the reception we went with La Barcaza (the wedding boat) Holly Hey Coco Yul! We had the same issue, its tricky. I found that if you get advice from your TA on what weeks are generally more affordable and are flexible with your date then you should wait for the TA. However we ended up having to switch resorts because 1 year in advance the resort we were originally planning to select was booked every day with weddings!! I couldnt beleive it. Since then I am pleased with the new resort (PPC), but it was tough as you need to book both simultaneously almost!! good luck! Holly

congratulations!! enjoy the planning process

cant help on the location as I am doing Punta Cana, DR. I found choosing a resort was the hardest and most stressful part of the experience so far. Good luck and happy planning!
