  1. Here is what I understand to be the case... For every individual you bring on to the resort for the day (i.e., anyone not staying with you at the resort)...it costs $1000 pesos (currently $81.79 CDN). They are then provided with a wristband which allows them access to the basic food, drinks and amenities of the resort. The resort only provide a limited number of day passes. This was really important for us to know. I have a co-worker and her husband who will be staying in Akumal the same week we are getting married. If we brought them in for the wedding...it would cost us $81.79 X 2 for entrance + 2 beach reception meals at $58.48 per person. So to bring them in and have them at the reception would cost us $280+ CDN. Needless to say, we decided not to invite them. As for the outside photographer...we will need to pay $81.79 CDN to bring her into the resort plus the same for her assistant (plus reception meals and, in our case, a hotel room as we're doing TTD the next morning). The new contract I received from the GS indicates a "$300 USD penalty if you bring an external photographer". I can only assume that this is in addition to all of the other costs to bring them on to the resort, feed them, etc. I have a few questions for the recent brides: 1) we don't want anyone to have to wear wristbands the day of the wedding...not a great look in the pics I think...is the resort good about replacing them the next morning...or is it even an issue? 2) does anyone have a pic they would be willing to post of their wedding cake? 3) how well does the resort/WP handle requests to upgrade flowers, centerpieces, etc? 4) I'm curious about the live music too. Did anyone have mariachi with their champagne and appies?
  2. Hi there! The one question I still haven't found the answer to is: When you book the platinum or presidential wedding package thru GS, does that include the reception in the palapa...or is it an additional charge of 11050 pesos to have your reception there? The recent information package I have obtained from GS indicates the following: "Photo Caribbean is inside the resort. They have the exclusivity. Penalty fee apply if you bring an external photographer ($300 usd)." I'm hoping by the time our wedding happens that enough couples will complain about how ridiculous that charge is, they'll have no choice but to drop it. Regardless, I would pay the penalty to bring someone in. I would be so disappointed to have only a handful of decent photos from my wedding.
  3. Thanks for your feedback ladies! I haven't seen anything from the recent brides about a chest xray...only bloodwork. Some of the documents I've read said both would need to be done. I'm guessing that's not the case anymore?
  4. I wondered the same thing after reading the comments from the last two brides and the resort photogs. What did your off-site photogs think about working alongside the resort photogs? Did they get in each others' way? Is there any point in having them there if you are bringing your own photog in? I hope the GS management is reading the comments about the front desk staff...I have heard about the rudeness from friends who were there for two weeks in Feb...and have now read a number of comments indicating similar issues. Recent brides...I'm wondering how flexible are they at the GS with their wedding packages. If there is something included in your package that you don't want...will they upgrade something else for you?
  5. Hi there beautiful brides! Hoping I can join this forum...would love to see any/all of the pics available for GS...professional pics and powerpoints(?) from GS re: flowers and whatnot. We were at GS last year...went to Dreams Tulum last month...weighing out both as options for a destination wedding early 2012. Excited to see progress with all of your plans...can't wait to be in the same boat : ) Thanks! [email protected]
