MJKH replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Gee, I'm wishing I would have asked this a couple of months ago, as you guys are such a knowledgeable and helpful bunch! Does anyone know anything about this dress? Who makes it, what it's called, if it's still available??? -

This is my reception party dress...I'm getting it in turquoise...I love it! : ) -
I saw a giant bag of starfish sitting on the shelf at Homesense one day...by the time I went around the store and decided to go back and look at it again, it was gone : (

You're telling me!!! I started at the $1 bin, shuffled some spools around...didn't see anything. Asked the clerk...she pointed me into the ribbon aisle which I knew likely wasn't right. So I went back to the $1 bin and EUREKA! I found one spool like yours, then I would have been at it for a few minutes before I found a cream ribbon in that series that said "Perfect Pair"...they had a few of those. The one I loved, which I could only find one of, was the chocolate brown ribbon with the sparkly pink "We tied the knot!" printing. Yes, anyone going to look for this ribbon, take note of the yellow cardboard spool...that will help you with your digging. Also, if anyone is still looking for toys for kids, Michaels continues to reduce their summer/pool toys. The splash catchers were .90 and the 3-D bubble set (when you wear the glasses, 3D hearts magically appear on the bubbles you blow) were less than $3 and the little activity books were .45 and .90.

omg amj...just when I thought I could have a quiet night in with my pjs on...I think I have to get dressed and drive over to Michaels...I would love to find some of that cute ribbon with pink writing!

Show us your wedding dress!
MJKH replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Oh, and another question...when you put your hair up and to the side with a flower...and your dress is one-shouldered, does the updo/flower go on the opposite side to the strap? -
Show us your wedding dress!
MJKH replied to Jennifer's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Hey ladies, I need some help. After trying on around 40-50 dresses in my hometown and down in the states, I kept coming back to one of the first dresses I tried here at home. It's actually a Bill Levkoff bridesmaid dress that's $210 dollars (that obviously I would order in white)! I feel great in this dress...it's easy, breezy...totally me. I have some beautiful blingy earrings I'll wear, and my hair will be up just with an orchid tucked in. My cousin suggested I order it in an extra long length and basically have them cut a train into it so that it looks even more "bridal". Thoughts? -
I just realized that the clamp base of the umbrellas from London Drugs twists off, leaving just a handle. They might make for some fun photo opps...

Difficult Family - still 16months to go!
MJKH replied to Sunshine2680's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Totally agree! What we did do, however, was rather than having a wedding website, I created a "private group" on FB for only family and friends invited to the wedding...and early on in the process posted booking details, information about the area we're travelling to, possible excursions, etc. That seemed to work well and because I'm on FB daily, it was easy to maintain. I also didn't feel pressured to fill in information about how we met, our honeymoon plans, who our attendants are, etc. But that's what worked for us...we're just more private that way. -
My mom went to London Drugs and found these on sale for the beachy-themed bbq that they will be hosting for family and friends the night before our AHR: Patio lights - different styles - regular retail between 15.99 and 19.99 - now 50% off. These umbrellas we'll be getting creative with...they open up just like a regular umbrella, but they have an adjustable clamp base. Maybe along the deck rail...??? You could probably just cut or break the clamp off...they were $2.99 each on sale and came in turquoise, yellow and red. Finally, at the suggestion of a bride a little bit ago, I went back to Superstore to pick up these fabric-covered CD/DVD cases that we'll give to our parents with a copy of our wedding DVD with a photo in the cover. They are now on sale for $1.44 and also came in a royal blue colour at some point.

You guys crack me up...I was dying to know if there was a word "souced" so I looked it up. No souced, but "SOUSED" does mean to make or become drunk. So I guess you could use sauced or soused. I think I will use sauced...

Re: couponing...thanks Tori...it was a pretty successful weekend. The fact of the matter is though that I couldn't/wouldn't be doing it if I didn't have my mom and sister "mentoring" me...passing coupons along...linking coupons with in-store specials, etc. I just don't have the time to research like they do. They've even tipped me off to the "girl" I need to look for at London Drugs when I check out...it's quite the process! Tori, did you ever answer the question a while back about what you're doing with the Michael's sewing kits? Are you taking the plastic off and closing them, or putting them in the bags "as is"?

My OOT Bags so far! *Pics included*
MJKH replied to luvmoo's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Wow...yours are really coming together nicely! It was hard to pack everything up and take it to the basement : ( And hey...you're getting married on my birthday! -
I like the idea of posting more Vistaprint stuff...I have a TON of things coming...but would love more inspiration as well! I guess it does make sense to start another thread maybe? Although I'm fine too with having it in here. Luvmoo...I'm about to look for your new thread!

My OOT/Welcome Reception Cups
MJKH replied to passionsarcasm's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
Those cups are so cute, and I agree...I wouldn't worry at all about that bar code! -
Oh gee, I totally forgot about this break-thru as well. I have been looking for CLEAR plastic scoops, tongs and pinchers to use at our AHR for the candy bar. The clear scoops have eluded me for MONTHS...I have looked at dollar stores, department stores, kitchen wholesale stores, at home and during my trips to the states. I walked into Peppers (I think they're all over Canada) and found them...four sizes with the largest being $2.99. I nearly kissed the girl behind the till...she said "yeah, I've heard they're hard to find".
-
Apparently many of the Dollaramas out east have been accepting coupons for a while...the exception is the coupons that you print off online...I don't think they take those. Although I did read a story of a woman who used the $3 online coupon for Polysporin to Go, and used them at Dollarama for the $2 item, and they allowed her to apply the overage (difference of $1 in her favour) to the rest of her purchase. OMG...that would be sweet.

So, I had a pretty successful day of shopping...did great with coupons and found a few other wedding-related items I thought I would share. Not planning on luggage tags, but found these cute bright initial tags at Homesense for $2.99 for a couple of key players in the wedding: Found these super-size bulletin boards at Homesense ($39.99)...they've just come out in the last 24 hours (it's kinda scary that I know that!). Plan to use them at the ATR for posting table seating arrangements or displaying some of our favourite photos. I've propped them up against the door so you can see how large they are. Not sure which colour I'm keeping yet: Couponing...so much fun! Free box of granola bars (coupon was on the back of a cereal box), free box of dishwasher tabs (mail-in rebate) and here's the story with the Aveeno. London Drugs had the body wash on sale this weekend for $5.99. In their larger "savings flyer", they had an offer of, "buy an aveeno product, get a free lip therapy product". London Drugs has a highly competitive coupon policy, and is one of the few places in Canada that allows you to "stack" coupons (meaning, if you have three different coupons with three different UPC codes, they will accept them all)! So, I had three DIFFERENT coupons where when you buy 2 aveeno items, you save $3. Which means, I buy 2 aveeno products (2 X 5.99 = 11.98) and they accepted $9 (3 coupons X $3 off) worth of coupons for those two items. So, long story short, for $1.49 I got one bottle of Aveeno body wash AND a free lip balm. They were all out of balms, so they gave me a raincheck. I had enough coupons to buy 16 bottles of body wash and get 16 balms for free. Now, my next mission is to get the Dollaramas on board here with couponing...they told me that they will be accepting them soon, but couldn't tell me when. I have 8 coupons for $1 off Hawaiian Tropic products, which means I could be getting those bottles of HT sunscreen they've had for quite some time for $1!

Show off your shoes....
MJKH replied to twinkletoes's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
Hey Shahlo...is your wedding date Jan/12? I only ask because in your profile it says 2011. We're getting married a couple of weeks later there! Shoe wise, my vote is for #2! They're WHITE white, whereas the ones on top are a little warmer...right? The only other thing to consider is that they say a shoe without an ankle strap makes your legs appear longer and leaner. But I love the ones with the straps! -
I haven't done any searching yet, but I thought it would also be fun to attach a laminated card with things to do/games to play with a deck. We don't pull our cards out very often, so if someone put a deck of cards in front of me, I would need help remembering some games! Anyone seen anything like that either?

I designed one with our monogram using the premium business cards from Vistaprint...I may trim them and/or punch a slit on either end and pull a ribbon thru...or just punch a hole in one corner and tie them with ribbon. I'll have way more than I need, but for the price, I thought it was worth it. I don't have them yet, otherwise I'd attach a pic.
