Post Groom and GM attire
MJKH replied to TammyWright's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I love the combo...it will look really sharp! -
Tori, I just got off the phone with Raymie Lynch from packageit.net and she was lovely to talk to and is super happy to work with brides...even Canadian ones! I ordered $130 worth of sinamay packaging and flat pack trays and she said at the most the shipping would be $17. This is some of the stuff: We will be using the sinamay envelopes at the ceremony to hold the sandlewood fans and programs. I'm thinking I may use these little baggies in the welcome bags or at the reception. These bags are clearing out in all kinds of beautiful colours...I ordered them in fuschia. These boxes ship flat and I thought we could use them for items at the reception.

Tori, I just realized that I didn't get back to you about the company I'm trying to order the sinamay envelopes and bags from. They're in Washington state and have quoted just under $12 for shipping of 40 sinamay rectangular envelopes to Canada (plus whatever unexpected border/customs expenses pop up in transit!). I've picked a few other things out and will hopefully be completing the order with them this morning (they need to call back with the final tally and to get my cc info). http://www.packageit.net/

Oh my...I forgot to ask this too...like HOW CUTE ARE THESE?!? They're from a company called Mar Y Sol...has anyone ever bought/seen them before? http://shopmarysol.com/

Difficult Family - still 16months to go!
MJKH replied to Sunshine2680's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Yaaaay Sunshine...that's good to hear! ; ) I would be surprised if there is anyone having a DW that DOESN'T have something crappy behind the scenes going on...you are sooooo not alone. -
So, I can hardly stand the wait! This weekend my parents will be meeting up with my brother and sil...the ones that have been picking up my packages across the border. By this time next week I'll have my bamboo pashminas from FashionUnic, all of the little toiletries from Minimus, my shipments from Target...yaaay! I am so tempted to start buying the ziplocs and ripping open packages to put my welcome kits together, but I have to stay focused on our upcoming holiday. Oh, and we had a big hailstorm here Monday night...lots of damage...my back windshield completely shattered and the car is pitted front, back, top, sides...sounds like it will be written off...our skylight was broken...yeah, I have lots of other things I should be doing ; )

Anyone...anyone...?!? Actually, I just got a response back from Monica Perez at Amols.com about colours of maracas. She indicated that they had colours "magenta" and "light blue" which may go with our colour scheme of fuschia/turquoise (I had sent her some inspiration pics). She asked for my address and told me she would send me a sample of each! I was quite tickled by that offer. It may only be a mini version or something, but at least I get to see them before ordering a bunch. That's what I call customer service!

@luvmoo...WOW...congratulations and way to go!!! *fist pump* I'm with you girls...20 - 25 to go by the end of the year (my final dress fitting)! I can just feel the pounds shedding all over this thread ; )
-
I would love to hear updates/see photos from any of the Canadian brides that ordered traditional maracas from Amols.com. How were they with your requests to "customize" your order to a specific colour or colour scheme?

This is really cute...I wish our resort used these wooden chairs...I much prefer them to the white plastic ones that they cover with a white fabric cover : (

Nice! It should be a cinch to do in iPhoto...I just can't figure out how!!!!

Our final payments are due Dec 1st for a package leaving Jan 29th. We were impressed how much our TA managed to wiggle things when she called the right person (the tour operator). I would lay it on thick with the TA and tell her to do the very best she can with the tour company to keep everyone on board. That would be in her best interests as well...more sales!

day of the dead cake toppers
MJKH replied to katrina's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Hmmm...this is an old thread, but I'll post this here in hopes of getting a response from someone. My FI has his heart set on a day of the dead cake topper. We are, however, getting married in February of next year. Is there anyone who knows enough about this Mexican celebration to tell me, is it okay to use those images outside of the actual holiday? I would just hate to find out after the fact that for the Mexican people, it was a big NO-NO. But I guess my FI is right in the fact that they certainly sell these images all year long there...HELP! -
My vote would be for one with a skinny bottom, with or without a handle...for long term use, I would prefer one that fits in my car holder. I think 20 oz worth of a beverage at a time is plenty. Your guests will all love them!
-
I'm taking Tori's approach too (if I understand her correctly)...our guests won't even see a hint of turquoise until the reception. Until then, we'll just be using shades of pink.

I am going crazy trying to figure out how to create an inspiration board/collage on my iMac using photos from iPhoto...anyone know if that's possible?

One of the recent brides at our resort said fake petals were not allowed on the beach...she used real rose petals, and by the time she walked down the aisle, they had all blown away : ( It's cute when they run the large starfish upright along each side of the aisle. Have you seen that? I've seen palm leaves jabbed into the sand...tiki torches...we should start a thread for that if one hasn't been started already!
-
ohhhh...I love the starfish on the twine...I'm wondering if you could take it apart in the middle and attach a "thank you" sign to hold up for photos...
-
Oh, I know Tori...sorry for clogging up the thread with my pics! I'm not ready for a planning thread of my own I think...but I so appreciate all the feedback. Thefuturemrsgunn (I think that's how you spell it) also has me worried that my stuff isn't as coordinated as it could/should be. But never you mind...you who's sewing your own convertable dresses...I am not surprised...you're keeping up with the best of them! Anyway, it was good to see you back...we were missing you ; ) So, I had a chat with the florist across the street and she put my mind at ease about using the glasses from Pier 1. Also, I did take a look at Michaels for those coloured vases, and they would totally work too AMJ. Against my better judgement, I popped in to Dollarama over my lunch hour, and found turquoise glass tealights (pack of 3 for $1...they also had green, orange and purple) that will totally match...and at Michaels I found some turquoise fabric baggies that we will use on the tables as well. Which means I think we might do all the maracas in pink? Ohhhh, and the best was at Dollarama they had just put out packs of jolly ranchers candy...I bought a box of packages of the passion fruit and a box of packages of tropical fruit...2/$1 with 20 in a box (for the welcome bags). They were also putting out small bottles of Franks Hot Sauce...it looked like they were $1.25 or $1.50. AMJ, they had a whole bunch of new ribbon and trims out at the store I was at. They had a metallic braid in your colours that was cute...I'm sure it's the same colours as your sparkly branches. They also had silver and a gunmetal colour, which is a really difficult thing to find. Thanks also girls for the suggestions about reception goodies for the men. I think what we've decided to do is put out a big basket of Mexican candy and snacks (spicy peanuts, etc), which we'll purchase in Tulum (pueblo) or Playa. That way, everyone will have a chance to try some treats that aren't available at home.

I've got one of the glasses from Pier 1 packed in my work bag today to run past a florist and make sure it's not too small to do an arrangement for a round table of 6-8...I'm just a bit worried. I was thinking, the other options might be to go with clear glass and look for turquoise glass beads to put in the bottom, or to tint the water that the flowers are in a turquoise colour.

For me that's a bit of a tough one...in Mexico, it's so friggin' hot during the day that the ice melts quickly, diluting your drink...and I like my drinks cold and frosty! On the flipside, it's something else to haul around and keep track of...we didn't take any type of insulated container either trip to Mexico. I just asked my FI if he would ever consider taking something and he said no. But, we're the type to get up early, have breakfast and leave the resort to do an excursion for a good part of the day. Maybe if you tend to hang around the resort and drink most of the day, it would be more useful. The other thing I enjoy is being able to try something different every time you spin around on the resort. Coffee drinks, blended drinks, beer...it's just a great time to experiment! I don't like to be wasteful, but if I don't finish a drink because it's past its' prime or I don't really care for it, that's ok.
-
Oh my...I didn't even think to look at Michaels today for the glassware...I made FI help me dig thru the ribbon bin looking for that printed ribbon...he lasted all of 30 seconds doing that! We are going to take those vases from Pier One with us...we will only have about 36 guests, and with 6 or so to a table, we will have enough room in a carryon to take them.

Post pics of your Wedding Cake!
MJKH replied to EricaG's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Here's what we're aiming for...it will be done in buttercream...and we'll bring the chocolate seashells from home and guard them from the heat as best we can. It will have our monogram at the top as well. I think it's a reasonable expectation for the resorts' baker.
