Oh gee, I must be telepathic because I was thinking about you and that dress today! I like how you alternated...I'm open to whatever...just a combo of chocolate brown and fuschia. I just appreciate you helping this IT challenged bride-to-be out!

I hunted you down tonight because I thought you MUST have your dress by now (I don't know how I've missed it!!!). It looks AMAZING...everything has come together so well! I would totally love this first aid kit template...could you do the graphics in chocolate brown and the font in fuschia pink for me?!? Thank you! : ) [email protected]

How much do we tip the wedding coordinator?
MJKH replied to Michey's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
Oh, I hear you redginger! Luckily I have a TA who is a bit of a bulldog (in the nicest way possible) and isn't afraid to get on the phone to Mexico and call about the really urgent items (like making sure we have the suite offered in our package for 2 full weeks and not a downgrade due to lack of availability). But I got a reality check very early on...with two hundred days and probably two to three hundred weddings in between booking and our wedding date, we were clearly not their priority. And honestly, although it's totally not my style (I like to have everything planned down to the last detail), our wedding has certainly evolved over the last few months...plans change...guest numbers change and affect venues...you fall in love with a reception dress that affects the colours and decor style...it's probably a good thing that I've had lots of time to work stuff out in my head and on paper before presenting my very detailed but concise folder of ideas/wishes to the wedding planner (6 weeks ahead of time and again when we arrive at the resort). I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the WP we end up working with is someone different than we have been communicating with...that seems to be the trend at most resorts...WPs burn out/get better offers/move on. In March of this year, I e-mailed the gentleman that I wanted to have play guitar for our ceremony...and in his broken English, he very politely told me to get in touch with him again in December, as a lot can happen over the course of a year. I think some of the best advice we've been given from other brides is take copies of all of your e-mails...take inspiration photos along for your hair/makeup/decor etc. in case there is a language barrier or any confusion around what you're looking for as an end result. -
Hi...first of all, your engagement photos look awesome...like a magazine spread. And I love the pic of your little girl...looks like she's got her "snap" fingers out with the attitude, "ohhh yeah, I can work this dress!" ; ) Second, I have soooo taken to your key card holders...I had some printed with Vistaprint that have the little saying something about "sauced or sober" and every time I look at them they don't sit well with me. My FI's family would totally get a kick out of them, but my parents are conservative christians and I feel it wouldn't set a good "tone" with them. I would love to get your template if you're willing to share! Everything looks awesome...great job!!!

Is this too far off from your colours though luvmoo?

Gee...both of those from Sears are great! I especially love this one as I think the girls could wear a good supportive bra and that style overall would be SUPER flattering. For a younger group of girls, I might be tempted to hem them a bit, but an excellent choice!

I just noticed that!!! I love it : ) And I sooooo think you need to do a little TTD with that number! I'd post a picture of my grad dress now if only my mother hadn't cut it up immediately and made barbie doll dresses for my younger sister out of it!

I think that's very considerate and generous, Ms. Manners...your mother should be very proud! : ) The person at the top of my list to tip is the WP at the resort. I have seen them schlep/run/dote on their brides from dawn 'til dusk and will quite happily tip $100 - $200 if she helps me achieve the wedding and reception of my dreams. I'm not sure if it was here on BDW that one Canadian bride wrote something to the effect of..."I was just planning to give her a card and a bottle of maple syrup." EEEEEEP...I'm sorry if you're still on here, but if I met your every need and desire for an entire week and made your wedding day extra special, I'd be a little disappointed in the maple syrup! -
Ok, so you are totally justified in your feelings about that dress...they should be ashamed really. Perhaps you should copy and send them some of the above comments from future brides who may have brought them some business but certainly won't be now! I didn't have a super great experience shopping for a wedding dress at David's in the states, but omg...you could have pranced 15 bridesmaids in who were 15 different sizes and they had so much stock in so many colours I'm positive all 15 of them would walk out with their dress. I would be stalking David's in Canada...sending e-mails and finding out the proposed opening date in Edmonton so you had a better idea of what they might offer and when. Like Tori, I would probably next consider a rush order from a place that sells Bill Levkoff or Barijay bridesmaid dresses...you'd probably be looking at around $250 per dress though. That's what I'm paying to rush a shorter dress that I ordered for my reception party dress (pre-alterations). Good luck and keep us posted...I could now tell you my grad dress horror story to make you feel better. This woman swore that she could make any dress from any photo...came with a long list of references. Long story short, I was at her place until 3 am the morning of my grad...then back again at 10, only for her to have to "sew" it right on to me. I had to run into the mall with my trench coat over it to pick up some corsages...then drive 30 minutes back home only to walk in the house, take the trench coat off and have my mother GASP, cut it off me, and call the bank to cancel the cheque she had sent me with to pay this woman. Never again will I do anything like that...

omg...too funny : )

Ok, so when you're back from your fabulous wedding, I have a question for you or anyone else (former brides, photogs) that might have some feedback. As I'm only wanting to have a veil for the photoshoot after the wedding...or perhaps at the TTD also...do you think I could get away with just buying like 2 or 3 yards of a very fine tulle/net? Or should it be a proper veil? I don't want to spend big bucks on one...and I'm nowhere near a David's Bridal, where everyone seems to have scored some super cheap ones!

Hi TLS! That is a great tip for any brides using peacock feathers...they can be quite expensive. My trips to Dollarama have been a bit pathetic lately...either I find absolutely nothing, or I'm there on my lunch hour and the lines are so long I walk out with nothing. I noticed Advil and Tylenol tubes the other day...lots of them. In all your crafting, have you ever used a drill to put holes into shells (to pull a ribbon thru)? Looking for some tips...think I'll do the smallest drill bit first and work my way up, but wondering about using masking tape on either side of the shell to keep it from cracking or chipping.
-
Oh, sorry...I totally meant to address the spice packets too. I would probably put them in the oot bags, use those small clear ziplocs from Dollarama (craft section) that would hold a couple of tablespoons of mix(?)...and attach them to a cute little card with a recipe on it...like maybe a vistaprint postcard? OR, if your guests are leaving the resort before you as ours are, I might be tempted to see them off with a thank you card in an envelope, the spice mixture and recipe card enclosed.

Oh, there's an easy solution to that...just have a little basket of those nylon collapsable grocery bags that guests can help themselves to at the end of the evening! ; ) One of the girls I'm sure on this thread mentioned them not that long ago...she bought hers in Canada. These are the ones I bought: http://www.efavormart.com/reusableshoppingbag-fushia.aspx I was concerned about the same thing...between the pashminas, shoes or flip-flops (whichever they don't wear back to their rooms), boxed up leftover cake, maracas...they'll have an armful of stuff to take back. The only other thing we plan to do is put out a bunch of snack items/treats from Mexico that our guests would not have seen/tried before. This will be done around 10-ish...about midway thru the dance. Sounds like you've got lots of great things in store for your guests! Jealous about the sky lanterns...they're not allowed at our resort due to the dense jungle surrounding...

I know...it's a great sale, hey? Vistaprint and I had a date night on Friday ; ) I put 4 orders in! Disappointed that the cloth bags weren't free for 1 like they have been, but discovered the free notebooks which I personalized for my nieces and nephews. When I've ordered in the past, they will only let you order one free item from that category (one set of postcards)...up to 10 different free items, then they start charging. At one point, I could only order one notepad...but now it's letting me order one notepad AND one notepad with a magnetic back (both for free) which was great! I don't know which bags I'll be using for my wedding week survival items...maybe a ziploc (but I think the medium size will be too small and I'm not wild about using the large size), maybe a clear cello bag...so every order I played around with the oversize postcards that I'll fold over the top...once I had them done so I could fold them in half lengthwise, the others widthwise like Camy's. I'll have a whole lot of extras in the end, but I want them to be just right. Does that make sense? Basically, if you want another set of postcards, you'll have to do another order. That's what I've found anyway...
-
I bought a bunch like these too...off a website I'd have to look up. I was thinking people could use them throughout the week to haul stuff back and forth to the beach...and the extras I'm going to have at the reception for people to pack up the leftover cake we plan to box up, favours, flip flops, etc. as the reception site is quite far from our rooms and we'll be going back and forth on golf carts.

Awww....YES...well said girls! Time has gone by so fast R~ since I hopped on your thread...I hope you soak up every beautiful sight, every lovely sound, every fabulous smell, every warm smile and every bit of sunshine that's out for you today! P.S. I spent about an hour lingering in the Martha Stewart section at Michaels yesterday...and I was like "OHHHHH, yes, this is what she used for that project...this for that project...this glitter...this paper...it's all spectacular!" All the best! J

It's all good : ) They had a lot here...20 cents each at the register! BUT...be sure to stand them upright and take a good look before putting them in your basket! Some had leaked/evaporated and only 3/4 (or less) of the bottle remained. Also, I heard them say at the till that they had to write off around 75 of them yesterday because the product had turned white and glue-like. Not sure what that was all about...

I just found the ad in the Staples flyer...thanks for that tip! I'm going to call today to see if they still have a bunch, or take the flyer to Wal-mart as they'll price match. The .20 colour copies are also a super good deal. We're going to try to get the inserts for our little welcome albums done in the next few days and printed there.

Oooo - Camy47...I can't wait to see what went in what kit! Sounds fab : ) I think in the next couple of weeks I'm going to start bringing everything back upstairs again to take stock of what we have and figure out what, if anything we need. It's been so fun scrounging for deals and getting ideas from you all. I can't wait to start ripping open all of the packages and putting the kits together. As of right now, the kits are coming with us to Mexico for distribution while everyone is out at the welcome supper.
