  1. I was at the PRDO on vacation last year in December for the first time. It is the best in the area supposedly and the food is really great (at the buffet) ... it was very quiet though and most of the people there are mature couples, we ran into a few issues here and there just with staff not being too friendly but we're considering it for our wedding in November 2011. They have a spa, just wondering about those brides who married there already where did you get your hair done? At the spa or had someone come from the city, and do they do a good job? I can do my own makeup, but hair is not easy for me, especially for a special occasion like this. Any tips and ideas?
  2. I had no idea so many people are doing this. Glad it's not weird because it seems to me that it avoids a lot of hassle and paper work so why not.
  3. Are you having a destination wedding? Photographers recommended men wear cargo or light jeans and white shirt for beach shots. You can try a consignment store or value village (?) I vintage hunt there often and it's amazing how many things I come across with tags that are brand new and on their sales things are just worth dollars. I've seen lovely formal wear and birdesmaid dresses, even bridal there. Just check that they are in good condition and wash as soon as you get home.
  4. LOL!!! My SO also HATES getting his hair wet. I honestly had not thought about the point you brought up!! Originally I did not want to actually "Trash" the dress, I just wanted the fun sort of us wearing the formal clothes but doing things we like to do like drinking bubble tea or frappachinos and playing chess with the giant chess board or boxing with each other using those puffy blow up toy things. Fun creative energetic "out of place" wedding photos, that's what trash the dress to me kinda is. As for actually trashing, it's usually in the water, or involving wine, or paint, or something messy. The ocean shoots are nice but I don't know if I want to get my hair wet either since it will be styled and so I should re think it. hehe. I can't see why a dress can't be washed after it has been in the ocean, I would soak it in the bathtub to get the salt out and then dry it. It is probably better to go with a simple design with a fabric that will wash easily. Wine will probably not come out
  5. Blakknu, they are so quick, aren't they?! So happy to hear that your dress is in the mail and on it's way to you. We want to see pics of you in it! I came to this forum through this thread and contemplating getting a dress made. I sketch and was looking into designing something custom or going with something poofy and simple with the material of my choosing but that I could embellish later myself.. Today through the smart bridal boutique consignment boutique I found THE dress. A Maggie Sottero discontinued style from a few years ago, just in my price range because the bride was nice to let me negotiate a price. Not my pic but the same dress and in ivory, the detail is exquisite. $575 but well worth it because I ADORE it (being super picky) http://images24.fotosik.pl/283/583e5b4d6bf857eb.jpg If anything I'll look into getting a dress made in China for trash the dress, I checked out our chinese mall (biggest chinese mall in north america) that we have here in Toronto and they're selling dresses for way more than if I got it straight from china, even though they do the same custom tailoring and have suggested it to me. Makes sense, how they make money It's all coming together.
  6. Blackkinu, I was at a bridal store yesterday and they had these belts that you can add to a plainer dress. How about if you had them remove the beading and went with a nice lacey sash with beading one, something you can find in your area? I would ask them to do the details in the picture, it is definitely a lot more feminine with the scalloped flower design opposed to the diamonds.
  7. Oh that sounds beautiful, also the vow renewal is an idea! Thank you so much. When I checked with travel sights there seems to be nothing past october, it's nuts. Before this I thought I wouldn't find a photographer but now I don't know if I'll find an actual location, yikes! There must be some glitch as even though it's a very private elopement I have to find a photographer first to let me know of the location so I can start booking or I'm looking at next year all together.
  8. I hope you find what you're looking for. I'm from Toronto Canada and it's easy to get married here, you just buy the certificate, fill it out and present legal ID documents, then you book a session with the justice of peace if you're not religious and they perform it for about $250 after you meet with them and decide how and what you want them to say. It's easier than that even in some places, each province and city is a little bit different.
  9. This is exactly my idea! I had no idea people did that. Was telling my SO earlier that this would probably save us a whole lot of hassle. So if we get married legally in our country, what do we ask for there? We're not religious so looking for a sort of justice of peace or someone to perform a ceremony that would feel like a union. Do you know if resorts will do a private elopement for two people only, without having guests and everything or do they feel it's not worth it to them if you don't bring the business of guests..etc.?
  10. I just sent her an email!!! OMG, I'd love to not have to worry about flowers at my destination and just carry this along with me, plus it will probably last forever as a keep sake! You girls are awesome, thanks for sharing. I can't wait to hear from her.
  11. If flying from Toronto to Mexico to do a small private elopement wedding, can I find flowers there for bouquet? Planning on hiring a photographer to meet with there for great shots but want fresh flowers if possible, or should I find an alternative like silk flowers? I'm clueless, sorry if this isn't the right place to post, I really am very very new to this.
  12. I live in Toronto, and am very new to this. I'm planning an elopement (meaning just groom and I) may not get the big wedding but am not compromising great photography. I don't have a date or destination in mind (sometime in October or November 2011 could work), and am willing to work around the photographer opposed to anything else. I've been to Cuba and the Dominican Republic a few times, but I'm not sure if I can find suitable photographers there to do the creative type photography I'm looking for so I thought of Mexico and contacted Elizabeth Madina (waiting to hear back) For those brides in the GTA as well, has anyone done this? Have a very small wedding with a photographer, and any tips you can offer? I was going to fly a photographer down but it makes more sense to me to find one there if they're available.
  13. What is this silk called? My first impression of them was not good at all, and very confusing. So they do have the silk available?
  14. I read through the forum because I was interested in buying a dress from coral bridal. I was really happy to come across so many other brides talking about similar websites and showing photos of their actual dresses and those from such stores abroad. Myself I can sew and have been since 12, my mother's degree is in design so she taught me. Glad to see a lot of brides that are really picky and looking well into the workman ship of the dresses, I too have tried to find realistic pictures. Coral bridal from what I've seen looks quite nice, I did read up on monica bridal though here and tried to contact them just a short while ago with regard to a question. Material to me is always an issue, since the design of my dress is a simple ball gown style (lots of fabric yes, but not much with regard to design or beading - the embellishment I choose to do myself later) I wanted to inquire about fabric. Some said here that you can ask for silk satin, or duchess satin, that is what is used in most of the designer gowns of this style and look. I contacted them via chat and asked, it was very difficult for them to understand me it seems, and also they quoted the dress at 120, but I asked them if they can give me a quote in the specific fabric (since I assumed they can get a hold of some) and even if it were to cost upwards of $500 I may consider it. After half an hour of misunderstandings the person asked their manager and came back to say that the marker is short on this type of material and it was unachievable. Has anyone purchased a dress made of this material and from where? If I had a sewing machine and a place to get the fabric at a great price I'd make it myself.
